I get disproportionately annoyed when I randomly fall in love with an obscure band that is no longer together, go hunting their music, and discover that none of it is available digitally why are you preventing me from giving you money.

I mean, yes, okay, I could buy the actual physical CDs, but that involves paying shipping (or else ordering enough to achieve free shipping which works out to the same price -ish) and waiting for them to actually get here and I am a fan of spending the least amount of money possible + instant gratification.

Why are you thwarting me.

Why.

So I've kind of failed at LJ lately, haven't I? I'M SORRY. D: I blame work. Between being too tired to post, having no time to post, and having nothing but work to talk about in a post, I've sort of let journaling fall by the wayside. BECAUSE I SUCK.

Anyway, here's what's going on with teh Chica outside of work:

- Most notably, I just spent wayyy too much money ordering a Sony VAIO laptop + accessories. On the "well, this is a reasonable expense" side, it was all money I'd been setting aside all summer for the express purpose of eventually buying a nice computer, and while Sally is still good to me and I have no intention of permanently retiring her just yet, I do really want a new laptop. One that's actually portable; it is sort of a ridiculous production trying to take Sally anywhere.
On the other side, SHIT $1,600 ON ONE PURCHASE and I'm going to be unemployed two weeks from now and oh God I finalized the purchase less than twenty minutes ago and shopper's remorse is already setting in. Fail, self.

- Currently airing shows I am watching:

Merlin - technically caught up on; not actually paying terribly much attention to what's going on this season. IDK, it's not holding me anymore. This may be because of the hack job the writers did to ALL OF THEIR CHARACTERS (but especially Morgana dammit).

Psych - Woo, Psych is back! The heavy-handed Shawn/Juliet isn't making me enthuse but EVERYTHING ELSE IS. I can even excuse the awful polygraph "I love her" scene where everyone looks SHOCKED AND STUNNED BECAUSE OMG SHAWN LOVES JULES, because the whole plot was kicked off by Shawn and Gus trying to get a kid's Darth Vader action figure back. Oh yes.

Sarah Jane Adventures - I can't believe it's almost over. :/ I keep getting caught up in plots and character-glee and then all of a sudden Sarah will say something and my brain will stop dead and go "LIS :( :( :(". Yes, just like that.
In actual story-related reactions, I have no strong feelings about Sky except that her intro story is entirely too much like Luke's -- it's awkward and weird to do it that way. But CLYDE. Clyde, you are lovely and you should be the next Doctor Who Companion Doctor anything you want to be, Clyde my boy.

...is that all the currently-airing stuff I'm watching right now? That's kind of depressing.

- I have recently and unexpectedly fallen in love with the movie Ondine. There may be some form of pimp post in the future. Probably picspam because it is such a ridiculously pretty movie. So keep an eye out for that.

- NaNoWriMo is coming up! And because I have no willpower and teh Niki is an enabler, I'm evidently going to be trying to do two novels simultaneously this year. WHAT THE HELL, ME. One's a time-travel story about a guy who loses his memory, the other's a mythpunk story about a selkie and the half-evil sorcerer who steals her skin. Yeah. I don't know either.

What have I missed while I was away, LJ? I PROMISE TO LOVE YOU BETTER NOW.

...I need to stop spending money.

(Today I bought two Discworld books plus the Doctor Who "The Beginning" DVD set. All excellent purchases, but still, I need to stop spending money.)

(In related news, I am still waiting for my signed copy of the xkcd book. Or even a shipping notice, I would take a shipping notice happily. COME ON, RANDALL. Please? I realized when I ordered it that I would probably regret ordering a signed copy, but I thought that would be because of the price hike not the interminable wait. *sadfaces a bit*)

(Also in related news, omg how much do I want this shirt? SO MUCH.)

...um.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (LOST - HeroinAddict!Claire)
Day made! OMG. So cool. NGL it made me so ridiculously happy to find this in my e-mail. :D :D :D

In related news, ARDU has updated with the first installment of "The Pretender"!

In unrelated news, poking at eBay and Half.com re: the Pogues albums I'm missing, and found the EPs, of all things. *flail* Six bucks for the Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah EP on CD. I can't justify spending much money right now, given that whole "unemplyed" thing, but...six bucks. That's so not bad. Right?

I just spent a ridiculous amount of time overhauling the tag system for [livejournal.com profile] fandomfrom3. The upshot is that it's way more organized now (and, for instance, there are now separate tags for Charlie Pace and Charlie Hume, which there weren't before). On the other hand it took for-freaking-ever and I don't think anybody but me will care.

Also, I realized that it was something like two and a half years ago that I promised to write The Trial Of Brendan Lahey. Oh, wow, I suck so much.

The Artist Arena refund finally arrived in my bank account, and I activated my new bank card, and I sent out a few more resumes into the ether. I have the most boring life everrrr, omg.

[title of show] coming to Arizona! I wish I lived in Arizona. Not really, but I'd like to see this.

