I have received my Christmas present from my bb brother!

He's let having a good job go to his head. I'm not complaining in the least.
So obviously I immediately put on the Pogues DVD.
It's glorious, okay? It's everything a concert video should be. I realize I'm biased, but for real, it's well-shot and well-edited; it strikes a nice balance between showing you everything that's going on and artistic license/cool images.
And it's a fantastic performance. The band is completely on from beginning to end and look like they're enjoying every moment of it and at one point James makes a snow angel in the Fairytale Of New York fake snow and whoever edited the video together clearly got a huge kick out of Spider and the beer tray.
And Shane is completely flawless, snarling his way through songs, bickering and bantering and genuinely enjoying himself, and only in a few moments does he slur thickly enough to make understanding difficult. Please live forever, Shane.
The bonus content is also great; there's a recording of Philip singing "Thousands Are Sailing" at a 2006 concert, and two French featurettes on the band from 1986 (which made me a little depressed because of the whole "The band is recording their next album" part and they haven't recorded a new album in ages and I am overinvested) which had some fantastic footage of early concerts.
The boxset also came with a two-CD set of the Paris concert and a booklet with people reminiscing about 30 years of the Pogues, which introduced me to this story I'd never heard before:
I sincerely hope that is honestly the way Cait O'Riordan joined the Pogues.

Cait had joined the band of merry men by then. (Shane met her on Oxford St. He said if she lent him five quid she could join his band.)
I sincerely hope that is honestly the way Cait O'Riordan joined the Pogues.
