So I am still not dead. YAY. I am teetering on the verge of complete burnout, though. :/ But in a week or so Illuminights ends and then stuff starts changing up so maybe a change of routine will help starve off that impending burnout.

I actually did have fandom-related stuff to talk about here, but I'm too tired to go into detail, so: bullet points!
♦ Alphas: Still really liking it. Enjoyed the focus on Rachel this week. She may be my favorite; might be too soon to tell.
♦ Torchwood: Getting less and less enthused each episode. It feels like they're treading the same water they did with COE only with EVEN MORE gratuitous torture porn.
♦ The Pretender: Have I mentioned that I've started watching this? No? Well, I've started watching The Pretender due to one of the guys I work with handing me the first season on DVD and telling me to watch it. My cultural backwardness, let me show you it. I am seven episodes in and enjoying it so far. Jared is endearing.
♦ Doctor Who: Yet another Season 6B trailer! OMG YAY. Is it time for new DW yet? *misses her show*
♦ ...no, wait, I think that might be it.

Did I miss anything?
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (misc: lj)
Thoughts on random things:

Livejournal: LJ! You're back! Are you stable? Pls? I MISSED YOU.
For anyone who didn't find out the details about why LJ was being difficult, this is a good article about the situation.

Music: Have an awesome link! A new JoCo song!

Facebook: I know a few of you had me friended on FB, so I'm just announcing it here for posterity's sake: I have officially deleted my FB account. There were several reasons for this, ranging from "I never use it" to "I'm uncomfortable with their privacy policies", but the end result is the same. I no longer have an account.
In related news, no, I will not be signing up for Google+.

Torchwood: Oh my God, I just ... I can't. There wasn't even any Dichen Lachman this week to distract me from the total lack of any internal logic, consistent characterization, or continuity in any form. What the hell, Torchwood, didn't you used to be enjoyable? Is it me or is it you? One of us has changed and it's not working anymore.

Alphas: But you're working for me, Alphas! I'm seriously enjoying this show so far. Nina and Rachel's complicated friendship warms my heart. I want more Bill; I feel like I don't know him well enough yet. Okay, I feel like I don't know any of the characters well enough yet, but Bill feels more like a blank slate to me than the rest of the cast for some reason. Hicks is generic and bland (omigosh he left a crime scene for coffee how ~rebellious) but I warmed up to him some for that last scene with Gary on the room. AWWW.

Work: It's been a hellish week. I don't wanna talk about it. Maybe next week will be better?
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: dh: sierra)
Watched the second episode of Torchwood, but the only thought I really came away with was "Damn, Dichen Lachman, how so awesome?"

No, seriously, Dichen, ILU.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: dw: 1/barbara)
So I kind of fail at LJ. I'm sorry! Work keeps changing my schedule around to make sure I have as little free time on as minimal notice as possible.

Things of note:
- I have acquired new Torchwood, which I plan to watch tonight after I call my parents and reassure them as well that I am not in fact dead. I am not at all sure how I feel about it. I miss Tosh. Is it going to make me miss Tosh more? :/
- I have also acquired (finally) new Flogging Molly, which I am very excited to listen to once I get the chance. I want to listen to the whole album in one straight shot, since it's reportedly a concept album that all ties together? But I'll probably wind up having to break it down into smaller chunks to fit into my schedule. Boo.
- I have been challenged to write Harper meta for [livejournal.com profile] andromeda_fans! I am debating topics now from among the list of rambling Harper-related topics that meander through my head regularly. It will probably wind up being about either Harper's relationship to 21st century America or Harper's role in the series as the Fool. I'm not sure yet.
- I think I've decided that I'm going to buy an Asus Eee netbook as my next major purchase, although I'm not sure when that will be. One of the guys I work with has one and I've kind of fallen in love with it. It's so little and portable and durable! And then I would be able to, like, write on buses and in restaurants and whatever.

In conclusion: HI LJ I MISSED YOU ♥
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Animorphs - RDU - not actually ironic)
Fair warning: Tomorrow my dad and I will be driving up to upstate New York to spend the week with my sister and meet my bb!nephew for the first time. Will be offline at least until we get there, possibly longer.

30 Days Of TV:

Day 30 ♥ Saddest character death?

Rachel No that's not TV nevermind.

For TV, it's a tossup so I'm going to list both:

) Toshiko Sato. Omigod. So awful. "Because you're breaking my heart", and lying to Owen about what happened to her so they'll finish the task, and then dying only after she's saved the world. Just reading dialogue from Tosh's death puts me in tears all over again. I can't rewatch the episode. I'm pretty sure that would kill me.

