The bad: I hit up the local Barnes & Noble intending to use the gift card in my money clip to get caught up on the three Animorphs re-releases I didn't yet own. But they didn't have The Encounter. Curse you, B&N! Are you prejudiced against hawks? Is that what this is?
I did pick up The Message and The Predator, though. And spent entirely too long dwelling over the DVR reference and the change from "Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood" to "Sesame Street" in the beginning of The Message.
The AWESOME ENOUGH TO MAKE ME FORGET BARNES & NOBLE'S UNFAIR DISLIKE OF RED-TAILED HAWKS:
Two missing Doctor Who episodes have been recovered! They are not episodes from serials noted for their high writing quality, but WHO CARES ONE/VICKI/STEVEN AND TWO/BEN/POLLY/JAMIE I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW
SO HAPPY
I honestly didn't really expect them to find any more of the missing episodes in my lifetime, but THERE YOU GO, TWO OF THEM AT ONCE.
Clearly we need to be running Public Service Announcements and getting people to scour their attics and basements and storage closets looking for other episodes.
(THERE IS A CLIP OF THE RECOVERED GALAXY 4 EPISODE here and it is AMAAAAAAAAZING, OH VICKI ILU AND OH HARTNELL YOU ARE MAGIC)

This is kind of a late post, but, okay, here's three things from today:
One!
I hope everyone on my flist who celebrates American Thanksgiving, had a happy one! And those of you who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a happy November 24th! ♥
Two!
This is an actual conversation that happened:
My dad, randomly: "I miss the Great Dismal Swamp fire."
Me: " ... you miss the Great Dismal Swamp fire?"
My dad: "Yes."
Me: "But. It was a fire. In a swamp. A swamp called dismal."
My brother: " ... you know, I never actually considered the fact that the swamp is named 'Dismal' before ... "
Three!
After we ate Thanksgiving dinner (which was delicious), we (by which I mean me, my brother, and my parents) went out to a movie as a family ~thing.
And that movie?
THE MUPPETS, HELLS YEAH.
( spoilery, mostly for character/dialogue/premise stuff, but a little bit of plot as well )
I want fic about the Electric Mayhem set between the last in-continuity movie and this one. For the record, I don't consider Muppets In Space to have been in-continuity.
HAPPY NOVEMBER 24TH, PEOPLE! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

So, Illuminights officially opens Monday with an employee preview tomorrow night and what this means is NO MORE INSTALL which means NO MORE 16-HOUR SHIFTS until Illuminights strike, probably, which will be near the end of August) and also means that I (theoretically) get actual days off again. I got home from my last 16-hour shift at 4:30 this morning, immediately went to bed, and then got up at a more reasonable hour of the morning to find...

Final (probably) word count: 53380
OMGWTF
I think I'm done.
I mean the ending is kind of weird and I'm not sure I like it, and there's still the problem with the last few thousand words setting up a sequel hook I'm unlikely to ever deliver on, and it certainly needs an awful lot of editing, but it's a 50,000+ word story with all the required parts to be a story, i.e., a beginning, a middle, and an end.
This may be a first for me.
Endings ... are not my strong point, I think is the general gist I'm trying to get across here.

Word count: 51,033
OMG YAY :D :D :D
The story's actually not quite finished yet -- there's still some subplot loose ends that need tying -- but I'm pretty sure I'm in the final chapter and I'm hoping to wrap it up by this weekend.
But I hit 50,000! Early! OMGYAY!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day here in the States, so a happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans and a happy November 25th to everyone not from the US.
Yay, food!

Since coming up here, I have played Monopoly (the Here & Now: World Edition) twice. The night before yesterday, my dad and my sister and I played, and my dad won, by rather a lot. Tonight, my dad and my mom and my sister and my brother and I played, and my sister won. By rather a lot.
I actually was the second person to go bankrupt in both games. I don't know if that signifies anything beyond "Chica is bad with money".

