chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (misc: frustrated)
I'm listening to the demo for A Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder and oh my God Raul Esparza singing "It's Better With A Man" is my new favorite thing.

Also it's been twenty days since I last posted anything, so, uh. I suck. Total fail. I have no excuse except that I've had nothing to talk about except self-hatred and nobody wants to hear that, so. Sorry. I have also been failing at commenting. Trying to get better. Mid-year resolution?
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (t: [tos]: unwelcome)
Hello, LJ! Sorry for going MIA this weekend. But I spent it with my Nikiness, who really needs to make more time for me in her schedule, so. Things happened.

Also I spent today making sugary food to send to my no-longer-baby brother in California.

Also today I got my copy of the Now. Here. This. cast recording in the mail! \o/ So once I've had the chance to listen to that, expect gushing of some sort.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: r: stands alone)
Someone send me some motivation. It doesn't have to be for anything specific, just motivation in general.

Please?
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: dw: 2/zoe)
So I've pretty much completely lost the thread of posting every day. I'm sorry! I will try to get back to that! NaNoWriMo's been beating me rather than the other way around; as of last night I've officially given up on this story and gone full rebel; I'm just going to try to write 50K of fiction by the end of the month and if it's not all in the same story, too bad.

Note to self: Don't attempt do to NaNo three times in one year ever again.

So that should at least kill most of the NaNo whining, hopefully.

Tomorrow is American Thanksgiving! Which means delicious food and Broadway shows performing in parades! Happy Thanksgiving if you happen to celebrate it, happy November 22nd otherwise!
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (t: c: heaven help my heart)
So, uh, yesterday's post-of-actual-content didn't happen. Sorry about that; I wound up crashing out early.

On the plus side, the upward trend of feeling better continues. If the rate of improvement stays steady I should feel legit healthy by Monday? Maybe?

Mostly I'm now annoyed at myself because I missed the [livejournal.com profile] talking_chess livestream/party. I was looking forward to that. :|
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (b: ew: wte)
I missed updating yesterday, and I'm annoyed at myself for that, but since I spent most of yesterday in utter misery I'm going to give myself a pass. (I hate being sick. In good news, I feel better today; not good, but better.)

This week has basically been a wash, accomplishment-wise, which also annoys me. I'm behind in my programming class, and I'm also behind on TV (I'm actually two weeks behind on Castle, and I've also missed this week's Elementary and the new Red Dwarf. I have them all and am going to watch them but I can't promise when that will happen).

Less blah post coming later today, I hope.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: dw: ace)
Ughh, I don't know why I suck at updating LJ, but apparently I do.

This is mostly an RL post, so feel free to scroll past.

not as much whining as most of my RL posts )

Wish me luck?

(I am also, at some point, going to resume my Great Doctor Who EDA read, and tackle another TV show from my Shows I Haven't Yet Watched list, and, you know, try to write fic again, but I'm putting those projects off until I have more fannish energy.)
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: a: beka)
So I've been pretty terrible about updating my LJ. I'm sorry. I blame Camp NaNo. (Also, deciding to do three incarnations of NaNoWriMo in one year was ... not the smartest decision I ever made.) On the plus side, I hit 50K on Better Than It Sounds tonight, so maybe I'll be able to pay more attention to my LJ now!

(Better Than It Sounds, despite having hit 50K, has not reached the end. I don't actually feel that bad about it this time because I'm not sure the BTIS 'verse has a definite ending point.)

Anyway, other things that are going on:

* It looks like SyFy is picking up Continuum for an early 2013 airing. Woo! So Americans who haven't seen it yet you will have no more excuses I expect you to watch the awesome time-travelling-cop show. Lexa Doig plays a terrorist, if you need encouragement.

* In continued Andromeda alumnae news, Lisa Ryder is going to guest star on Alphas, hell yeah! So excited. I continue to love Alphas more and more with each episode. (And continue to wish they could get Summer Glau on as a regular that would be awesome.)

* Probably everybody already knows about this, but just in case: BBC is posting "Pond Life" minisodes online as a teaser leading into Asylum Of The Daleks (only four days away omg omg omg) and they're adorable. I will pretty much never get over Eleven laying down some backing vocals. That is a thing that exists in the world.

