Final (probably) word count: 53380

OMGWTF

I think I'm done.

I mean the ending is kind of weird and I'm not sure I like it, and there's still the problem with the last few thousand words setting up a sequel hook I'm unlikely to ever deliver on, and it certainly needs an awful lot of editing, but it's a 50,000+ word story with all the required parts to be a story, i.e., a beginning, a middle, and an end.

This may be a first for me.

Endings ... are not my strong point, I think is the general gist I'm trying to get across here.

*celebrates*

Word count: 37705. 75% done!

Hoping to hit 40000 tomorrow. If I do, then I refuse to allow myself to feel guilty should I fail to write anything on the drive up to New York.

It's looking like Mila and Nalini are going to put the Big Plan in action around the 40,000-mark, anyway. They're beta testing it now. I'm not sure the actual execution of the Plan will take anywhere near 10,000 words, but we'll see. If nothing else, I can resort in my desperation to Ending Fatigue to pad my count, IDK IDK. Too soon to tell? Possibly I should have had an actual plan for the plot before I started, but it's far too late now.

Doctor Who is filming in the States right now and I am in entirely the wrong part of the country, dammit. D: D: D:

Most of my word count yesterday came from Nalini giving Mila a big, dramatic, The Reason You Suck Speech, and now they're not really talking to each other and I'm having so much trouble getting anything to happen today. :| COME ON, NALINI, YOU WANTED TO BE A MAIN CHARACTER, NOW COOPERATE.

Also I'm watching Psych while trying to write. That's probably not helping my wordcount, either. spoilers for the return of Psych )

Word count: 29411

YAY.

I'm trying to get as much ahead as I reasonably can because next week we're headed up to my sister's in New York to celebrate Thanksgiving and while I will be able to write while there, probably not as much as I can here. Plus, it's a day's drive up and a day's drive back and while I will attempt to write on the trip that rarely turns out well for me re: word count.

I'm about three and a half days ahead of the ~average as is so I'm not in bad shape!

Unrelated: I've seen a lot of people getting, like, legit annoyed about the name of the DW Christmas special. To which I can only say "LOL, RLY?" Doctor Who's always had bland but functional episode titles. The unusual, memorable, or oblique titles are the exception for Who, not the rule. *coughDalekcoughLastOfTheTimeLordscoughTheDoctor'sDaughtercough*
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (t: [tos]: innocent bystander)
Word count: 24,290. I'm very nearly at the halfway point!

...A lot of this is going to come out in editing, though. There's quite a lot of "I can't think of anything to write so the characters in this scene are going to banter irrelevantly and with poor segue skills."

Fitz has shown up again and I'm enjoying writing him, though Mila and Nalini don't seem inclined to accept his assistance.

I thought I had something non-NaNo to talk about here but I can't remember what it was. So, sorry. :(
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: dw: amy)
Ohay, first major writer's block of this year's NaNo. Ugh. I've written about three hundred words today which is shameful and I have no idea where to go from here. Mila and Nalini are chilling in Luke's office waiting for him to return while they eat junk food and discuss what they would do if they were rich. POSSIBLY if I could work out an actual plan for how Mila and Nalini are going to bring down the corrupt systems I could actually move forward in the ~plot. Such as it is. Since right now it mostly consists of "Okay, we have talked to Person A, now let us go talk to Person B!"

On the plus side, I have managed to get Fitz to introduce himself, so. That's something.

OH! Have all the DW fans on my flist seen the awesome unreleased scenes from the S5 box set? spoiler for the second of the linked scenes )
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (a: yunjin kim is impossibly pretty)
Word count: 11,528. Wheee. Although Luke has apparently decided to be introduced into the story earlier than planned and the continued presence of Nalini is throwing off how I thought the plot would go. Who cares. It's NaNoWriMo.

...also I've just realized that Luke will probably use slang differently than Nalini who uses slang differently than Mila so :| I have to either work out a third slang system or find a way to handwave it. Most likely the first option since that will give me a few hours' diversion into research and worldbuilding and we all know I enjoy putting off actual writing as long as possible.

Um.

Eventually I will have something not-Nano to talk about.

But not today.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (mus: pogues: shaney mac)
Word count: 9423. Including a slang glossary which I'm counting because as of right now I think it's necessary to include it in the novel. (Okay, the truth is I showed the first chunk to mah Niki bear and she got confused by the slang so now there's a glossary.)

Nalini has declared herself to be a much more significant part of the plot than I was expecting. But I think I'm okay with it, I'm also enjoying writing her more than I expected.

Although one significant chunk of what I wrote today is not at all going to survive editing, I'm pretty sure.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (b: ani: rdu: wikipedia that shit)
My protagonist/narrator has a minor obsession with food. It's interesting, I had no idea of this fact about her until I started writing. But it seems like the promise of free food is far and away the best method of getting her to do something. It doesn't even have to be good food.

Re: this week's Sarah Jane Adventures: I have come to the conclusion that the overarching ~theme of the series is "Everyone, everywhere, everywhen, loves Clyde." Y/Y?
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (b: pt: choices)
Word count: 4,009

I'm hoping to crack 5,000 before midnight but if I don't I'm not fussed about it; I've still got a pretty good head start going. Also I've managed to start the plot, as Mila has acquired information which will lead to her discovery of the conspiracy that she will spend the rest of the book trying to bring down.

Sadly, I've only gotten to introduce one major secondary character (but it's Sage who is my favorite of the secondary characters in this story so that's something).

Also, as a note to myself: during post-November editing, do a massive trim of the amounts of Future Slang being used because dude it's out of control.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: gw: writer)
Happy NaNoWriMo!

It's two and a half hours (ish) into November here and my word count is 2603 and I'm going to bed now. More words when I wake up.

Yayyyy.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (tv: sja: rani)
Starting to freak out about NaNoWriMo, which is kind of ridiculous 'cause it's a month and a half away. But on the plus side I've come up with a title I don't hate for the story I intend to write! (Yeah, it's the cyberpunk thing. IDEK if I'm actually capable of writing it but I WILL TRY.)

It's now called 'The Stranger Now', a title which may or may not still feel appropriate when the thing is something more than a loose collection of characters and worldbuilding in my head. Plot, what plot.

ALSO, if you are remotely interested in the Sarah Jane Adventures and not averse to spoilers, this is a clip you should see, omg, I can't waiiiiit. Is it SJA tiem nao?
