I just felt like this 15-years-of-obsession achievement deserved some kind of recognition.

New layout!

Because I was getting tired of the blue, and because I have nothing better to do with my life than play with my LJ layout, I guess.

I have received my Christmas present from my bb brother!

He's let having a good job go to his head. I'm not complaining in the least.

So obviously I immediately put on the Pogues DVD.

Happy Christmas Eve to those who celebrate, happy December 24th to those who don't!

The inherent problem in listening to "Just Look Them Straight In The Eye And Say...Pogue Mahone!!!" on shuffle: You can very easily wind up going from a fairly-recent concert audio, with Shane being all growly and slurry and semi-incomprehensible, to an early demo recording, with Shane being all young and punk-band-tough and hitting notes. And then you get sad.

Oh, well, at least all the alcohol will probably keep him alive forever.

My new computer has arrived!

She's a Sony Vaio, and she's incredibly sexy and shiny and portable and fast, and she's been officially named Shanne. Shanne Bradley, to be formal.

Yes, I am the dork who names her computers after Pogues songs and the rest of her gadgets after Doctor Who companions.

I'm already in love with her. I just need to get used the keyboard, which is sized differently from Sally's, so I'm going to be trying to do as much typing as possible before Tuesday, when Shanne will become my main hardware for NaNo.

New love is always so shiny, isn't it? :D

HEARING "IF I SHOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH GOD" USED FOR CAR COMMERCIALS WILL NEVER STOP BEING WEIRDLY HILARIOUS TO ME.
I mean it's not quite as awesomely ridiculous as that car commercial that used "Sunnyside of the Street" (the Pogues song, not the swing standard), but it's still pretty ridiculous.

Meme!

List ten to twenty of your fandoms and post them here for everyone to guess your favorite character from each. Strike the show out when someone guesses correctly, and put the answer and who guessed it.

Also, soon I will be able to watch Being Human! *flails*

Bored and reading back through old posts on The Medusa Fora.

Philip Chevron wrote, in response to an article a fan linked to:
Jem is not quite accurate when he says opera was one of our "secret" desires. It was an oft-discussed notion at one point between ourselves and Kirsty MacColl, and it mutated into a Pogues/Kirsty version of the musical West Side Story before both our record companies told us not to take so many drugs.

(Why did this never happen?)

Later in the same thread:
"Contact Yourself" no longer exists and did so only briefly. It was never a serious option to offer a 20-minute acid house track to a petrified record company who already hated the album we did deliver. But try telling that to your lead singer when he's in the middle of an acid trip. Just saying.

Paul is dead, by the way, though his delicious pasta sauce lives on.

Day made! OMG. So cool. NGL it made me so ridiculously happy to find this in my e-mail. :D :D :D

In related news, ARDU has updated with the first installment of "The Pretender"!

In unrelated news, poking at eBay and Half.com re: the Pogues albums I'm missing, and found the EPs, of all things. *flail* Six bucks for the Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah EP on CD. I can't justify spending much money right now, given that whole "unemplyed" thing, but...six bucks. That's so not bad. Right?
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Pogues - Shaney Mac)
I have almost completed my Pogues collection! ...okay, I'm still missing three albums. BUT. I have all their studio albums, half (that's one of two, yo) of their live albums, and four out of six of the compilations. Now I'm just missing The Ultimate Collection (Including Live at the Brixton Academy 2001), The Best Of The Pogues, and Dirty Old Town: The Platinum Collection.

...okay, I'm also missing the two EPs, but those are like impossible to find so I'm ignoring them for the moment.

I am making progress.

Once I finish my Pogues collection, I suppose I'll have to work on my Shane & the Popes collection, which is in a much less respectable state atm.

(Possibly my music addiction is getting out of hand...as of this posting, my iTunes music library boasts 73.99GBs...18809 songs...if I played it continuously it would take 46.6 days to listen to...guys, reassure me that other people packrat their music to the extent that I do? Tell me that your music counts are at least as high! Or nearly as high! Or something reassuring!

I only have an 8gb iPod. Do you know how hard it is to decide what to put on there? *pouts*)

Off that subject...

Oh! Also exciting: I completed my Ghostwriter collection! All of the original series! "Ghost Story" through "Attack Of The Slime Monster"! I haven't watched all of it yet, but I'm excited to have it there to watch, y'know? Yes, I'm a nostalgia dork. I don't care. It's so ridiculously awesome, with the dorky 90s urban fashion and slang and terrible SFX and all. Word.

Also, it's so much funnier watching the attempt at cosplay in "Am I Blue?" now than when I was a kid.

...whatever, I'm a geek, we get it.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (I'm not old)
  • I made fudge! It's currently cooling on the counter. I'm looking forward to it.

  • Today's mail brought the concert tickets! *celebrates* This Friday, the House of Blues, kids. Shane fuckin' MacGowan.

  • ...sometimes I feel bad about how much I fangirl Shane without stopping to note that, yes, I am a fan of the band as a whole, and, no, Shane-minus-the-Pogues wouldn't be quite as awesome. So take this as a note that when I fangirl Shane, fangirling the rest of the band is implied to be part of it. ...but I really am a huge fan of Shane himself.

  • On a different note, vidders on my flist, could you offer any help? I've been trying to render a vid in Windows Movie Maker (yes, yes, I know) for about three days now. Every time, the actual rendering seems to go fine -- it'll hang for a couple seconds, then continue on -- but when I play the video the image will freeze at a certain point. The audio will continue on fine, but the picture will be frozen -- and it's at a different point each time I try rendering. I have no idea what's going on. Any advice?

  • [livejournal.com profile] metafandom is covering RaceFail09. I wish I had something enlightening to say here, or a good way of summing up the whole thing, but I don't and I can't. So I'm just gonna say that there's a lot of intelligent, eloquent people saying a lot of things that a lot of people -- me included -- ought to listen to. Also, there's a lot of fail in fandom. Well, in the world in general, but I like to think fandom slants towards more intelligent, accepting people, and it's always sad when that belief is proved wrong.

  • This is another one of those "I'm sure I had other things to talk about but I don't remember what they were" bullet points. Sorry.

Most awesome-tastic thing heard in a while: The Pogues covering "Do You Believe In Magic?" *laughs*

Close second: The radio-friendly version of "Boys From The County Hell", mainly because the lyrics stop making sense when you replace all the profanity. "We got him out the back and we beat him 'til he bawled"? Really?

BEST CONCERT EVER.

Shane fucking MacGowan made a dirty suggestion to me and Niki. We are ninety-five percent sure. The five percent of doubt is because, you know, Shane...you're never really sure what he's saying. But he was definitely talking to us and we're pretty sure it was sexual.

My life is complete.

(Details and pics coming later. Details when I am awake and not stealing a couple minutes on Niki's laptop. Pics coming as soon as my girl uploads them from her camera for me.)

SHANE IS MY IDOL.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Pogues)
My love, adoration, and awe of Shane MacGowan and his genius has risen exponentially. I don't know how it's possible, given how I felt about him before the concert, but it's true.

So to sum up: after last night, Shane MacGowan owns my soul. The whole experience was one of the highlights of my life. I am usually give to hyperbole, but this is really not much exaggeration.

ETA: Pics coming as soon as I can get them developed and find out if any of them came out at all. I had a good seat, but not a great one for taking photographs.