Finally, have a meme!
How to do this meme: Using only EPISODE names from ONE TV SHOW, cleverly answer these questions. Try not to repeat an episode title. It’s a lot harder than you think! Repost as "My life according to (show)".
My Life According to Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda
Describe yourself: All Too Human
How do you feel: The Sum Of Its Parts
Describe where you currently live: Fear And Loathing In The Milky Way
If you could go anywhere where would you go?: All Great Neptune's Ocean
Your favorite form of transportation: Lava And Rockets
Your best friend is: An Affirming Flame
What's the weather like: Twilight Of The Idols
Favourite time of day: Under The Night
If your life was a TV show, it would be called: The Mathematics Of Tears
What is life to you: The Sum Of Its Parts
Your fear: Its Hour Come Round At Last
What is the best advice you have to give: Into The Labyrinth
Thought for the day: The Devil Take The Hindmost
How I would like to die: Star-Crossed
My soul's present condition: A Heart For Falsehood Framed
My motto: Una Salus Victus
OMG YAY :D :D :D

...post subject not actually relevant to this entry. But then how often are my post subjects actually relevant to my entries?
I am excited about the new Doctor Who writer spoilers even if they are over a season off. (Warning: link itself is spoilery, so, you know, don't hover over it if you're avoiding stuff like...who's going to be writing an episode of Who in the 2011 series.)
Exciting and happy-making! Yay, writers I like writing for shows I like!
...in other news, I hate writer's block. But that's not really news.

Today:
- Our bathroom sinks have finally reached the point of being fixed. There are gaping holes in our kitchen ceiling, but the sinks work, so.
- I played a lot of Russian Solitaire. And lost a lot of Russian Solitaire. Russian Solitaire is hard, yo.
- I saw my Niki!!!! This is obv the most important item on this list. She brought her boy with her and we went to Muddy Waters and then to Bojangles and her boy got somewhat lost on the trip between "coffeehouse" and "food". And she gave me stuff which to make awesome cupcakes with and I gave her fudge and this shower curtain. Yay belated Christmas gifts!
...I miss my Niki. She needs to come see me more often. *hints loudly*

YOU GUYS.
My LOST season 5 DVDs came today!
I splurged on the Dharma Initiative Orientation Kit special edition, and I'm glad I did despite the cost because it's awesome. Well, the packaging is awesome. The stuff that I assume doesn't come in the regular addition is mostly fluff (with the exception of the VHS orientation tape, which is AWESOME), but, still, I'm very happy with it.
So now I'm watching season 5 and indulging in how much I love this show and these characters and half wishing that the new season would start NAO OMG and half getting really upset over the idea that the new season is the LAST season. This show has been very important to me. It's hard to believe it's going to end. :(
So I'm choosing to ignore that little fact for a moment in favor of OMG SHINY. ♥

I got some Shelly on my shoe!
Word count right now: 1,952.
Plot so far: Not much, but Johnny has officially joined the band now, so at least something's happened in the first 2,000 words!
Anyway. Last night, AS PLANNED, teh Niki and teh Niki's boy and I got all dressed up in old jeans and white tees and went to see EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL at the Generic Theater. We were the second group in line for the Splatter Zone, and the first to find seats: front row, dead center.
Teh Niki's boy got knocked in the knee by Good Old Reliable Jake during "Good Old Reliable Jake", a story which was almost immediately overshadowed by the fact that Good Old Reliable Jake went on to give me a lap dance.
The show was brilliant, the cast was great, we laughed hysterically through the whole thing and the show stopped dead for applause any time Ash said any of his more famous lines. ("Good, bad...I'm the guy with the gun." "This is my BOOMSTICK!" "Give me some sugar, baby." And, of course, "Shop smart. SHOP S-MART!") Cheryl breaking out "If Chins Could Kill" by Bruce Campbell when Scott told her to "go read a book" was, I think, one of everyone's favorite moments.
At the end of the first act, all three white t-shirts were still spotless, and there was some disappointment discussed during intermission. This was soon remedied in the second act; we're pretty sure that backstage, various cast members were going "Hey, did you see those idiots in the front row wearing white? Okay, so in this scene, you get the one on the right, and I'll get the one on the left, and, uh, you target the middle one." We were drenched and sticking to ourselves by the time we left. The staff were taking pictures of audience members leaving, just candid snapshots, but when we came out they stopped us and went "Okay. We have to get a photo of you three."
:D
It was kind of a ridiculously awesome experience. OMGYAY.