* No link for this one, but Once Upon A Time promos have started airing! So excited for Emilie as a regular + Mulan, Aurora, Captain Hook, and ... um, everybody they've announced, really, but those are the three that have me REALLY REALLY EXCITED. Although Emilie as a series regular beats it all. EMILIE AS A SERIES REGULAR.

* I swear there was other stuff I wanted to talk about but I don't remember what any of it was. :/
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: ms: drummers are cool)
Do you ever get into that state of mind where the longer you put something off the harder it is to motivate yourself to do it? Yeah. Sorry about that.

I'll try to put up a 100things post later tonight, because for the life of me I can't think of anything with actual content to post about right now.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (t: o: the girl)
▼ First off, new LJ header/theme! I wanted to do an entire new layout, but then couldn't find one I liked, so in the end I stuck with the old one with a new header. But it's there, anyway.

▼ On the job hunting front, I still do not have a job. I do however have an interview on Tuesday, and I unexpectedly had an interview today, so that's something.

▼ My little brother on the other hand has his college graduation this week and then he's flying to California for a job that pays about $100K per year as a starting salary. Not that I'm blindingly jealous or feeling like a failure in comparison or anything...

▼ Apparently I'm doing Camp Nanowrimo this year. I'm not entirely sure why; I don't even have a clear concept in mind, much less a story. All I've got so far is "It might be cool to try to write high fantasy for once", and that's ... virtually nothing. So there may be meltdown posts come June. You've been warned.

▼ I'll put up another 100 Things post sometime tonight.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (m: o: making music)
I'm really frustrated by the fact that I continue to have nothing to talk about, but, um, I continue to have nothing to talk about. :| So here's my, what, every-other-week post?

Um. I've started reading The Hunger Games because I need to continue my trend of only picking up popular media well after everyone else in the world. I'm enjoying it so far, so, yay?

The cast recording for Once has officially been released, and it is brilliant, and you should all go listen to and buy it now. I can't stop listening to "Sleeping". It's all just different enough from Glen and Mar's versions to make it Their Own while still being faithful to the source and I love it. I desperately want to get to New York and see this show live. (Um, how many times have you heard me say that about different shows? WELL I MEAN IT about all of them but especially this one do really well on Broadway please Once.)

I've been watching Smash? I don't know if I'd mentioned that before. But I've been watching it, and enjoying it in a cheesy melodrama sort of way. Megan Hilty = ♥, of course. I spend large portions of each episode wondering why I'm supposed to be rooting for Karen, who apparently believes that ensemble work is beneath her and acts completely unprofessional ninety percent of the time. And then there's singing! :D

The new season of Being Human is holding my attention more than I thought it would! Which, you know, I should have expected, since it's Being Human. But my brain was going "NO MITCHELL, NO GEORGE, NO NINA :(" and making sadfaces all over the place and not expecting to be drawn in as much. But I am! Hal and Tom are both lovely and Annie continues to be her fab self. Yay, show, you survived a major cast change few shows would be able to survive.

This feels like an awkward note to end a post on, but I can't think of anything else, so, uh, yes.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: a: beka)

Okay, so, yeah, I fail at LJ recently. I'm sorry. Eventually I will get used to this new schedule and be able to get online more often or more efficiently or more ... something.

Happy Beka Day!

In fannish news, I am way behind in everything due to poor time management and bad sleeping patterns, but I'm getting caught up. Slowly, but getting there. In happy news, Emilie de Ravin on Once Upon A Time was pretty awesome, wasn't she? I love her and everything that episode chose to be. In less happy news, I think I'm going to drop Alcatraz. I love Jorge and I think it's an interesting concept but it's just not hooking me so far.

How's tricks?
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: p: gus&shawn)
Recursive: 40,209. So that's not going to badly.

I've shelved One Spared To The Sea for the time being. I don't know, something else might happen with it, but not at the moment.

In other news, Ion is having a marathon of old Psych episodes, so that's making me happy. ♥
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (m: od: ondine)
So I've kind of failed at LJ lately, haven't I? I'M SORRY. D: I blame work. Between being too tired to post, having no time to post, and having nothing but work to talk about in a post, I've sort of let journaling fall by the wayside. BECAUSE I SUCK.

