Series 13 news, including an airdate! The series is subtitled "Flux" and will be airing starting October 13. We'll be seeing Sontarans, Weeping Angels, the Ravagers, "enemies from across the universe".

I'm on-board with the speculation that this might be tying in somehow with the Faction Paradox! Obscure? Yes! But I don't care! The EU has already brought the Faction Paradox back, in the anthology book Wintertime Paradox, and the idea of time as something that's constantly being rewritten -- including the Doctor's own past -- is something that could tie in with Chibnall's Timeless Child arc very, very nicely. Am I wildly spitballing? Yes! Excited to see where this leads, whether or not it's connected to the Faction Paradox.

Also hugely excited to finally have an airdate. Halloween! Yay! THAT'S SO CLOSE.

In other Doctor Who news.

Took a brief break from my PDA readthrough because I finally got my hands on the three new Target new-series novelizations, Dalek, The Crimson Horror, and The Witchfinders. (I preordered them in April of 2020. Mm, pandemic delays.) Thoughts below the cut!

Dalek by Robert Shearman )

The Crimson Horror by Mark Gatiss )

The Witchfinders by Joy Wilkinson )

Three excellent reads. Recommended.

In other New Who news, Jodie and Chris will be leaving the show as of autumn 2022. So similar to David's run we're getting three seasons and then a handful of specials.

I'm so tired of this three-and-done run trend. :( Very sad to see Jodie leaving, I love her to bits.

In true Whovian fashion, though, I'm very excited to see who comes next! Desperately hoping our next Doctor is a woman as well and that Jodie has set the trend. Hopefully a woman of color, there's so many great actresses out there. IDK, I'm sure whoever it is will be great.

I have literally no clue who the next showrunner will be. There doesn't seem to be an obvious successor this time, which is making me a little nervous.

WE'LL SEE.

Anyway, in classic Who news, I've finished two more Past Doctor Adventures!

PDA 07 The Face Of The Enemy by David A McIntree )

PDA 08 Eye of Heaven by Jim Mortimore )

Both excellent reads, for very different reasons. Both highly recommended.

Well, this post is late, but that's how I roll.

Two big pieces of Doctor Who news to discuss!

First, from Big Finish )

Second, from the Comicon panel, regarding series thirteen )
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Default)
The new Doctor Who trailer looks great, I'm in love.

spoilers and capslock beneath, you know the drill )

Happy Doctor Who Day! I need to update my 13-era icons.

(In non-Doctor-Who news I keep meaning to write up a post about other things that have happened -- I've gone to two shows and spent a weekend in Boston and both those things deserve a writeup -- so somebody kick me until I actually post about it. But in the meantime. Yay, Doctor Who!)
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Default)
I've been watching the new Doctor Who trailer over and over and over again and I'm so delighted by every single thing in it. Series 11 looks like it's going to be AMAZING and Jodie is already a brilliant Doctor and I love her companion team to bits despite not having seen a complete episode yet.

Is it October 7 yet?? I'm seriously considering using some vacation time to skip work and watch the premiere.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Default)
There are some really good things about my current job, including regular paychecks, three-day weekends, and paid sick leave/vacation time (which I haven't used yet but it's nice to know it's there). On the other hand, the flip side of those three-day weekends is a forty-hour work week packed into four days combined with a half-hour one-way commute, which doesn't leave me a lot of time during those four days for...anything not work-related.

That was a mildly long-winded way of saying that this post is a collection of reactions to Doctor Who-related things that everyone else has already had a chance to react to.

First of all, the new series Target novelizations were finally released in dead-tree format in the US, hallelujah, and before I share my Feelings I feel obligated to state that I am still working my way through the classic series Target novelizations. It's been slowed down a lot by a) the aforementioned job and b) an influx of books I've felt like I needed to read immediately, but progress is being made. I'm about halfway through Leela's run right now. Next reaction post coming when I finish Four's era.

But anyway the new ones.

Rose )

The Christmas Invasion )

Day of the Doctor )

Twice Upon A Time )

brief thoughts on the four as a whole )

In semi-related news, some Thirteen-related stuff leaked earlier this week, and like a bad fan I immediately hunted it down to see for myself.

And I love her. This is not a surprise, but, oh man, I love her so much. "Sorry, half an hour ago I was a white-haired Scotsman." And I love Officer Khan Yaz to her friends. And Ryan got to say about three words and I don't care I love him. TONGUE! Clever boy. Biology.

I'm serious, here, instant infatuation with all three of them, and "Shame, I'm looking for a Doctor."

I'm not as sold on the new sonic screwdriver design yet, but maybe it'll look better in action -- and Jodie in those goggles is possibly both the cutest and the most Doctor-y thing I've seen in a while.

