My brother decided that I needed to learn how to use Ubuntu so he installed it so I could dual-boot it.

Running it caused my computer to shut off.

Twice.

After the second time, trying to restart my computer resulted in a loop where it would get to a certain point in the startup sequence and then go back to the beginning.

We shut down for a while, until the processor had cooled some, and then were allowed to startup in Windows and uninstall Ubuntu.

But then my Internet wouldn't connect.

Some time later, we discovered that my brother had accidentally hit the wireless switch and turned off my card. :|

WAY TO FREAK ME OUT, SALLY.

Anyway, all problems have been fixed now, but I'm thinking it's going to be a while longer before I try to learn Linux again. OR MAYBE I will just steal my brother's computer and learn it on his and let Sally stay safe just running Windows.

30 Days Of TV Meme:

Day 12 ♥ An episode you’ve watched more than 5 times

There's a lot of possible answers to that. *should probably be ashamed of her TV rewatching habit*

However, I'm going to offer up a M*A*S*H episode. Because I watched it today.

Specifically, the M*A*S*H episode "A Night At Rosie's".

This might be my favorite M*A*S*H episode. And that's saying a good bit, because I grew up on M*A*S*H, my dad owned 90% of the series on VHS tapes (I'm still trying to transition his collection into DVDs, which will take up much less space). But "A Night At Rosie's" ranks, if not first, then in the top 5.

It's the episode where Hawkeye and BJ decide, in a fit of drunkenness, to secede from the union to get out of the war. And then they get most of the camp in on it. And it's fantastic.

30 Days Of Who Meme:

Day 05 ♥ Your Favorite Companion

This is another one of those where if you're surprised by the answer you haven't been paying very close attention.

I firmly believe that sometimes, to this day, the Doctor stops and asks himself, "What Would Barbara Wright Do?"

She's kickass, tough, compassionate, handles things that would wreck most people, calls the Doctor out... She runs over Daleks with a truck. She impersonates an Aztec goddess and pulls it off through sheer attitude. She bluffs the hell out of the Dalek overlords with her leet history skillz and a mishmash of every historical reference she happens to think of. She stalks a student to a junkyard because she's worried (and madly curious!). She wears cardigans and sensible shoes.

She cares about people even when it's not the most sensible thing to do. Even when she knows better.

And quite honestly the first two seasons of the show are really "The Barbara Wright Show", with supporting characters The Mentor (The Doctor), The Love Interest (Ian), and The Student (Susan).

(Runners-up: Martha, Amy, Mickey, Romana, Peri, Liz. Listed in no particular order.)

Today, on a last-minute decision, I went up to Roanoke and interviewed for a tech position with The Lost Colony. ...I don't know how the interview went. I'm trying to think good thoughts about it. I need a job, for reals, yo.

ALSO, you know what arrived in the mail for me? Flogging Molly's new CD/DVD set, Live At The Greek Theatre. It is happy-making. YAY, MUSIC.

ALSO ALSO, there is M*A*S*H on TV.

...I am easily pleased.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (M*A*S*H - glee)
This is pretty wonderful.

M*A*S*H has always been a big part of my life. My dad was and is a big fan, and I was watching the show before I was old enough to really understand what I was watching, and I have to say it likely helped shape a lot of the ways I look at the world. "Quo Vadis, Captain Chandler?" is an episode that has always stayed with me very strongly; particularly the following exchange:
"Tell me, is it true that God answers all prayers?"
"Yes. But sometimes the answer is 'no'."

Yesterday I bought a new hat and a new scarf as part of my ongoing attempt to become the sort of person who wears hats and scarves. I would like to be the sort of person who wears hats and scarves, and every so often I buy new ones (or am gifted new ones) and start trying again.

But the sad fact is that so far I have totally failed at being that sort of person. There is an art, or possibly a knack, to wearing hats and scarves, a knack that I do not possess. I keep trying to teach myself this knack, but it has so far not worked. Maybe this time it will work? If anyone has any tips on how to become the sort of person who wears hats and scarves, feel free to share advice.

I also bought a lot of other things. Next Sunday is the end of the Busch Gardens season, so I went in early yesterday and abused my employee discount buying things. Since I barely used it this summer, except occasionally to buy myself a meal when I didn't want to go to the EBAs.

