chicafrom3Oh my God I am so jealous of everyone who got to watch this in a movie theater.
THAT. WAS. GLORIOUS.
Every moment of it, from the opening shot of Totters' Lane to that final image of All The Doctors (until Matt). Every second.
I took zero notes because I was concentrating so hard on watching, so I'm sorry if I forget anything, which I am almost certain to do because THERE WAS SO MUCH TO GUSH OVER. May rewatch it tonight once I can get control of the TV again.
But OH MY GOD. Some things that stuck out:
- CLARA! Has moved on from nannying and is teaching. AT COAL HILL SCHOOL. WHERE I. CHESTERTON IS IN CHARGE. Also we got a shot of her, much later, checking out Kate Stewart's Board Of Companions, particularly the Ian/Barbara/Susan section, so I'm choosing to believe that when this is all over she goes to talk to him and they start chatting about traveling in the TARDIS. And then he makes excuses for her when she goes missing for unexplained periods of time.
- Mildly disappointed that they suggested that Clara doesn't remember her time as the Impossible Girl in the Doctor's timeline (Eleven has to explain UNIT to her, for example), but then we got her saying she remembered "a bit" meeting Ten and Eight And A Half before, so I'm choosing to believe that she remembers it, it's just that details are so blurry as to be obscured unless she's focusing on something.
- I TOTALLY CALLED BILLIE PIPER NOT PLAYING TEN'S ROSE. I thought she was just playing the Bad Wolf at first and was kind of weirded out because the way she was talking and her body language was very much not Rose, not even Rose as the Bad Wolf, but then there was the "The interface is hot." "Well I do try." exchange and I realized what was going on, so WELL DONE BILLIE PIPER. She had a great chemistry with John Hurt, too.
- When 8.5 told the Interface that he was ready, the Moment had come, and Clara asked who he was talking to, I thought for a second that she could see her too.
- The 8.5/10/11 dynamic was spot on and wonderful. Granddad, Sand Shoes, and Chinny!
- DID ANYONE ELSE GET TEARY EYED OVER "The round things!" "I loved the round things!" "What are they?" "I've never known" EXCHANGE OR AM I JUST WEIRD?I want the roundels back.
- Kate Stewart was SMASHING. I love her. Can we start treating her like the Brigadier and just make sure every regeneration gets to interact with her?
- DEAR MOFFAT, THANK YOU FOR RETCONNING TEN'S AWFUL "I married Elizabeth I so I could make a dickish joke about her not being the Virgin Queen anymore" LINE INTO SOMETHING WONDERFUL AND MUCH MORE IN CHARACTER. AND ALSO FOR SOMEWHAT REDEEMING "I don't want to go". SO YES THANK YOU.
- So Gallifrey isn't back but now it has the potential to come back. And the Doctor can let go of his guilt about the Time War because he knows what his actual intentions were and he knows that he can bring them back. I LIKE THIS DEVELOPMENT YES WELL DONE
- I got really excited about 8.5/10/11 arranging their TARDISes in orbit for the plan because I love seeing Doctors work together AND THEN ELEVEN'S ALL "I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS MY WHOLE LIFE" AND WE GET CLIPS OF EVERYBODY ALL OF THEM ONE THROUGH NINE AND EVEN A GLIMPSE OF TWELVE and I BURST INTO TEARS LIKE A LOON
- I genuinely believed for a moment that Moffat was going to reset the Time War itself, with 10 and 11 convincing 8.5 not to use the Moment, and that was the gamechanger everyone involved had been talking about, so well done on faking me out.
- When 8.5 started regenerating I also genuinely believed for a moment that we were going to see him turn into 9, but I guess Chris Eccleston meant it when he said the scheduling didn't work out.
- I haven't mentioned the Zygons yet, have I? THAT IS A TRAVESTY. Because I was super excited to see them back and they were used to great effect, even if the Time War turned out to be the episode's ultimate conflict. The treaty scene was spectacular.
- OSGOOD WAS A BIT SPECTACULAR TOO, WASN'T SHE? Particularly when she notices her Zygon double is standing on her scarf and uses that fact to escape. AND THEN THE ADORABLE SCENE WITH THE TWO OF THEM DURING THE TREATY NEGOTIATIONS, WITH THE INHALER AND THE SHY LITTLE SMILE? Killed me dead.
- And then there was Tom Baker AND I SCREAMED ALOUD.
So yes, when is Christmas please?