I assume all of this was meant to be released as SDCC? I feel bad for TPTB that it got leaked early, but not bad enough to not check it out. It's glorious. I want full episodes nowwww./whine

And I guess the last thing to include here is that I just received my copy of Twice Upon A Time on Blu-Ray! But aside from being mildly disappointed in the lackluster bonus features, I don't have a whole lot to say about that. It's an episode I enjoy a lot and I'm glad to have it on Blu-Ray now. ♥

INTRODUCING . . .

technically spoilers for next season of Doctor Who )

This was also a good reminder that I needed to update my DW icons.

Which kind of renders that spoiler cut pointless. Sorry.

Everything about the new Doctor Who trailer is filling me with glee, excitement, and resentment that it isn't already August 23rd. I'm looking forward to Twelve, Clara, and Vastra, dinosaurs, Daleks, and cybermen SO MUCH.

OH MY GOD

OH MY GOD

Will someone talk about this with me? Anyone? I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS.

"I'm a Doctor...but probably not the one you're expecting."

This is a post of unrelated things.

♦ NaNo is actually not going terribly. I just finished Part 1 of this story; pretty sure it's going to be three parts. Part 1 dragged on longer than I wanted it to, given that it's mostly setup, but hooray! it's done now and I can move on to the more interesting and plotty bits.

♦ There is new Once Upon A Time tonight and it has real!Belle! SCORE.

♦ The new Discworld is out! And part of me really wants to read it now, but another part thinks I should wait until I finish my Giant Discworld Reread. (I'm up to Night Watch, so I've got about 10 books left.) I am not sure what to do. Opinions?

♦ I've recently gotten suddenly obsessed with Declan Bennett's solo music. I'm not sure why I wasn't already, because it's so good. So consider this a recommendation.

♦ THE DOCTOR WHO TRAILERS LOOK FANTASTIC OH MY GOD. Yes, I squeed aloud at the first shot of Matt and David together. And yes, I cheered at "you've redecorated! ...I don't like it." JUST CRAM IN ALL THE CONTINUITY NODS AND FANPLEASING, MOFF, EVERYTHING ELSE CAN TAKE CARE OF ITSELF. AND THERE WAS THAT TWIRLY HUG WITH ELEVEN AND CLARA THAT WAS DELIGHTFUL. What's up with Rose, though? Bad Wolf? Future version? Alternate timeline? Not really Rose at all? She doesn't look or sound like S2!Rose, that's for sure. I did say the way they announced Tennant and Piper way back when made me suspect we weren't getting S2!Ten&Rose, didn't I? I remember saying that. That little smirk of Clara's when she used the vortex manipulator? EXCELLENT. I am assuming until someone proves otherwise that she remembers everything from all of her zillions of lives saving the Doctor and is just going to be super blasé about Ten. Also, HURT!DOCTOR and THE MOMENT and GALLIFREY and TIME LORDS and ZYGONS and DALEKS and I AM VERY EXCITED.

I am almost certain there were other things I intended to talk about, which I have now forgotten. Sorry?

Congratulations to Peter Capaldi, and welcome to the Doctor Who family!

I was going to say I have seen you in nothing ever, but then I looked up your IMDB, and apparently I saw you as John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children Of Earth, and also as Caecilius in Doctor Who: The Fires Of Pompeii, thus proving once again that the Whoniverse likes reusing actors. Oh, and Islington in Neverwhere, that's me pleased.

Honestly you have a very impressive IMDB page, but mostly I'm excited for an older Doctor again (55!) and another Scottish Doctor; hopefully you will use your own accent.

Yay for casting news!

INTERNET. I GO AWAY FOR ONE WEEKEND AND YOU GREET ME WITH THIS??? WHY.

(In other news, the internet access here is kind of terrible so I probably won't be posting much. But I will try to stay alert of major news like the above.)

OMG.

This is why I stalk the #dwsr tag on Twitter.

Coal Hill Secondary School Chairman of the Governors: I. Chesterton.

So this means a William Russell appearance, right? RIGHT?

OMG OMG OMG

Literally if the 50th Anniversary includes William Russell as Ian, THE REST OF IT DOESN'T MATTER I WILL LOVE IT FOREVER.

Has everyone seen this picture? You have? I can't stop staring at it. MATT AND DAVID IN COSTUME TOGETHER *FLAILS EVERYWHERE* WHY DO I NOT HAVE VIDEO YET

... In other Doctor Who related news, the Internet has just informed me that starting tonight Arthur Darvill is playing the Guy in the Broadway production of Once, why is this not information that was given to me sooner (and why is it not being plastered everywhere this is some really weird publicity technique, Once, he may not be Tom Cruise or whoever but HE WILL SELL TICKETS).

Children In Need premiered a a prologue minisode and trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas special, now officially named "The Snowmen"!

Basically my thoughts can be summed up as: not really spoilery but better safe than sorry )
