AWESOME THINGS:

- I have Internet back! WOO! And LJ is also back! Also woo! Stop leaving me, Internet access and LJ! I have dependencies!

- I now own a full-length black duster. We will not discuss the fact that it is early August, regularly reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and also southern Virginia. The point is that I now own a full-length black duster and this makes me happy even if I can't wear it for a few more months. (It was $15 at a CHKD thrift store. I can't resist that, okay.)

- New Doctor Who trailer! It is almost the same as the ComiCon trailer but not exactly and those not exactly bits are EXCITING and AWESOME. PTERODACTYLS, MAN.

- I received a $25 B&N gift card from my Secret Santa for my place of employment's Christmas In August thing. NEW BOOKS! Now I just have to find time and a bus route to get to a Barnes & Noble!

- *meaningless flail*

This morning I got Unexpected!Rew which was awesome. He and his fiancée are driving up from Florida to Maine and decided to make a stop in Williamsburg to see me. YAY. :D I had to work, so we went out to breakfast beforehand and then they dropped me off at the park. I wish I got to spend more time with them. They said they might be able to drop by and see me again on their way back nearer the end of the summer.

~

It's looking like starting next week they're going to switch my regular days off from Saturday/Sunday to Wednesday/Saturday. On the one hand, having two days off in a row is nice; on the other hand, having the week broken down into two manageable chunks will also be nice. I think I'm okay with the switch, but we'll see how it actually plays out once I'm on that schedule.

~

On the grounds that I've missed, like, a month doing this meme, I'm just going to go ahead and do the last two at the same time. Under the cut to spare your flists.

So I watched The Rebel Flesh again today! And having now seen it while properly conscious, I think... I need to see the second half of this story before I can say whether I like it or not. I love the Rory storyline, though. Rorrrry. And it raises lots of interesting questions and storylines. But whether it resolves those questions/storylines satisfactorily remains to be seen.

~~

So yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the end of LOST. I'm a bit shocked by that. It can't possibly have been a year, can it?

I miss my mindfuck-y show and all its pretty people. :( What are Emilie de Ravin, Henry Ian Cusick, and all the rest of that pretty, pretty cast up to these days?

~~

28. Sung by the musical character that's so bad/cruel/evil (etc.) you love them OR Sung by the musical character you love to hate.

"Dentist", Little Shop Of Horrors. A rather fascinating fictional jackass.

I...am exhausted. I am looking forward to when my schedule becomes predictable and I get into a groove. Or whatever.

26. Sung by the character in a musical you can most relate to.

"It Won't Be Long Now", In The Heights. Could be my theme song. One day, I'm hopping that elevated train and I'm riding away!
Alternately, "Where I Want To Be" from Chess, which I already used for this meme here.

25. Which is your current favourite.

"The Saddest Song", Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
So we'll ruin the banks
And we'll cripple the courts
And we'll take on the world for America's sake
And we'll take all the land
And we'll take back the country
And we'll take, and we'll take, and we'll take and we'll take

Moved in. Not much more to say about it at this point, except that I'm exhausted and will probably go to bed early.

24. Which makes you laugh.

"We Are The Altar Boyz", Altar Boyz. This whole show is amazing and hilarious.

Okay, so, aside from my laptop and assorted small things I will need tonight and tomorrow morning, I'm all packed, I think? Tomorrow I'm moving into a hostel room in Williamsburg, Tuesday I'm planning to spend checking the bus route between the hostel and the park and getting a feel for that, Wednesday is my Orientation, and then I am officially employed and whatever.

I'm nervous. Is that at all obvious?

23. From the musical which everyone should see performed live.

"Housewares Employee", Evil Dead: The Musical. And when you go see it performed live, make sure you're sitting in the splatter zone.
That was an amazing night, I have to tell you.

22. From the musical you wish was (never) made into a movie.

Wish was: "Sometime, Do You Think We Could Fall In Love?", Zanna Don't! This could be such a fun, frothy, brightly-colored movie with a message. IT COULD BE AWESOME. :(

Wish was never: "Out Tonight", RENT. Probably there was a good way of making RENT into a movie. But that wasn't it. (It probably would have involved not casting most of the OBC. I love the OBC, but by the time making the movie rolled around they were all entirely too old for their parts.)

21. Which inspires you.

"I'm Not That Smart (Reprise)", The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. I think...no, no, no...I know I'm smart!

I feel the need to share this with you all.

My The Swamp Thing read has brought me to the infamous hallucinogenic plant sex scene, and all I can say is: Oh my god. I am so glad I never particularly liked yams to begin with.

