So! Some updates.

> I've started a new job! Finally. After all kinds of things almost happening and then falling through, hahaha let's not dwell on that. It worked out for the best because this new job is probably the best I could hope for in current circumstances. It is another call center job but it is fully remote so I don't have to worry about being asked to relocate to an in-office position and (this is the best part) I am not in a customer-facing position. When I got the offer letter I was under the impression I was being hired as a customer-service rep based on, you know, my past few years' experience, but then I actually got in and they were like 'no we actually want you to manage schedule adherence for the CSRs' and as someone who haaates talking to strangers and talking on the phone but had resigned herself to it because of the need for health insurance and steady paychecks, this is so ideal. The pay is also great and I really like my team and the benefits haven't kicked in yet but they will soon and that will be such a relief.

> I have scheduled my vaccine! First shot this Monday! That will also be a massive relief!

> I feel like I should put something fannish here but there's not really anything fannish going on for me right now. Still patiently waiting for news of a Doctor Who air date. The first installment of the Ninth Doctor Adventures should be coming next month, so I'm excitedly anticipating that. Dropkick Murphys' new album comes out on Friday -- I don't know if that counts as fannish, but it's also something I'm excitedly anticipating. Taylor Swift dropped Fearless (Taylor's Version) which was superfun to revisit and I enjoyed the new tracks but also this weird gray area of this album I already know very well -- I was 20 when it originally came out! (And it's not exactly my favorite of her projects; I'm very interested in seeing the rerecorded RED and Speak Now, though.) As far as TV goes, most of the CW DC shows are currently airing but they're not really keeping my interest; I'm hoping Legends of Tomorrow will be the exception when it comes back next week. New Amsterdam is great (but stressful and extremely tied up in Covid19) but not something I'm exactly fannish about. It's a weird feeling. I would like something to happen.

How's everyone else?

Anyway.

As of this week I've officially transitioned to working from home. I have a call center job, so working from home sucks pretty much exactly as much as working from the office but with bonus tech problems, but in times of a global pandemic, yes, I will 100% take working from home. Of my roommates, one is also working from home, one is using sick leave while she tries to persuade her boss that a) they are not an essential business and/or b) dude they can totally work from home, and the last is the only person working in her office, which is closed to the public and only taking phone business. We are practicing social isolation as much as possible.

These are very strange times we are living in.

I hope you are all staying safe and sane.

Oh, hey, this thing is still on.

(I miss LJ and this is entirely my own fault. I need to start posting more often. I do keep up with my flist! . . . I just don't comment. Also entirely my own fault.)

This is going to be a rambling mess of a post.

I think that covers the basics, at least. Hopefully more soon <3

MERRY CHRISTMAS IF YOU CELEBRATE IT, MERRY DECEMBER 25TH OTHERWISE. Or December 26th, depending on your time zone.

Aside from the fact that I'm still sick (IT'S BEEN TWO MONTHS THAT IS TOO LONG FOR THIS STUPID COLD TO STICK AROUND) and that it's ridiculously warm, it's been a pretty great Christmas so far.

My brother went all-out on gifts and pretty much completed my Neil Gaiman collection (INCLUDING THE DELUXE EDITION OF THE SANDMAN OVERTURE) plus some baking-related stuff I've been wanting, my sister and her family got me a Netflix gift card that will pay for my account for like four months and a bit, and the parents got me some nice clothes (including an EXCELLENT scarf that I really wish it wasn't way too warm to wear), a beautiful coloring book and nice colored pencils, and Into The Woods on blu-ray. I AM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT ALL OF THIS. Also a bunch of people at work gave me various kinds of food. Thank you, people at work!

And everyone seemed really pleased with what I got them which is AWESOME. (I am the world's most insecure gift-giver. Even when I'm buying people things they've specifically said they want. WHAT IF THEY CHANGED THEIR MIND?!)

Also, YULETIDE. I've barely made a dent in the archive as a whole, but I received two gifts and they're both INCREDIBLE: y a lo exterior regresan las cosas en ti ocultas, an utterly gorgeous Sense8 fic about Lito and Capheus connecting that manages to combine everything I ever wanted and does it beautifully, and Start Here, a fantastically adorable Girl Meets World fic about Zay meeting the guy of his dreams on his first day of college that just about kills me with cute.

Happy December 25th!

