I AM STILL FULL OF SQUEE AND FLAIL OVER DOCTOR WHO AND ABOUT TO CONDUCT A REWATCH.

But anyway, meme!

12. You could listen to all day.

"La Vie Boheme A", RENT. TO BEING AN US FOR ONCE, INSTEAD OF A THEM!

Day Four:
4. Demonstrating how overrated you think a musical is.

"Your Eyes", RENT; I do love RENT but srsly it's overrated. This song chosen on the grounds of the lyrics. Your EYES...as we SAID our goodBYES...can't get them OUT of my MIND...and I FIND...I can't HIDE...from YOUR EYES...

Evidently RENT may be being revived off-Broadway next year. Isn't it a little early to be launching a revival? I'm kind of worried that this production will tank specifically because it's too early for a revival and then producers will be shy of launching a revival down the road at a more reasonable time. IDK IDK. It might not actually be happening anyway.

Looking in to getting tickets for In The Heights when the tour comes to my neck of the backwoods in Friday. Wish me luck?

(Also: word count: 13,295 words, which is slightly behind my ideal goal for the night but I'm blocked and also well ahead on word count so I'm not too fussed.)
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Animorphs - RDU - that's what she said!)
Today I watched 'Pirate Radio' (proper title: 'The Boat That Rocked', but 'Pirate Radio' is what it's called here okay?) for the first time. (LOOK, I don't see movies when they first come out. It just doesn't happen.) Anyway, I enjoyed it. It was a good watch.

In unrelated news, what's the RENT fandom's opinion on David Driver as Roger? Is it that he's terrible? Tell me that everyone agrees he's terrible!

Day 29 ♥ Hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days

- Get a job. (I know I whine about this a lot, but it is seriously fairly important.)
- Spend more time in Boston. (This is always one of my goals.)
- WRITE. Finish something of length. 2010 NaNo is included in this.
- Be a better person.
- - Subgoal: Be a better friend.

...annnnd, that's the end of that meme, I guess.

...I might do the TV 30-day meme next. I haven't decided. Don't hold me to that.

...Neil Patrick Harris, ilu and all, but your casting for the Hollywood Bowl production of RENT has me going o.0 and WTF and IDEK.

o.0
WTF
IDEK

...yeah.

Day 02 ♥ Your favourite movie

Once

Here, have some music and low-quality clips

This is such a fantastic movie. Everyone should watch it. Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova sparkle; they have such a wonderful, low-key, intimate presence. The low-budget feel just adds to the sense that you're peeking in on these two lives. The script is awesome, the music is brilliant. And the ending is perfect. There is no other ending that would have worked half as well. Endings -- especially to romances -- tend to piss me off or irritate me, they are so rarely done right (especially in romances), but this is the Perfect Ending.

Also, THE MUSIC. <3

I love this movie an awful lot.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets is pissing me off tonight. :/ There was a RENT secret, and it inspired a host of annoying-to-me comments from people who've never seen the show or movie, people who've seen the show or movie once and apparently didn't absorb anything beyond the music, and people who claim to be RENT fans but still get basic facts wrong, and I just kind of want to yell at them all that, no, none of the characters claim that it's a Moral Outrage to ask artists to pay their rent, and, oh yes, most of the main characters have jobs. 'Real' jobs, even.

Also, I want to know where this perception that RENT is about a bunch of whiny artists who think they should be exempt from paying rent or working real jobs comes from. Because it's so obviously not.

There's no real reason this should be irritating me so much. :( In related but cheerier news, today I listened to an audio of Robin de Jesus playing Angel, the first time I had heard such a thing, and I'm so in love with him it's ridiculous. <3

Also, here, have a meme snagged from [livejournal.com profile] brandy_took:

> Took the parents to see Coraline 3D. It was pretty much completely awesome. ♥ I think I might be able to get my mom to read a little Gaiman now.

> I kind of really want a Coraline icon now. [/is predictable] Anyone know of any?

> There's a new job listing on BackstageJobs that looks amazing. Also I'm mostly qualified for it. They say they'd prefer Atlanta locals, which I am not, but prefer =/= require? I'm nervous about contacting them though because it's a very informal offer ("if this looks interesting to you, drop me a line to talk about details") and I'm not very good at coming off well in an informal setting with new people. I say that like I'm any good at all at coming off well with new people in any setting, which we all know isn't true, but point stands.

> Somebody, somewhere, sometime, should write an In The Heights AU fanfic in which Abuela Claudia doesn't die and she and Usnavi go to the Dominican Republic after all. I have no idea where it would go after that, but I think Sonny and Vanessa dealing with it would be fascinating.