Anyway, here's what's going on with teh Chica outside of work:

- Most notably, I just spent wayyy too much money ordering a Sony VAIO laptop + accessories. On the "well, this is a reasonable expense" side, it was all money I'd been setting aside all summer for the express purpose of eventually buying a nice computer, and while Sally is still good to me and I have no intention of permanently retiring her just yet, I do really want a new laptop. One that's actually portable; it is sort of a ridiculous production trying to take Sally anywhere.
On the other side, SHIT $1,600 ON ONE PURCHASE and I'm going to be unemployed two weeks from now and oh God I finalized the purchase less than twenty minutes ago and shopper's remorse is already setting in. Fail, self.

- Currently airing shows I am watching:

Merlin - technically caught up on; not actually paying terribly much attention to what's going on this season. IDK, it's not holding me anymore. This may be because of the hack job the writers did to ALL OF THEIR CHARACTERS (but especially Morgana dammit).

Psych - Woo, Psych is back! The heavy-handed Shawn/Juliet isn't making me enthuse but EVERYTHING ELSE IS. I can even excuse the awful polygraph "I love her" scene where everyone looks SHOCKED AND STUNNED BECAUSE OMG SHAWN LOVES JULES, because the whole plot was kicked off by Shawn and Gus trying to get a kid's Darth Vader action figure back. Oh yes.

Sarah Jane Adventures - I can't believe it's almost over. :/ I keep getting caught up in plots and character-glee and then all of a sudden Sarah will say something and my brain will stop dead and go "LIS :( :( :(". Yes, just like that.
In actual story-related reactions, I have no strong feelings about Sky except that her intro story is entirely too much like Luke's -- it's awkward and weird to do it that way. But CLYDE. Clyde, you are lovely and you should be the next Doctor Who Companion Doctor anything you want to be, Clyde my boy.

...is that all the currently-airing stuff I'm watching right now? That's kind of depressing.

- I have recently and unexpectedly fallen in love with the movie Ondine. There may be some form of pimp post in the future. Probably picspam because it is such a ridiculously pretty movie. So keep an eye out for that.

- NaNoWriMo is coming up! And because I have no willpower and teh Niki is an enabler, I'm evidently going to be trying to do two novels simultaneously this year. WHAT THE HELL, ME. One's a time-travel story about a guy who loses his memory, the other's a mythpunk story about a selkie and the half-evil sorcerer who steals her skin. Yeah. I don't know either.

What have I missed while I was away, LJ? I PROMISE TO LOVE YOU BETTER NOW.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: l: michael&walt&vincent)
So I kind of disappeared on you all. I'M SORRY! For rls, yo. But we moved into the new place on Sunday (and it is FANTASTIC and I love having a kitchen and actual rooms and omg yay) and we were supposed to get Internet installed on Monday but with one thing and another and Verizon cutting Cox's cables, we couldn't get our net access working until today. More specifically, just now. Damn, it feels good to have Internet back. ♥

I'm sorry!

I missed you guys!

chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (m: pb: inconceivable)
So, embarrassingly, I spent today's earthquake up in the employee break area, taking a nap. I had literally no idea anything had happened until my SM came up to the break area to inform me and my other napping coworkers that there had been an earthquake and we needed to check all our equipment to make sure everything was working as it should.

Yes, that's right, the first earthquake in Virginia in 100+ years and I slept through it.

No notable damage in the area, everyone's fine, etc. Hope all the East Coasters on my flist are the same. ♥
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (b: ng: cruel joke)
So I have deathplague! Deathplague here being my generic name for any illness that makes me feel hellish. I have no idea what the actual name of whatever I have is, I just know that it's messing with my lungs and throat and things connected to my sinuses.

Anyway, because I have a Work Ethic (and because I know that calling out would screw up everyone else's schedules in complicated ways) I went into work regardless. And I made it through, although many people were watching me with alarm at various points and halfway through the last show my voice gave out completely and the SM had to finish calling spot cues. But I made it. That's the important bit.

And because of that whole annoying Work Ethic thing, I'll wind up doing the same tomorrow, with or without voice. :/ But at least tomorrow I'll be a spot op and not ME, so I won't have to talk as much.