The one really good thing about being super-sensitive to drugs is that you can get away with taking way fewer meds than most people. The really bad thing about being super-sensitive to drugs is that you have to spend $30 on the non-drowsy allergy meds for a cold because the $8 cold meds will have you unconscious for eighteen hours and then waking up feeling worse than you did before you took them.

This is a pointless post. Sorry.

Walked downtown to the Potato Festival today. It's the second day of a three-day event, in case you were somehow harboring a belief that I do not live in the middle of nowhere. POTATOES.

There were free fries. And (not-free) funnel cake (which does not seem in the spirit of a potato fest, but funnel cake is delicious so I'm not complaining to anyone). So, you know. And there will be fireworks tonight (because how can you celebrate potatoes without fireworks), although I will probably watch them from the house instead of walking downtown again.

To be fair, potatoes are pretty awesome.

I kinda suck at social media lately, and I'm sorry. :/ I think I've officially failed at my New Year's resolution to post here more often, even absolving myself of that whole land-of-no-Internet period. I HAVE TO GET BETTER AT THIS.

Things that are going on:

- Today I am relistening to old episodes of Animorphs: The Radio Drama (Uncensored!) because there are no new episodes because I feel like it. It's been a while. I'd almost forgotten how much I love these guys. I now kind of want to listen to them read one of the books while I follow along and annotate an e-book copy with their comments, but on the other hand that sounds like a lot of work for someone as lazy as me.

- Yuletide nominations start soon, and I am, indeed, planning to participate in Yuletide for the second time and nominations for the first time; SUPER EXCITING. (I may also have failed my write-more-fic resolution for the year. I don't remember what the exact wording of it was. But it hasn't exactly been a banner year for productivity.)

- It's almost time for first-run TV shows to come back! According to the app I depend on to tell me these things, Sleepy Hollow premieres in a week, Castle comes back in two weeks, Elementary comes back three days later, Once Upon A Time returns three days after that, and then a bit later Once Upon A Time In Wonderland and Almost Human premiere. So. That should give me stuff to post about. (Fingers crossed for greatness. Three new shows is a lot for me to try picking up at once; hopefully at least one hooks me, although it would be super awesome if they all do.) (Other new shows I am vaguely planning to try: Star-Crossed on the CW, because Robert Hewitt Wolfe on staff, and Girl Meets Boy, because Boy Meets World sequel, but I don't know when either one of them premieres). I am also super excited about spoilers I've seen for Elementary and Once Upon A Time; haven't seen spoilers for Castle, but fingers crossed there, too.

- It's still almost two months until NaNoWriMo but I'm getting nervous about it already. I have the bare bones of an idea and slightly more development on the two main characters; I keep poking at it and mostly coming up with things that aren't going to be useful (if they ever are) until I'm well into Plot.

- I am super behind on the marathoning-old-shows-that-are-new-to-me project (specifically HIMYM at the moment); for various personal reasons I kind of just lost momentum and haven't gotten back to it. I need to do that. That was a New Year's resolution, too. I need to accomplish at least a few of these things.

- In personal news, I'm still unemployed but have resumed trying to learn how to drive. So. Maybe that will be helpful.

- I apologize for the length of this post.

How I Met Your Mother season 2: 8 / 10

In other news, I'm leaving tonight to head for Maine for a week-long family reunion! So that should be cool. Next time I post I will (presumably) be back in New England!

I turned 27 years old today! (God, I feel old.)

And then my parents bought me a hardcover copy of Neil Gaiman's new book, The Ocean At The End Of The Lane, which is a pretty great birthday present. Both because of my longstanding crush on Neil Gaiman's literary prowess and also because this is a pretty great book to own in hardcover.

This is another in a string of "I'm not dead, just deprived of time and dependable Internet" posts. I'm sorry for that.

And yesterday I dealt with one of the most terrifying things in the universe -- a group of opera singers waving around lit torches on a mostly-wooden set. I swear I kept thinking "WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE BEFORE THIS SHOW CLOSES". So that might happen.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (c: st: tefe holland)
This is mostly a post to let you all know that I'm still alive. I'm still alive, by the way!

Other things:

Real life: Job is going fairly well so far. It's been very busy. I really like the rest of the electrics crew, they're nifty. We're taking a road trip to DC tomorrow, so that should be interesting.