First answer to this meme:
regann asked for Top Five Andromeda Eps!
These are "favorite" rather than "best", mind you. I can admit that some of my favorite episodes really wouldn't qualify for a best list, and vice versa.
( cut for length and images )
In other news, I think today definitely qualifies as a Good Day. <3 I went in to work this morning with the set crew to try and label the electrics to make changeover easier; we got some stuff done, but the Mousetrap set made us stop early. Which wasn't a bad thing, 'cause the Monmouth fair is this weekend! *flail* A bunch of us went down and spent the afternoon checking it out. Fair food! Games! Rides! Animals! (In games, I won a big stuffed snake and a tiny stuffed dolphin. The dolphin is named Cassie. The snake has not yet been named because I can't decide on an appropriate one for her. She's going to be the electrics mascot, though! Any ideas?) Also, I had fried dough and French fries and strawberry lemonade and I rode the carousel twice and it was very dorky fun. Then some of us hit up local yard and garage sales, and I wound up with two Star Wars books and a new pair of jeans and a fantastic sweater and a shirt and a mug for my mom, all for $2. Yes. $2 for all that. Then we had Mousetrap this evening, and everything was working at dimmer check, so during the show roommate and I holed up in our room and watched Coraline and ate ice cream and popcorn. Then changeover went kind of awesome -- my crew is very proud of themselves for their third changeover with no mistakes.
So...yeah. Good day. :)
Two shows tomorrow, though.

So here is something you may or may not know about me, given that it's generally irrelevant: I was born in Maine. (So was my older sister. My younger brother, on the other hand, was born in Virginia, which is even more irrelevant but funny because when we were little we used to tease him about having been on the losing side of the American Civil War.) Anyway, yes, born in Maine. A good section of my mother's family lives in Maine to this day, and one of my dad's brothers has a weekend place in Maine. It's actually his wife's, I think, but that's sort of totally irrelevant.
And, as I've mentioned (did I actually mention the location here?), I'll be living and working in a theater in Maine for ten weeks starting in June.
The reason I am bringing this up is because, much like my soft spot for Massachusetts, I've always had a soft spot for Maine. It's a beautiful part of the country, and it's the place I was born, and Maine lobster is delicious, and I love it a lot.
Today, I have another reason to love it a lot.
...It's kind of like California's fail spurred the rest of the country into making up for it as fast as possible, isn't it? Anyway, the point is, YAY MAINE!

Tony noms are out!
The good: [tos] got a nod for best book!! *flails* YAY HUNTER! Karen Olivo and Raúl Esparza are up for actor awards, West Side Story and Hair are both up for Best Revival of a Musical, and Next to Normal is just racking up noms.
The bad: Shrek gets eight noms and [tos] gets one? Really? I mean, I am utterly thrilled for the show to get recognized at all and YAY HUNTER! but I was really hoping they'd also get a nod in Best Musical. And Heidi or Susan should have been recognized for Best Featured Actress. :/
But still.

I have a new external hard drive! Thank you, eBay. This one's 500GB (in theory, 465GB in practice), so it should last me a good while (in theory).
It does however raise two questions, which I am thus passing on to you guys. Because I'm lazy that way.
1) New EHD needs a name. Previous EHDs are named Barbara and Toshiko, if that provides a guide. (iPod is named Martha. Laptop is named Sally. Sally is not named after Sally Sparrow, but aside from that, yes, it's probably the naming scheme you're thinking of.) Any suggestions?
2) What's the easiest way to transfer my iTunes library from internal hard drive to external without losing things like play counts? Anyone know?
But aside from that, I'm just excited to have storage space again. <3 <3 <3
