Have there been any retellings of Hamlet from Horatio's perspective? Preferably not modernized or otherwise setting-shifted.

Offhand, I know of retellings from the perspectives of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern, Ophelia, and Claudius (...I think? I can't confirm that last one).

Related, if anyone knows of a decent list of Hamlet retellings in general, that would be awesome.

(But seriously, if there isn't a Horatio-centric version of Hamlet in existence my fragile heart may be crushed. Someone get on that, I'm sure it's a moneymaker somehow.)

Some of those I don't remember anything about past knowing that I once watched them. Some of them I remember incredibly fondly. Some of them I've watched in the past two weeks.

The Muppet Show is coming to comic books! It actually looks really cool from the preview. They get the basic feel of the characters down. Especially Statler and Waldorf. You can practically hear them.

We Haven't Got There Yet by Harry Turtledove. A short story in which Shakespeare watches a performance of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Really lovely, well-written, feels right on so many levels. Says the fangirl.

I have like half an hour left of the first installment of "The Reaction" (and I am enjoying how Kyle keeps calling in to make fun of the new guy) and then I will have listened to all the ARD:U episodes currently available from their website. *sadface* I think while I'm waiting for them to update the website I might go back and relisten to everything to collect quotes. I already have a .txt file full of ARD:U quotes but I know I missed some good ones, including stuff I was like "GOOD QUOTE" but wasn't anywhere I could write it down.

The little brother showed up at 9:30 last night. Apparently it's spring break for his school? He neglected to tell anyone about this until he actually...y'know, showed up. It was kind of funny. (My mom claims she used to, not only not tell her family she was coming home until she was actually home, she would come home, crash out on the couch, and tell them the next morning.) Anyway, so the freakishly tall kid is home for a week.

Anyway, I'm wasting some time reading back through whatthedenmark, because I do so love and fangirl them. ♥

The first secret in today's fandomsecrets batch is about Hamlet. *loves* And this seems as good a time as any to advance one of my crack theories, which is this: If Horatio and Mercutio switched plays, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet would both have ended much earlier and without all the bloodshed. Mercutio would have smacked Hamlet around until he went ahead and killed Claudius without all the dillydallying about trying to get proof, and Horatio would have very calmly put together a plan for Romeo and Juliet to run off together that didn't involve dying or faking deaths or massive miscommunications.

My brain works in odd ways.

Also: whatthedenmark. It's a modern!Hamlet RP, and I just found it and am already in love with their Horatio. Yah, yah, I'm always in love with anyone's Horatio. But they've got a really good one!

In real life news, Midsummer continues to exhaust. The cast needs to learn their damn lines, plzkthnx. I had a psych test today that I was woefully underprepared for. I still have no real idea what I'm going to do for the Misanthrope set and I'm behind on my Shakespeare homework.

Tomorrow I meet with my adviser re: registration for next semester. Here is what I am thinking about taking:
-Theatre for Young Audiences
-Oral History & Performance
-Classics of American Cinema
Which leaves at least one more class required to qualify as a full-time student. I might see if I can do an independent study. Otherwise I'll end up taking an English or sociology class or something. I don't know. All my required classes, core and major-related, are done; out of all the theatre classes being offered this fall there's only two that I haven't taken already and I really don't want to take any hardcore work-intensive courses for my last semester.
Also need to figure out what I need in order to apply to grad school.

I am totally screwed.

Campus has instituted a $25/day fine for staying in your dorm over the break. Break begins Wednesday April 4th. My aunt says she can't come get me until the 5th or 6th. I CANNOT AFFORD A $25 OR $50 FINE. I DO NOT HAVE $25 OR $50. I have $10. Maybe. Possibly.

Why has my campus decided to hate me? :( :(

Think good thoughts that this will get worked out. Somehow.

Midsummer proceeds apace. We are coming up fast on the performance--we have load-in the Monday after Easter, then a week of rehearsals to get used to the set, then tech week, and then we open.

I feel like they aren't ready. Possibly I am a pessimistic stage manager. o.0 Plz be ready, cast. And learn your damn exits.

I told Steve that I wanted to design a set for Chess for the junior seminar final project. Clearly there is something wrong with my head.

Conversely, I told Frans that I wanted to do a report on Brendan Behan (the famous drinker with a writing problem) for my World Theatre final presentation, so maybe there is something right with my head, too.

I think I'm going to delete all my LJ icons and start from scratch. Um. There's a couple icons I will probably keep--the Kevin/Cereal icon and the HeroinAddict!Claire one, in particular--but really I need to shake things up and deciding on 100-ish icons should keep me entertained for an hour or so.

Plus I need better Tommy/Kate, Tosh/Mary, and Jack/Tosh icons.
