Merry Christmas!!!

From my parents, I got three Discworld books (The Last Continent, Pyramids, and Carpe Jugulum), Pushing Daisies S2 on DVD, Doctor Who: The War Games on DVD, The Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" on CD, Dropkick Murphys' "Live On St. Patrick's Day" on CD, a nifty red-and-black fedora, and a new set of pajamas. Woohoo!

The big sister got me a cookbook of cookie recipes and an apron that says "Cookie Maker", it's really cute, omg.

The little brother bought me a Nintendo DS Lite. (!!!) I can't really do anything with her yet because I have no games but I'm already in love. She's red, and shiny, and pretty, and I have named her Amy.

The little brother got New Super Mario Brothers Wii, and is now camped out in front of the older sister's TV playing it. Older sister and I both tried our hands at it...I am particularly Not Good, but it was fun. And he is definitely enjoying it.

And there is spinach artichoke dip and tortilla chips to get us through until dinner is ready.

All in all, good day. ♥

Hope everyone else is also having a great day, regardless of what you do or don't celebrate!

You liked EoT, I take it. ;) I haven't had a chance to watch it yet!

Aw, that apron sounds so cute. You're not the only person I know who really wanted an apron this year. Funny.

I actually played Wii for the first time ever. Bowling. It was surprisingly fun. I'm not really in to video games so that was the surprising part.

Happy Christmas to you, sweetie, glad you had a great day!

It's completely adorable and I love it. ♥

Wii Bowling is pretty fun! I like the Wii because a lot of the games aren't really traditional video games. (Like, for example, bowling. Which you can do via traditional video game, but in a vastly different way than the Wii handles it, if that sentence parses at all.)

Hope your day was wonderful! ♥

Ooh, Discworld! I have most of the series but I haven't read all of them yet.

My DS is black, which was a bad decision on my part (it was my birthday present last year but I picked it out), as I can't touch it without getting fingerprints on it, and I hate fingerprints XP

You're going to have to update your list when you get my present XD I hope you get it soon!

I love Discworld. My collection is growing nicely, which makes me happy. XD

Fingerprints are the bane of every tech user. :/ They need to invent a casing for electronics that is still shiny and pretty but doesn't show fingerprints like mad.

Your present beat me home! I put up a picture. It's not very good. But THANK YOU I LOVE IT IT'S SO ADORABLE ♥♥♥♥

I'm only missing three of the Discworld books, except for the YA ones... so I guess I'm missing seven. XP Thus far I like Rincewind's books best, but I liked Pyramids, and I like the witches, and the watch, and Moist... okay, I like them all. My favourite character of all is Vetinari, though. He never ceases to be awesome.

If they made a shiny, fingerprint-proof tech casing, the universe would have to be replaced by something more complicated.

Yay I'm glad you love it! <3

I think the Watch books are generally my favorite, but I adore Rincewind and Moist an awful lot and I am learning to adore the witches. (I haven't read very many witches books yet.)

Vetinari is everybody's favorite character, man. Wasn't there a metaquotes vaguely recently to the effect of "if a Discworld fan says their favorite character is someone other than Vetinari, then it should be understood they meant 'favorite after Vetinari'"? Something like that. VETINARI. HE'S AWESOME.

It was the locks on the inside of Vetinari's dungeon that really made me realise it. And preferring to read music as opposed to listening to it, as the sweat and saliva involved in it being played by people is distasteful. And the clock in his waiting room. And his legalising the guilds because actually eliminating crime is not feasible, so at least it's organised now.

I'm also quite fond of the wizards at the university and the rapid succession of Archchancellors (pre-Ridcully, of course), and their pretension. XP

It might be obvious by now that I enjoy the politics of the Discworld, particularly Ankh-Morpork.

Oh, and Pratchett had chosen Alan Rickman as the ideal actor for Vetinari.

As for the witches, I like Granny Weatherwax's 'headology' and how all of the witches are so different. And flying on a broomstick is generally impractical, because it's a rather cold way to travel.

Guards, Guards! was one of the first Discworld books I ever read, and, aww, that scene in the dungeon with Vimes and Vetinari...first that Vetinari reconstructed his power base with rats (and arranged for the rats to beat out the scorpions and snakes!!!) and then the moment when Vimes realizes that Vetinari arranged for all the locks to be all on the inside...that was such an awesome moment. I fell irrevocably in love with Vetinari then. ♥ And then basically every other scene I've ever read with him in it just made it better.

After Vetinari, my favorite character is probably one of the Times staff, or maybe all three members of the Times staff. I kind of love them a lot. Although to be honest I love all the main Discworld characters a lot. (And there are so many awesome women in Discworld, which makes such a great change from so much genre fiction where there's...maybe or one two awesome women per series.)

The politics of Ankh-Morpork are fascinating. like, reading Night Watch and seeing how much the politics have changed since Vetinari took charge and organized the Guilds and just make everything work, to the degree where people might hate him and call him a tyrant but they have to acknowledge that life with Vetinari is massively preferable to life without.

I loved that moment when Vimes realises the locks are on the inside. Especially since it was so delayed... the locks had described earlier. It was like an anvil moment. XP And getting the loyalty of the rats... it's really just so... so... I don't know. Amazing. XP

Have you read Pyramids before you got it? I really liked Ptraci. (Though I really like Teppic, too, and that whole novel, so pointing out Ptraci as an awesome female character maybe is just pointing out one part of the general awesome?)

Dude, the Patrician before Vetinari was called Mad Lord Snapcase (and the previous was the Homocidal Lord Winder), so the bar for being better than his predecessor is quite low. Though he has organised it so that Ankh-Morpork is better off with him than without.

I am also thrilled that there is a department of the government whose purpose is ensuring all figures of speech are based in fact. (And Vetinari's reason for keeping this department open, of course.) I would seek that sort of employment.

I haven't read Pyramids yet, no. (It's next on my list! I finished The Last Continent, and I'm almost done with Carpe Jugulum now, so Pyramids is next. I am excited about it.) THREE CHEERS FOR AWESOME FEMALE CHARACTERS, though.

Have you seen any of the Discworld fic for this year's Yuletide? Some of it is completely fantastic and heavily focused on the Awesome Female Characters.

^_^ I know you will enjoy Pyramids... I should re-read it. XP I'm reading Moving Pictures right now. I've read all of them up to that, as well as Going Postal. I haven't read The Last Continent or Carpe Jugulum yet. I'm going in order.

And I haven't seen any of the fic. I've only read a couple of Discworld stories (including one about Ptraci for LGBT-fest).

I haven't been reading in anything like order. ^_^ I probably should do. Sometime. But I basically jump around to whichever books look interesting at the moment.

(You have some of my favorites ahead of you, though! The Truth and Monstrous Regiment especially. But all the ones I've read are awesome.)

The fics are here, although I think a lot/most of them involve characters you haven't reached yet, so, uh, that's a bit backhanded, I'm sorry.

I did read that Ptraci fic! Which is one of the reasons I've been jonesing to pick up Pyramids because just from that fic she seemed like a character I'd love.

I'm too OCD to read them out of order. Also I'm worried I'd miss something if I didn't read them in order (I read Going Postal out of order because a friend said it was his favourite). I'm worried I've missed a lot anyway... dammit now I feel like I should reread up to where I've gotten! But I know I have lots of awesome to look forward to.

I shall bookmark that link and go read them later. ^_^

You will. Honestly the awesome of Pyramids...
