Hello, LJ! Sorry for going MIA this weekend. But I spent it with my Nikiness, who really needs to make more time for me in her schedule, so. Things happened.

Also I spent today making sugary food to send to my no-longer-baby brother in California.

Also today I got my copy of the Now. Here. This. cast recording in the mail! \o/ So once I've had the chance to listen to that, expect gushing of some sort.

Made my first batch of fudge of the season! Now it really feels like fall.

(It's peanut butter fudge, and it's delicious.)

(Now the weather just needs to settle into being properly cold... I'd even take consistently cool... )

I spent today with teh Niki. Who is awesomesauce incarnate. Trufax.

I collect musical theatre recordings.

(That totally counts as a hobby, right? Collecting stuff?)

I have ~50 recordings of Chess. Possibly this is a warning sign of either a hoarder or an obsessive personality.


Day 21 &hearts A recipe

Triple Chocolate Brownie Cookies

Ingredients:
3/4 c. butter, cubed
4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. baking cocoa
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. semisweet chocolate chips, divided
2 tsp. shortening

Directions:
In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter and unsweetened chocolate; cool. Transfer to a large mixing bowl; add sugar and eggs. Beat until smooth.

Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually add to chocolate mixture. Stir in 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or until easy to handle. (This is important! Your dough will be more like brownie batter before you chill it--it's okay, it'll firm up in the fridge.)

Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 7-9 minutes or until edges are set and tops are slightly cracked. Cool for 2 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely.

In a microwave-safe bowl, heat shortening and remaining chocolate chips on high for 1 minute or until chips are melted; stir until smooth. Drizzle over cookies. Let stand 30 minutes or until chocolate is set. Store in an airtight container. Yield: 6 dozen.

The little brother got New Super Mario Brothers Wii, and is now camped out in front of the older sister's TV playing it. Older sister and I both tried our hands at it...I am particularly Not Good, but it was fun. And he is definitely enjoying it.

And there is spinach artichoke dip and tortilla chips to get us through until dinner is ready.

I have decided that I am going to take up a self-improvement project. Specifically, I am going to teach myself how to Bake Things And Possibly Expand Into Proper Cooking. (Fudge does not count as no actual baking is involved, just melting and stirring things. ...cakes and brownies from mixes also do not count.)

I have been going back through fandom_wank's "recipes in comments" tag and copying recipes I think I could feasibly manage. And if anyone has any good recipes for a beginner or recommendations for places to find them, please share!

One day I will be like a fully-functional adult who can feed herself and everything. ;)

Today I:

- made a cake. It is currently in the oven, baking. I am very happy about this as it means I get cake.
- redid my resume and now have people looking it over before I send it off into the get-me-a-decent-job ether.
- received "tick tick...BOOM!" and the Dresden Files graphic novel in the mail.

And very little else. I lead an exceedingly dull live.



Anyway, despite the brief excitement in DW fandom over causing drama due to the casting announcement, pretty much all my fandoms are currently in hiatus and I'm kind of going into fannish withdrawal. So: recs, pretty please? Fics, vids, shiny graphics, whatever -- any of my fandoms. And that's an awful lot to choose from. Just rec me fannish stuff!

(Also, exciting only to my bizarrely warped mind: the list of songs in my iTunes library that has a playcount of less than one is now under 7 gigs! I'm getting closer to my goal of having a recorded listen of at least once for all my music!)