) Michael Dawson. Like...I think there are character deaths that impacted LOST as a whole more, and I think there are deaths that the show handled better, but Michael's is the one that tears me up inside the most. It's the actively-working-at-redemption thing, I think. And the fact that "Meet Kevin Johnson" was pretty much an hour of "Rip Chica's heart to tiny little shreds".

...and that's the end of that meme.

I'm pretending the last few days didn't happen, so instead of getting caught up on the 30 Day memes, I'm just going to pick up where I left off.

30 Days Of TV:

Day 16 ♥ Your guilty pleasure show

Glee. Easily.

My dad recently got very confused, because a commercial for Glee came on, and my brother and I started talking about how it's not actually a good show, and the one thing my dad knows about our TV-viewing habits is that both of us watch Glee. Well, yes. Every new episode, we watch. That doesn't actually mean it's a good show.

...I have a lot of ~issues with Glee, but it also hits some of my TV-watching kinks, so I'm kind of hooked. :|

...Really? Really?

...I don't even know, man. But it's FOX, and we all know how Fox deals with science fiction, amirite.

A vein in my left eyelid is spasming. It has been doing so for approx. 24 hours now and is really annoying. I googled it and just found a lot of advice to get more sleep (yeah, thanks, like I didn't already know my sleep patterns are inadequate but I CAN'T FIX THAT), drink less caffeine (hdu), and wait for it to go away on its own (...). You have failed me, Google.

I still need to watch this week's Being Human, but I don't want to do so while my eyelid is throbbing because I won't be able to pay the proper amount of attention. :( WAS IT EPIC? I BET IT WAS EPIC.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Torchwood - Jack/Tosh)
Have been spending absurd amounts of time hunting Doctor Who filming spoilers. I hate that we still have so long before we find out what kind of Doctor Matt Smith really will be. I'm excited about him.

My life continues to be boring. Job hunting, bah humbug.

I have, however, gotten caught up on Torchwood! spoilers, I guess, if anybody is even more behind than me )

Still have Psych, Pushing Daisies, Kings, and Dollhouse to get caught up on, but I'm getting closer! ...it's irritating how far behind I am in everything.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (The Black Donnellys - sarcasm)
Overheard: "So I was seriously scared that between how much I drank last night and how much I was sweating today that I'd walk out and hear some kid say, 'Mommy, why does Badger smell like Daddy?'"

During intermission for Twelfth Night tonight, Portland and I got on headset and started chanting the ASM's name in creepy whispers until she got on headset and yelled at us for being creepy. Then we started chanting the SM's name, until the ASM pointed out he wasn't on headset and so it was ineffective, so we started with one of the actors' names, and she pointed out that he never goes on headset ever, so we started with "We're bored" "Really bored" until the SM got on headset and then we chanted his name until he went "I'M GOING TO RUN AWAY IF YOU KEEP DOING THAT".

In our defense, we were really, really bored.

Also, I less than three my changeover crew. We finished tonight's changeover so fast omg. (Okay, so it was Twelfth -> Willows, which is our easiest changeover. Still. SO FAST.)

Also also, in a week I will be UNEMPLOYED. Unemployed, you guys. *sadfaces*

...non-work stuff? Um.

...I have a ridiculous amount of fandom consumption to get caught up on. I still haven't seen the last two episodes of Kings. Or all of Children Of Earth. Or the most recent episode of Psych. Or the two unaired episodes of Dollhouse. Or even the last episode of Pushing Daisies (which I am afraid to watch because then it will be really over omg). Also the tenth book of Everworld. And ARDU's rendition of "The Unknown".

I have all of these, I just haven't watched/read/listened to them yet. I'm so behind. It's tragic, really. Also, I maybe have too many fandom obsessions.

Icon meme!

Grabbed from [livejournal.com profile] kawaiispinel and [livejournal.com profile] allfireburns.

1. Reply to this post with 'Icons!', and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will - allegedly - create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

by [livejournal.com profile] nikiness

Once upon a time there was a [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes post that involved the phrase "We're having hot lesbian sex. And by lesbian sex we mean tea. But it's still hot." This amused a great many people and inspired a great many icons. Teh Niki and I were discussing it, and we were both amused by the phrase, and one or the other of us said, "It's totally about us! Except neither of us drinks tea!" So at some point in this conversation I suggested the substitution of cookies, and she made the icon, and lo, you have our relationship in a nutshell.
Also, the cookies are chocolate chip, if there was any doubt.