Abby, you have terrible taste in men, WTF. It worries me that you don't realize this.

20. From your 'guilty pleasure' musical.

"Once Upon A Time", Brooklyn the Musical. I have no apologies to offer. I just love it in all its derivative, sappy, sentimental glory.
(I was going to put "Christmas Makes Me Cry" here because it's my favorite song from Brooklyn, but I couldn't find it on YouTube. Sorry. *sadface*)

19. From a musical which disappointed you.

"21 Guns", American Idiot. I think a good, interesting musical could actually have been built around the American Idiot album. Sadly, this show is not it. But it has nice orchestrations of pop-punk songs!

I may potentially have a roommate. Now we just need to find a place to live. Think good thoughts for us?

I really wish this was way less last-minute than it is. :|

18. With the best lyrics.

"Hey #3/Perfect For You (Reprise), Next To Normal
So you could go crazy
Or I could go crazy
It's true
Sometimes life isn't sane
But crazy I know I can do
'Cause crazy is perfect
And fucked up is perfect
SO I will be perfect...
(Perfect...)
Perfect for you...

This thread makes me want to see a Darths & Droids or DM Of The Rings -style webcomic based on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic so badly. I am being completely serious here, I think it would be amaaaazing.

There's also this thread, which works on the same principle but uses a different RPG system.

17. With the best music.

I am not a good judge of this, okay? I have minimal music training. But I'll offer up "You Could Drive A Person Crazy", Company. I love the music here.

Happy Star Wars Day!

16. From your least favourite musical, by your favourite composer.

"A Boy Like That", West Side Story. Anita is the only interesting character, it has the least threatening gangs ever, and the love story is just as unconvincing as the source material plus Maria doesn't even die at the end.
On the plus side, this version is sung by Karen Olivo, who as we've established I love to ridiculous degrees.

Does anyone know regular expressions well enough to put together a BrosweScraper cbw file? I've been trying to make a working cbw file of Antihero For Hire but I can't figure out how to code it to find the next comic without manually listing the whole thing one strip at a time. Which will take forever.

Help?

15. By your favourite musical composer.

"Another Hundred People", Company. Stephen Sondheim = ♥ [/predictable]

Today I watched the 1988 Tony Awards. Why? I don't know. Don't ask me things like that. Maybe because this year's Tony noms are coming up tomorrow? (Speaking of: the fact that there's only two shows eligible for Best Revival Of A Musical makes me really sad. Am I alone in that?)

Anyway, the main thing I took away from the '88 Tonys is that I'm really glad I was four when the 80s ended because people in that decade had terrible, terrible fashion. WTF are those clothes. o.0

14. From the musical you haven't listened to (or seen) in a while.

"The Bride's Lament", The Drowsy Chaperone. I really should get on that, because I love this show and all its ridiculousness.

So my The Swamp Thing read has finally brought Matt and Abby back into the storyline. Cheers! They're starting to get properly dysfunctional, too. And I still ship them. I don't know why that is.

I kind of want to read fic about everything that happened to Matt and Abby in between them disappearing from the storyline in volume 1 and reappearing in volume 2. Sadly, no one writes Swamp Thing comicverse fic. (I don't know if they write fic for other incarnations of Swamp Thing, but much searching has turned up no comicverse stuff.)

The endless recapping and footnoting is still driving me crazy, though.

13. From the musical you loved from hearing the first note.

"I'm Not That Guy", Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. ...basically I started listening to this show and immediately went "OMFG how have I lived so long without you and Benjamin Walker's sexypants, show?"
And then not all that long after that, I read the closing announcement. Because Broadway hates me and everything I love.

I AM STILL FULL OF SQUEE AND FLAIL OVER DOCTOR WHO AND ABOUT TO CONDUCT A REWATCH.

But anyway, meme!

12. You could listen to all day.

"La Vie Boheme A", RENT. TO BEING AN US FOR ONCE, INSTEAD OF A THEM!

11. From the musical which made the most impact on you.

"Where I Want To Be", Chess. This particular number has pretty much been my theme song at various points in my life. Past that, well, there's a reason this show is my favorite musical (many reasons, actually) -- it just, it resonates with me on a number of levels. You know? I'm a little nonverbal today, sorry.

My boring lack of a life continues to leave me with nothing to talk about here. [/fail]

10. From your least favourite musical.

There are several candidates tied for this one, so I picked one more or less at random: "Memory", Cats. How dare you do that to TS Eliot, ALW. How very dare you.

Yeah, so I'm an Eliot fan and not so enthused by Webber.