Anyway. Happy-making fandom-related things:

Pictures of the Torchwood gang at the Hub convention. THEY'RE ALL SO PRETTY, and how happy am I to see Kai so well represented in the pics? Why can't I live somewhere or have the kind of money that I could go to events like this?

New SJA to watch!! I am very excited about this. I'm liking Rani a good bit although her name throws me off and I am still missing her predecessor a lot. A lot a lot.

I now own an official [title of show] shirt and poster. Which make me almost happy enough to forget momentarily that Broadway was stupid enough not to give them a long, long run at the Lyceum.

In other [tos] news: click me!

I have been binging on M*A*S*H episodes recently. Why? Because I like to. The show was a major part of my childhood, and it remains completely awesome as I grow up. (Although I have difficulty watching the really old episodes with the relentless laugh tracks. I know when to laugh at their jokes on my own, kthnx.)

...I feel like I had more things to say, but I don't remember what they were, so here, have a bunny suicide.

I would like to apologize for all the emo I've been throwing at you guys lately. So! To make up for it, or at least to take my mind off of it, here are some Awesome Things:

- Ray Tracing Jell-O Brand Gelatin - a .pdf document containing two pages of awesomely ridiculous academia. <3

- Girl Genius - which, I dunno, some of you probably already knew about. And if so, why didn't you tell me about this comic earlier? Or if on the off chance you did, why didn't I listen??? Gaslamp fantasy! It's so completely awesome! I only started reading it today and am up to Vol. 4 and love it.

- My new icon. *points* Hee. It makes me happy, because I have a special fondness for Adam's complete inability to remember his lines, ever.

- M*A*S*H marathon on TV. *is a dork*

- Blue Season - a YouTube video in support of the WGA strike, thrown together by some LOST fans. Completely adorable and v. funny.

- Minuet - the music video for Idina Menzel's song "Minuet", on YouTube. Consists mostly of Idina and Taye goofing off in a VW van and is ridiculously cute.

ever wonder what color Chica's soul is? )

M*A*S*H is on! Margaret's bitching out Scully right now! It's so awesome. "You'll notice these leaves come in gold. Not blue for boys and pink for girls." She's so my role model. ♥

And I don't know why this amused me, in a sort of I-have-no-faith-left-in-humanity sort of way, but it did: you know those chain letters that go around YouTube? Blah-blah-blah post this comment to such-and-such many videos and this-and-that'll happen sort of thing? Y'know. Typical chain letter. Well, I've gotten a few of those on my various videos, and they make me roll my eyes because they get my hopes up that I've gotten a review and then...that, but they're not annoying enough to get particularly heat up over.

Anyway, "Bless The Broken Road" got two or three of those chain-letter comments, and then today I got an e-mail that I had a new comment on that vid. I open it up and it says
that shit about sendin more than 5 comments or sumthin dont work...i tryed it and it dont work

...honestly, I have NO FAITH left in humanity at all. None. That's why I can laugh at this.

So, here's how it works. Name a character from one of the fandoms listed below. I will produce no fewer than 100 words on why I love, hate, or am indifferent to that character.

BUT! There's a price. You must produce no fewer than 100 words on why you love another character in the same fandom. It doesn't need to be someone I'm all that familiar with, or even know at all. It just has to be love. Obvious choices are fine, and if someone else has either posted on that character or asked me to, go again and love on them anyway.

Andromeda
Animaniacs
Animorphs
Calvin and Hobbes
Chess (the musical)
Doctor Who
Dresden Files
Enderverse (both Ender's Game and its sequels and Ender's Shadow and its sequels)
Evil Dead
Farscape
Firefly
Heroes
Hitchhikers' Guide
Into the Woods
John Doe
Lost
M*A*S*H
Narnia
Newsies
Princess Bride
Psych
Rent
Roswell
Sliders
Torchwood
X-Files
Young Wizards

...if you know that there's a fandom I'm familiar with that I've forgotten to include in the list, go ahead and ask about that. I have so very many fandoms I tend to forget them.

And the two uploads I promised: Fairytale of New York (with Kirsty MacColl) and Christmas Lullaby (full length).

Because no winter is complete without Shane's music.