> The Final Lottery featurette on the RENT DVD made me cry. None of the other featurettes made me cry, they were sweet and sad and everything but I didn't get teary-eyed until I saw that one girl who won on the phone with her boyfriend telling him to put on a clean shirt and get down to the Nederlander.

> I think my sister and her husband are moving to New York. (The state, not the city.) No one has actually said so to me, but people actually pass news like this on to me very rarely. They just sort of assume that someone else told me, or that I know through osmosis, or that I'm psychic, or something. But anyway, eavesdropping overhearing conversations between other people, I've been led to believe that they're moving.

> One month to the House Of Blues and Shaney Mac!

Today my dad and I went out in search of a way to kill time, and I elected to try to hunt down Titus Andronicus's The Airing of Grievances, which my Google Alerts keeps telling me I should check out because apparently they're very heavily influenced by the Pogues. Because I live in the middle of freakin' nowhere, I did not have high hopes for this quest; there were basically three major places to check.

Store 1 used to have it but sold out of their stock and had no intention of restocking. Did I want to special order it through them? I said thanks but no thanks and moved on.

Store 2 had never carried it and had no intention of ever carrying it. But I could special order it through them, did I want to do that? No, thank you. Kept looking.

Store 3 did not have it. They were crowded so I did not stick around to ask if they were ever going to carry it, or to hear them ask if I wanted to special order it through them.

Quest of the day was a failure. However, I did walk away with RENT: Filmed Live On Broadway on DVD, Anthony Rapp's Without You, and a chocolate-themed calendar. And when I got home I hopped on iTunes and bought The Airing of Grievances for $10 and am currently copying it to my iTunes for a listen. Quest of the day may have been a failure, but the day itself was a success!

...I am so boring.

Today I got to see my Niki, which is always wonderful. <3 <3 <3 And there was fudge and randomly walking the streets and making fun of her boy by proxy.

Today I also purchased teh Niki's birthday present, so hopefully it will ship soon and get here before the Big Day.

I am listening to the 10th anniversary performance of RENT, and as always am torn on whether my Favorite Part is Daphne's snarky delivery of "I'm 19, but I'm old for my age" in Light My Candle, Jesse being startled over how fast Wilson is during I'll Cover You, or just Adam's total inability to remember his lines ever. ♥ "[long silence] Oh! 'When on every street it's trick or treat'...no? What's the lyrics?" Or maybe it's everybody feeling up on Taye (what, like you blame them for that.)

From...everybody, pretty much:

Put your MP3 player/playlist on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

When You Were Young

Someday I'm gonna be famous
If you live around here
Break of day, the dawn is here
My eyes are fully open to my awful situation

I can't feel nothin' at all
Hey, Stephen, I know looks can be deceivin'
In passing glances
Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I

Each night you show up about a quarter to two
This step is one again our first
I solve my problems and I see the light
Hey ho, let's go

She's not a girl who misses much
A young cowboy named Billy Joe grew restless on the farm
How glad the many millions of Annabelles and Lillians
Let me set you straight

How the world can change
Little shop
Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak
They came from near, they came from far

Week 2 of [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo done, and I accomplished my goal of at least 100 words a day. I hate at least half of what I wrote this week, but at least it's writing...

Rundown: "with you/without you" is the second installment in the ongoing Michael/Liam story, started with "kissing liam donnelly" last week; I don't know how I feel about it. It does what I needed it to, anyway. "deathsong" is kind of cool, I like playing with Irish mythology. I'm still not entirely sure what's going on in "big bad world one" -- teh Niki compared it to "Memento" which is fairly accurate as it goes -- and I am also terribly confused as to what the premise of "slipping" actually is. Why do I keep writing things where I don't know what's going on? "interlude #1: liam" is part three in the Michael/Liam story, except it's more an interlude than an actual part of the story, hence the title, and again I don't know how I feel about it. I know for sure that "bibliogeist" isn't finished as is, but I don't know where to go from there, and really the thing I like best about it is the title. (And Shire, the bookstore cat.) "more than anything" is just one cliche from start to finish, isn't it.

So, yeah. I think "deathsong" is the only thing I produced this week that I actually like.

Totally unrelated, I'm starting to seriously think about Christmas shopping. In RL shopping, I have not yet purchased but am fairly sure I know what to get for teh Niki, my dad, and the little brother. I am much more lost on what to get my mom and the older sister. Am I supposed to get something for the new brother-in-law whom I have not yet met? *confused*

In LJ shopping, I have not yet purchased anything for anyone, but I have wishlists bookmarked for [livejournal.com profile] superduperkc, [livejournal.com profile] ladyfiresprite, and [livejournal.com profile] oc_pixie. If you have posted a wishlist and I have somehow missed it, now's the time to let me know; if you haven't but planned to, I'll keep an eye out for it. I'll be putting up a wishlist eventually.
