i've got a bad feeling about this

I'm watching Star Wars, which seems like a good way to celebrate a day off from work. (July the fourth be with you.)

MERRY CHRISTMAS IF YOU CELEBRATE IT, MERRY DECEMBER 25TH OTHERWISE. Or December 26th, depending on your time zone.
Aside from the fact that I'm still sick (IT'S BEEN TWO MONTHS THAT IS TOO LONG FOR THIS STUPID COLD TO STICK AROUND) and that it's ridiculously warm, it's been a pretty great Christmas so far.
My brother went all-out on gifts and pretty much completed my Neil Gaiman collection (INCLUDING THE DELUXE EDITION OF THE SANDMAN OVERTURE) plus some baking-related stuff I've been wanting, my sister and her family got me a Netflix gift card that will pay for my account for like four months and a bit, and the parents got me some nice clothes (including an EXCELLENT scarf that I really wish it wasn't way too warm to wear), a beautiful coloring book and nice colored pencils, and Into The Woods on blu-ray. I AM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT ALL OF THIS. Also a bunch of people at work gave me various kinds of food. Thank you, people at work!
And everyone seemed really pleased with what I got them which is AWESOME. (I am the world's most insecure gift-giver. Even when I'm buying people things they've specifically said they want. WHAT IF THEY CHANGED THEIR MIND?!)
Also, YULETIDE. I've barely made a dent in the archive as a whole, but I received two gifts and they're both INCREDIBLE: y a lo exterior regresan las cosas en ti ocultas, an utterly gorgeous Sense8 fic about Lito and Capheus connecting that manages to combine everything I ever wanted and does it beautifully, and Start Here, a fantastically adorable Girl Meets World fic about Zay meeting the guy of his dreams on his first day of college that just about kills me with cute.

i can't believe a year went by so fast
Merry Christmas Eve to everyone who celebrates Christmas, and Happy December 24th to everyone else! (Unless it's December 25th in your time zone. Then Merry Christmas and/or Happy December 25th!)
I have Andes Mint brownies and I got two amazing and very different fics for Yuletide, so I'm having a pretty great December 24th.
The stories in question:
More than we know, a Hellblazer fic focusing on Cheryl through the years, particularly her relationships with Gemma and John. The author has a really great grasp of Cheryl's voice, and everything about it feels right.
Where We've Been, a Ghostwriter fic in which Lenni and Jamal reunite twelve years post-canon. It's bittersweet with a really fantastic happy ending, and the futures the author has imagined for the characters is strikingly perfect.

Merry Christmas!
1) We did a small family gift exchange this morning and will have a small family dinner later today; the rest of the traditional family Christmas celebration is being postponed to early January, when the whole family (including both siblings) can be present. Yay! Gifts received included: The Swell Season on DVD, an Irish/English dictionary, hot chocolate, new boots. Very nice. :D
2) Yuletide fics are up! My gift is here, and it's wonderful; a Once/Doctor Who crossover, wherein the Guy encounters the Doctor after moving to London, and things proceed from there. I'm working my way through the rest of the collection now, but am still filled with glee by this one fic. ♥♥♥ (Also, my recipient responded positively to their gift, so that is also filling me with glee.)
3) Doctor Who. OH DOCTOR WHO. ( Doctor Who I don't know how this is being numbered: The Snowmen )

Well, it's officially Christmas season; the tree is decorated, we went and saw Tuba Christmas, and today involved watching The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Today my dad and I went down to watch the local Christmas parade at the waterfront, as we do most years, and as happens most years, I remembered why our local Christmas parade is intensely dull. There's free candy canes, though.
We also got the Christmas tree up, so the holiday season is officially started here. Which means I really need to get started on Christmas shopping ...

this is a concession post
So I've pretty much completely lost the thread of posting every day. I'm sorry! I will try to get back to that! NaNoWriMo's been beating me rather than the other way around; as of last night I've officially given up on this story and gone full rebel; I'm just going to try to write 50K of fiction by the end of the month and if it's not all in the same story, too bad.
Note to self: Don't attempt do to NaNo three times in one year ever again.
So that should at least kill most of the NaNo whining, hopefully.
Tomorrow is American Thanksgiving! Which means delicious food and Broadway shows performing in parades! Happy Thanksgiving if you happen to celebrate it, happy November 22nd otherwise!

Went to watch the local fireworks with my dad because YAY BLOWING SHIT UP. They were pretty unimpressive this year, though. :(

So, due to travel needs (my dad needs to be back at work on Monday), my parents, my brother, and I will be spending Christmas Day driving the ~20 hours back to North Carolina from Missouri.
So in order to compensate for that, we decided to treat Christmas Eve as Christmas Day and everybody got up too early this morning despite half the family being sick with colds! :D

One!
I hope everyone on my flist who celebrates American Thanksgiving, had a happy one! And those of you who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a happy November 24th! ♥
Two!
This is an actual conversation that happened:
My dad, randomly: "I miss the Great Dismal Swamp fire."
Me: " ... you miss the Great Dismal Swamp fire?"
My dad: "Yes."
Me: "But. It was a fire. In a swamp. A swamp called dismal."
My brother: " ... you know, I never actually considered the fact that the swamp is named 'Dismal' before ... "
Three!
After we ate Thanksgiving dinner (which was delicious), we (by which I mean me, my brother, and my parents) went out to a movie as a family ~thing.
And that movie?
THE MUPPETS, HELLS YEAH.
( spoilery, mostly for character/dialogue/premise stuff, but a little bit of plot as well )
I want fic about the Electric Mayhem set between the last in-continuity movie and this one. For the record, I don't consider Muppets In Space to have been in-continuity.

"A Boy Like That", West Side Story. Anita is the only interesting character, it has the least threatening gangs ever, and the love story is just as unconvincing as the source material plus Maria doesn't even die at the end.
On the plus side, this version is sung by Karen Olivo, who as we've established I love to ridiculous degrees.

Given that I am fairly rubbish at wrapping presents, I'm not sure how I became the default gift wrapper for my family.
(...okay, that's not entirely fair. I'm just the default gift wrapper for any presents my dad buys, and also for the presents that my mom buys for him to give to her because he's a terrible shopper, and also for the presents that my mom buys to give my dad, and also this year for the presents my sister sent everyone who isn't me. It's still pretty weird, yo, and if anyone complains about the shoddy wrapping job on their present I will cut them.)