There's another story behind this one, and again it's weirdly convoluted. My first solid introduction to online fandom was the official X-Files message board, way back in the day when I was very young. I needed a screenname, thought about it for a while, and finally impulsively decided to name myself after Kristen Kilar, the vampire wannabe Mulder hooks up with in the second-season episode "3". Rather than actually try to register a variant of "KristenKilar" or the like, I called myself chicafrom3. The name stuck, and still does, as you've noticed. This icon's really nothing more or less than a nod to the origins of my screenname -- Mulder and his vampire love interest.

Yesterday I bought a new hat and a new scarf as part of my ongoing attempt to become the sort of person who wears hats and scarves. I would like to be the sort of person who wears hats and scarves, and every so often I buy new ones (or am gifted new ones) and start trying again.

But the sad fact is that so far I have totally failed at being that sort of person. There is an art, or possibly a knack, to wearing hats and scarves, a knack that I do not possess. I keep trying to teach myself this knack, but it has so far not worked. Maybe this time it will work? If anyone has any tips on how to become the sort of person who wears hats and scarves, feel free to share advice.

I also bought a lot of other things. Next Sunday is the end of the Busch Gardens season, so I went in early yesterday and abused my employee discount buying things. Since I barely used it this summer, except occasionally to buy myself a meal when I didn't want to go to the EBAs.

Anyway. Happy-making fandom-related things:

Pictures of the Torchwood gang at the Hub convention. THEY'RE ALL SO PRETTY, and how happy am I to see Kai so well represented in the pics? Why can't I live somewhere or have the kind of money that I could go to events like this?

New SJA to watch!! I am very excited about this. I'm liking Rani a good bit although her name throws me off and I am still missing her predecessor a lot. A lot a lot.

I now own an official [title of show] shirt and poster. Which make me almost happy enough to forget momentarily that Broadway was stupid enough not to give them a long, long run at the Lyceum.

In other [tos] news: click me!

I have been binging on M*A*S*H episodes recently. Why? Because I like to. The show was a major part of my childhood, and it remains completely awesome as I grow up. (Although I have difficulty watching the really old episodes with the relentless laugh tracks. I know when to laugh at their jokes on my own, kthnx.)

...I feel like I had more things to say, but I don't remember what they were, so here, have a bunny suicide.

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than twenty icons, post them all. If you have between twenty and fifty icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, and what significance it has.

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

[livejournal.com profile] morgeil asked me about:

speculative fiction -- or, in other words, science fiction, fantasy, alternate histories, horror, superhero fiction, and all that other awesome stuff. The kind of fiction that asks "what if?" I've always been fascinated by this, in a way I tend to sum up as "I'd like some escapism in my escapism pls" although that doesn't do the full awesomeness of the genre any justice at all.

chess -- the musical, not the game. Not that I don't like the game, I do, although I'm not very good at it. But no, I love the musical much more. It's my favorite musical, I collect it obsessively, I'm in love with all the characters and the music and the utterly cractastick nature of the seventeen million different scripts. (Sydney Chess? CRACKIEST THING EVER.)

catholicism -- I was raised Catholic, I went to a Catholic college, I still identify as Catholic even though I kind of fail at the going-to-mass thing and don't actually recall when I last went to confession. I'm very interested in the history of the Church and doctrine and the way things have changed and how spirituality and religion differ from each other.

crack pairings -- a good portion of my fannish love comes from shipping pairings that make no logical sense, the "you'd have to be on crack to see it" kind of pairings. Like Michael/Shannon (LOST). Or Ignatius/Maru (Andromeda). Or Babs/Martha/Tosh (Doctor Who). Or Kevin/cereal/sandwich/jacket (Black Donnellys). I could go on for a while but I'll shut up. I do, in point of fact, ship based on personalities and possibility as much as chemistry, so it's very easy for me to go from "these two characters have such and such in common" or "huh, you know, this canon relationship could be seen as a parallel for this other totally untouched-upon and cracky pairing" or "hi, awesome and hot characters who are not appreciated enough" or "wow, he has amazing chemistry with inanimate objects" to "OMGLOVESHIPPINGTHISNOW".

theme parks -- I work for one. Yes, it's just that simple.

nipple erectors -- notable for being Shane MacGowan's first band (and we all know how I love my Shaney Mac) as well as having the hit single "Gabrielle" and only one officially-released album. They recently had a reunion concert with Shane! I wish I'd been there. :(

bad movies -- the campier and worse the writing and special effects, the better. This specifically refers to the sci-fi/horror/Bruce Campbell end of the spectrum although I can on occasion be persuaded to particularly bad examples of other genres. Fun on both the "point and mock" level and the "I could do this better!" level. And usually full of comedy gold.

And another meme from a few different folks on my flist:

Name any character from any of my fandoms and I'll tell you...

(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon
(b) a reason he/she sucks
(c) a reason he/she is awesome
(d) five things that never happened to that character and/or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and why