The Tony Awards: Which I actually got to see! Live and everything! We got a group together and watched. We lost about ten minutes in the middle due to bad weather, but we got most of the ceremony. I have no complaints about the winners. Most of the speeches were lovely, though a few went on far too long. Most of the performances were great too, though A Christmas Story looks completely awful. Cinderella's performance was mind-blowing, you should look that up on YouTube if you haven't seen it; they definitely deserved that best costume design win. Loved the opening number and the closing number (AUDRA IS A BADASS AND I LOVE HER) and the concept of performers from current-running shows presenting the performances even if some of the actual execution was awkward as hell. (Whose bright idea was it to have Rock Of Ages introduce Cinderella?)

Fandom: I AM BEHIND IN EVERYTHING. Eventually I will get caught up. Luckily most of my shows are on hiatus; I think it's just Warehouse 13 and Continuum that I'm falling further and further behind on. I'M SORRY. Is there any interesting Doctor Who casting speculation? I've been poking around but it seems scattered to the four winds and I don't have a lot of time to hunt. :(

I MISS YOU GUYS A LOT.

INTERNET. I GO AWAY FOR ONE WEEKEND AND YOU GREET ME WITH THIS??? WHY.

(In other news, the internet access here is kind of terrible so I probably won't be posting much. But I will try to stay alert of major news like the above.)
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (b: ng: cruel joke)
This is a multipurpose post.

> I watched season 3 of Eureka and have been intending to write a reaction post. Alas. That has not happened. Instead there will be this brief note that I felt fairly meh about it, though I'm not sure whether that's because of the show itself or because that's how I've felt about a lot of things recently. Either way I rate it a 5/10.

> I also watched this week's Continuum and intended to write a reaction post. Again. That failed to happen. Instead I will just note that I'm really interested to find out where the Alec & Kellogg plot is going.

> Tomorrow I move in order to start my new job the following day. I am SLIGHTLY NERVOUS about this, if by SLIGHTLY NERVOUS it can be understood I mean 'anxious and chewing on my fingers'. Hopefully it will go well. As I've mentioned before, it's only a two-month engagement, but the work seems like it will be really interesting. (And, you know. Filling up blank spots on my résumé. And paychecks. And possibly good references if it goes well.)
I don't know why my schedule will be like for this job, or for that matter what the Internet situation will be, so. Bear that in mind, I guess.

> It's just that I'm so bad at people.

> I'm pretty sure there were other things I intended to include in this post but now I can't remember them.

I have received my Christmas present from my bb brother!

He's let having a good job go to his head. I'm not complaining in the least.

So obviously I immediately put on the Pogues DVD.

The Internet here is NOT THE GREATEST, so this is not going to be a long post; just wanted to let you guys know that I arrived safely in Missouri, and my nephew is growing like a weed, and also the Internet here is not the greatest so I will be online only sporadically.

Back soon!
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: dw: ace)
Ughh, I don't know why I suck at updating LJ, but apparently I do.

This is mostly an RL post, so feel free to scroll past.

not as much whining as most of my RL posts )

Wish me luck?

(I am also, at some point, going to resume my Great Doctor Who EDA read, and tackle another TV show from my Shows I Haven't Yet Watched list, and, you know, try to write fic again, but I'm putting those projects off until I have more fannish energy.)

chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: ani: ?)
Massively annoyed at Apple right now. I tried to sync my iPod last night and it kept aborting the sync. Finally managed to finish, turned it on, and discovered that it had not actually finished, it had just decided to erase all of my music, photos, and books and give up. Several attempts to reinstall the deleted media failed. Did a factory reset and tried to reinstall everything from scratch. Managed to get a most of my apps and all my presaved pictures put back on, but still no go on the music or books.

Googling turned up a few people on Apple's forums having the same problem, so I'm guessing it's a software problem of some kind? This does not make me feel better, particularly since the only official word from Apple so far is "um, try this maybe?" and it's all stuff I've already tried. No one seems to have found a solution that works.

I finally managed to reinstall all my apps (via the App Store on my iPod rather than via iTunes) and am currently streaming my music via wi-fi from my laptop. Neither of these are permanent fixes, and this is incredibly frustrating. I just want my iPod to work for what it's designed to do is that so much to ask.

At least now I'm pretty sure it's not my fault?

I have returned from a week in Missouri, home of, um, not much. My nephew's growing like a weed, though.

Upon my return, I have found that the trailer for Red Dwarf X has been released, and now I am happy. <3

... is there any particular reason why I don't have a Red Dwarf icon? *ponders*
