Well, this post is late, but that's how I roll.

Two big pieces of Doctor Who news to discuss!

First, we have the announcement of The Year Of Martha Jones, starring Freema Agyeman and coming in December! And you better believe I rushed to preorder it. I know it's been been rumored/leaked/just shy of confirmed since January 2020 (the prepandemic times don't seem real sometimes) but that's so long ago I'd half-forgotten and didn't really think it was coming anymore. Forgive me my lack of my faith, Martha. I'm extremely excited about this. Martha battles with Clara for the spot of my favorite New Who companion, and getting more of her -- especially more of her played by Freema -- is going to be amazing. The Year That Wasn't is also a goldmine of story potential, although if Big Finish gets Freema again in the future for more Martha boxsets I hope we get post-Doctor stories as well. (Er, sans Mickey, given...things.)

Second, we have a teaser trailer, the casting announcement of Jacob Anderson as Vinder, and the news that season thirteen will be all one eight-part story.

Everything is very shiny and I am very excited! Admittedly I'm a very easy sell because I'm just desperate for new Who on my TV and as soon as I saw Jodie-as-the-Doctor on my screen I may have yelled a bit, lol. And Mandip looks fab as the seasoned companion in contrast to John as the newcomer -- who, interestingly, we barely see. But it looks VERY EXCITING albeit not very informative. What we don't have is an airdate, which is frustrating. When is 'later this year', BBC? WHEN?

The most intriguing part of that first paragraph up there, for me, is the last part. What kind of serialization are we talking about? During the panel, the team talked a lot about cliffhangers, which seems to suggest each episode will lead directly into the next. Are we looking at a Classic Who style eight-part story? No, probably not. But I don't think we're looking at Broadchurch-style serialization, either -- or a Key To Time style arc. I'm really curious what, exactly, is going on, especially since we know from set reporters that we have a couple historical episodes plus the return of some classic monsters -- the Sontarans are back and it looks like the Weeping Angels are too -- how does that fit in with this overarching story? I can't wait to find out.

I'm really optimistic for this season. I think this twist really fits both Chibnall's strengths as a writer and the restraints that Covid has forced on the production team. I can't wait to see how everything plays out.