And now I'm going to drink a lot of orange juice and suck another cough drop and go to bed early.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: dw: 1/barbara)
So I kind of fail at LJ. I'm sorry! Work keeps changing my schedule around to make sure I have as little free time on as minimal notice as possible.

Things of note:
- I have acquired new Torchwood, which I plan to watch tonight after I call my parents and reassure them as well that I am not in fact dead. I am not at all sure how I feel about it. I miss Tosh. Is it going to make me miss Tosh more? :/
- I have also acquired (finally) new Flogging Molly, which I am very excited to listen to once I get the chance. I want to listen to the whole album in one straight shot, since it's reportedly a concept album that all ties together? But I'll probably wind up having to break it down into smaller chunks to fit into my schedule. Boo.
- I have been challenged to write Harper meta for [livejournal.com profile] andromeda_fans! I am debating topics now from among the list of rambling Harper-related topics that meander through my head regularly. It will probably wind up being about either Harper's relationship to 21st century America or Harper's role in the series as the Fool. I'm not sure yet.
- I think I've decided that I'm going to buy an Asus Eee netbook as my next major purchase, although I'm not sure when that will be. One of the guys I work with has one and I've kind of fallen in love with it. It's so little and portable and durable! And then I would be able to, like, write on buses and in restaurants and whatever.

In conclusion: HI LJ I MISSED YOU ♥
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (misc: great white way)
Disjointed liveblogging thoughts on the Tony Awards:

- I love and adore NPH, but he's really in danger of overexposure and I wish he'd scale it back a bit.

- We're headed for a Book Of Mormon sweep, it looks like. As expected, tbh. I'm still hoping Scottsboro Boys will get something to take home, though.

- The Catch Me If You Can performance was fun. Which is good, because it's a fun show! They probably should've picked something that showcased Aaron more. (The fact that Frank Abagnale, Jr., was in the audience? DUDE. ♥ That earns you points, CMIYC.)

- SPIDERMAN: TURN OFF THE DARK JOKES WILL NEVER NOT BE FUNNY.

- The BoM sweep continues...

- It amuses me that they're just calling it 'The Mother With The Hat'. I get why they can't say the full name on CBS, but I was rather expecting them to star it out in the subtitles, not pretend like that's the actual name!

- SCOTTSBORO BOYS! I'm so sad you closed. But yay, tour! I hadn't heard about that.
-- Please let this show take something home tonight, Broadway gods? Please?

- "I tried to write a speech but I felt silly." Oh, Nikki M. James. I suspect you'll be the BoM win I'm happiest about tonight. You're ADORABLE, I'm so glad you got to go up there and cry. "They're saying wrap it up but I WILL NOT LEAVE THIS STAGE."

- And now we get a performance from the show taking home most of tonight's statues. Oh, hey, they're doing my favorite number from the show! That earns you a couple points, BoM. Not enough to totally make up for beating out TSB, which I will continue to resent you for, but a couple points.

- Man, my prediction sheet is not doing very well. I've gotten a few right, but not many.

- Hee, Hugh Jackman and NPH are adorable together. "Stick to your sitcoms, stick to your situation comedies..." I give Hugh the win on the ACL dance sequence but NPH gets points for the Make 'Em Laugh riff.

- And then there's Brooke Shields. Hey, does anyone know what's going on with Leap Of Faith? Gossip welcomed.

- The sound keeps cutting out for me. Is this a problem with the broadcast or my local channel?

- Daniel Radcliffe still looks so young to me. Is this a problem for Harry Potter fans or just people who only see him once in a while like me?

- "Used to be famous for being in U2..." "I just kind of assumed we'd been, um, nominated." "It appears that we missed the deadline. In rock and roll, you see, the deadline is just the lie your manager tells you to get you back on the bus." I desperately want this musical to close before someone dies, but at least they've got a sense of humor about it!
(Confession time: I never actually expected S:TOTD to reach opening night. I expected that they would keep pushing it back further and further until finally all the money ran out and they had to close. Without ever opening. Guess I was wrong!)

- Oh, Jenn Damiano. You're too good for this mess.