So far today I've called Artist Arena to switch my concert tickets to the Friday show, sent off resume/references/letter to three theaters with job openings (an ME position, an assistant ME position, and a light board op position), and submitted "The End Of The Road (Is The Beginning Of Your Life)" to [livejournal.com profile] fic_tossed for a review. It's kind of sad that the most recent Whofic I've written was in September '07.

And! Artist Arena just e-mailed me again to tell me that the deal's been upgraded and now they'll be refunding the full cost of the tickets, so I'll be going to see the Friday show free of charge. Which is kind of awesome, yo. I mean it's not awesome that they're this desperate to get people to switch to Friday, and I feel bad for the people who can't switch and who might wind up getting turned away from the door on Saturday, and HoB kind of sucks for overselling their show, but I'm going to see the Pogues for no cost. That's kind of awesome.

Also that one Harper vid I was talking about several posts a month or so ago is very nearly done.

All in all, a good day so far.

> Teh Niki's definitely out of the Boston trip. :( I'm gonna call the airline and cry at them and see if they'll transfer one of the plane tickets to a different name, since I already know I can't get a refund. If I can, I'll transfer her ticket to my dad's name. No go - tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Blah. Going to try to get my dad to scrape up the cash for his own ticket. Tickets bought! Managed to get him on the same flights. :) Going to Boston with my dad won't be the same, but dammit, I'm going to Boston and I'm going to see my Shane if there's any possible way I can make this trip work.

> Today I logged into and updated my fic journal for the first time since...November, and miniNaNo. Uhm. Yay, me? At least I finally did something.

> My W-2s finally arrived today! So maybe I can get some money back! Yay!

> Awesome thing: [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest. Go, join, prompt, wait to claim, whatever. It's got some awesome prompts already.

> ARD is still pretty much the highlight of my day. Almost done with book #5 right now. I love these guys to a ridiculous degree.

* I hate colds. Now I'm all sniffly and achey and I don't like it. *sulks*

* Ticketmaster keeps sending me "Don't miss Pogues!" e-mail alerts, which reminds me -- Niki, we really need to set down the details for realz. You know, how we're going to get there, where we're going to stay, that sort of thing. Only two months 'til the House of Blues and Boston!

* If anyone has ever doubted that I'm a packrat...well, I have two 250gb external hard drives, and as of yesterday I kind of really need a third, because one is Absolutely Full and the other one is Well I Guess I Could Fit A Little More But Don't Push It. Also I kind of can't really justify buying a third until someone actually hires me or I find a really cheap decent one.

* On the topic of jobs, I sent my resume out to those jobs I thought I might possibly be qualified for. Haven't heard anything back yet, but it's still soon. Still looking for other jobs I might possibly be qualified for. Teh Niki wants me to apply at the Norva, which would be cool but I can't seem to find a place to send my resume to.

* I lost most of yesterday to TVTropes and still have it open in a tab. Why is this site so horribly addictive?

* The BBC is looking for a new Doctor Who producer. Do you think they'd hire me? You know, despite my being American and having no experience whatsoever? Because that would be AWESOME.

* LOST premiers this Wednesday! Next-to-last season. We're coming up on the endgame, guys. ...look, I'm not thrilled that most of my favorite characters are dead, but I've still got Hurley and Sun and Desmond and Penny and Daniel and Miles to invest in, okay?

* Hoshit. I just went to the LOST Wikipedia page to make sure I was right about that next-to-last season thing and out of curiosity clicked on the "characters of Lost" link. ...skipping past "Oceanic 6", when you go to the "Other main Oceanic 815 crash survivors", you have to go seven characters down before you find one that isn't dead. *flail* Writers, come on.

* I have a new Chess audio to listen to. *bounce*

* Draft one of that Harper vid is done! I already can see some things that I know I want to change, but I'm letting it sit for a couple days before I do draft two, so I can come at it fresh.

Okay, I officially hate shopping on Amazon.com for multiple shipping addresses in the same order. However, after much triple-checking, I am fairly certain that everything I ordered is going to go where I want it to go. *fingers crossed*

Anyway.

Christmas shopping update.

The mom's gift is half (or sixty-six percent, I'm not sure yet) accomplished. Part of the problem is that I'm not sure what the other half/third will be, but I know I want to get her a little more.

The dad's gift is purchased (online) and waiting to be shipped.

The older sister's gift is partially done, but since I figure the other part is probably going to be money and a nice card for her and the new BIL, that won't be hard to finish.

The younger brother's gift is about half purchased-online-and-waiting-to-be-shipped. I'm again not sure what the other half is going to be but I'm leaning towards an iTunes gift card. Or Dr Horrible on DVD, but since that doesn't come out 'til the 14th it seems a little bit of a time crunch y'know?

The key part of teh Niki's gift is purchased-online-and-waiting-to-be-shipped. The other part is homemade so will have to wait until closer to gift-giving date.

In terms of flist shopping:

[livejournal.com profile] superduperkc, [livejournal.com profile] oc_pixie, and [livejournal.com profile] theformofstars, your gifts should be winging their way towards you very soon. [livejournal.com profile] sio, yours should be arriving very soon if it hasn't already, I don't really know. [livejournal.com profile] quaere_verum_xi, yours should be arriving tomorrow, I believe. I'm kind of confused by the way it was phrased. [livejournal.com profile] agapi42, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing for you! But it's gonna be another couple days. [livejournal.com profile] ladyfiresprite, I'm still working on most-feasible-options, but hopefully it'll all get figured out ASAP.

If your username is not in that paragraph somewhere but you've posted a wishlist of any sort, please drop me a comment and let me know! GUYS I LOVE YOU. YOU'RE ALL AWESOME. LET ME APPRECIATE YOUR AWESOMENESS.

I did my rehire interview today. I was incredibly awkward -- I really don't interview well -- and they said they'd let me know in January or February if they decided they want me back next season.

Regardless I need to find some kind of job to get me through to at least March. Possibly later if I don't get rehired.

Park closes on Sunday, and then I have two weeks of strike, and November 9 is my last day, and then I'm unemployed again. :/ Luckily I am not actually as bad at saving money as I tend to think I am, so my bank account is in okay shape regardless of my soon-to-be-joblessness.

Um. In fannish news slightly belated thoughts on Pushing Daisies 2x04 Frescorts )

The ratings don't look good, though. I can't afford to lose this show, guys. I don't know what I'd do without it. I may be exaggerating a little. But I really don't want it to get canceled.

Yesterday I bought a new hat and a new scarf as part of my ongoing attempt to become the sort of person who wears hats and scarves. I would like to be the sort of person who wears hats and scarves, and every so often I buy new ones (or am gifted new ones) and start trying again.

But the sad fact is that so far I have totally failed at being that sort of person. There is an art, or possibly a knack, to wearing hats and scarves, a knack that I do not possess. I keep trying to teach myself this knack, but it has so far not worked. Maybe this time it will work? If anyone has any tips on how to become the sort of person who wears hats and scarves, feel free to share advice.

I also bought a lot of other things. Next Sunday is the end of the Busch Gardens season, so I went in early yesterday and abused my employee discount buying things. Since I barely used it this summer, except occasionally to buy myself a meal when I didn't want to go to the EBAs.

Anyway. Happy-making fandom-related things:

Pictures of the Torchwood gang at the Hub convention. THEY'RE ALL SO PRETTY, and how happy am I to see Kai so well represented in the pics? Why can't I live somewhere or have the kind of money that I could go to events like this?

New SJA to watch!! I am very excited about this. I'm liking Rani a good bit although her name throws me off and I am still missing her predecessor a lot. A lot a lot.

I now own an official [title of show] shirt and poster. Which make me almost happy enough to forget momentarily that Broadway was stupid enough not to give them a long, long run at the Lyceum.

In other [tos] news: click me!

I have been binging on M*A*S*H episodes recently. Why? Because I like to. The show was a major part of my childhood, and it remains completely awesome as I grow up. (Although I have difficulty watching the really old episodes with the relentless laugh tracks. I know when to laugh at their jokes on my own, kthnx.)

...I feel like I had more things to say, but I don't remember what they were, so here, have a bunny suicide.

I'm BORED!

I'm writing to y'all from Evan's office, where I have been since five o'clock. Baby-sitting the Nutcracker rehearsal. Which means sitting in Evan's office unless they wander in here to ask me for something specific. So far, that consisted of about ten minutes of moving things out of the hallway, and other than that...sitting here.

I did get the script for Theatre For Young Audiences tomorrow typed up and e-mailed off to the relevant people. And I've listened to the NYACK concert version of Chess, the NY previews of Bare, and am now into the OLC of Chess (damn, I love my iPod). Other than that...BORED. VERY BORED. Also tired and undercaffeinated because this is the week wherein I try VERY HARD not to touch the four Cokes sitting in my dorm refrigerator because there's a really good chance that those four will have to get me through finals week because I don't have anything like the time to go off-campus and buy more. BLEGH.

...annnnnnnd I'm back. The Nutcracker folks just came in to let me know that they're leaving so I locked everything up for them (and just remembered that I forget to check the lighting booth...back in a sec...back), but the school dance team is still rehearsing in the Black Box so I can't leave 'til they're done and I can lock everything up. MORE BLEGH. The paycheck had better be worth it, that's all I can say.

Snagged from half the folks on my flist right now:

Comment and I'll give you a pic/screencap of the character you most remind me of and tell you why. Then you do the same for me.

Screencaps may have to wait until this long, tedious evening is over and I'm back in my room with access to my own computer, or depending on how long the dance team takes I might just google pics for you. Suits?