- Can I just mention how sad I am that BBAJ doesn't get to perform tonight? I would really have loved to have seen Ben Walker and his tight tight sexypants and his eyeliner all rocking out the Tony Awards together.

- See, I'd resigned myself to BBAJ not winning Best Book, though I really wanted it, but if they had to lose couldn't it have been to Scottsboro Boys? I'm trying really hard not to resent you your sweep, BoM, because it's really not unexpected at all and I get it, but YOU'RE MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT.
-- I suspect Scenic Design (Musical) will make me cry. I just have a lot of ~feelings about my favorite shows, okay?

- Sister Act! I know nothing about you. I mean, I've seen the movie(s), but I know nothing about the stage show except that it's based on the first movie. Anyone familiar with it? Is it good? Should I look into it? It looks fun, based on this performance.

- I knew The Normal Heart would take home Best Play Revival! I'm very happy about this. You deserve it, Normal Heart. ♥♥

- I still have no interest to speak of in Memphis. Sorry.

- DAMN IT, BEST SCENIC DESIGN (MUSICAL). I WASN'T ASKING FOR VERY MUCH.
-- NOW I'M GOING TO GO SULK AND POSSIBLY KICK SOMETHING. I TAKE BACK ALL MY GOODWILL, BoM. I'M NOW VERY MAD AT YOU.

- Okay, I'm back.

- Yay, a performance from Anything Goes! Perhaps this will distract me from the crushing disappointment of Scenic Design (Musical). Cole Porter and his ridiculous plots are ♥
-- "The awesome Sutton Foster" INDEED. ♥
-- This tap dance break is pretty much the best thing ever. [/Sutton fangirl]

- Another awesome performance -- the Philharmonic cast of Company. It doesn't beat the Broadway revival cast -- I mean, RAUL -- but it's still an amazing cast. And an amazing performance.

- I may never stop LOLing about there only being two shows qualified to be nominated for Best Revival (Musical). But YAY, Anything Goes won! ...I like it when shows I'm rooting for win. It doesn't happen often enough.
-- Hey, this means I got both the revival categories right. Huh.

- ...and now I'm sad for reasons the awards team actually intended. People need to stop dying or something, IDK.

- Now they're broadcasting a clip of the acceptance speech for Scenic Design (Musical) and I'm bitter all over again. Thanks, Tonys. Thanks a lot. :/

- Sutton Foster wins Leading Actress (Musical)! I am both extremely happy and completely unsurprised!

- Another fun performance, this time from Priscilla. ♥ I love the costumes. They definitely deserved that award.

- ARE YOU KIDDING ME, ARE YOU SERIOUSLY EXPECTING ME TO BELIEVE THAT SCOTTSBORO BOYS DOESN'T TAKE ANYTHING HOME TONIGHT, WHAT THE HELL

- I MEAN I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST YOU, NORBERT LEO BUTZ, AND YOU'RE VERY GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO BUT WHAT THE HELL THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN JOSHUA HENRY'S STATUE

- I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS

- The sad thing is I would probably be slightly bitter about Joshua losing but happy for Norbert, if only The Scottsboro Boys had won anything else tonight. I know there's still Best Musical to go, but I'd put money on BoM winning, the way this night has gone.

- There, you see? YOU SEE?

- Now I'm going to go off and be bitter about TSB being snubbed. Well, actually, I'm going to watch the closing because I've been promised that the send-off will be worth watching. But then I'm going to go off and be bitter about TSB being snubbed.

- Is ... is NPH rapping? OH MY GOD.

(Final prediction tally: 17 categories wrong, 9 categories right.)
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (m: ed: big damn hero)
Okay, so, aside from my laptop and assorted small things I will need tonight and tomorrow morning, I'm all packed, I think? Tomorrow I'm moving into a hostel room in Williamsburg, Tuesday I'm planning to spend checking the bus route between the hostel and the park and getting a feel for that, Wednesday is my Orientation, and then I am officially employed and whatever.

I'm nervous. Is that at all obvious?

23. From the musical which everyone should see performed live.

"Housewares Employee", Evil Dead: The Musical. And when you go see it performed live, make sure you're sitting in the splatter zone.
That was an amazing night, I have to tell you.
