Oh, hey, this thing is still on.
(I miss LJ and this is entirely my own fault. I need to start posting more often. I do keep up with my flist! . . . I just don't comment. Also entirely my own fault.)
This is going to be a rambling mess of a post.
I just feel like I never have anything to post about? I'm very tired of my job but it's a very monotonous type of "very tired". And 90% of my life right now is work/recovering work. Adulthood SUCKS, man.
I did take a week off last month and go out to see family. My brother came in from the other coast as well so I got to spend time with the parents, both siblings, and my nephews. In addition to the usual family time we also spent some time in St. Louis and Memphis, which was really fun; I'd never been to either city before. I even persuaded my dad to go up in the Arch with me! (everyone else in the family said, essentially, 'hell no', although hearing about it afterwards my sister admitted she might like to do it interesting. it's a fantastic view.)
I'm determined to get back to Boston this year, too. I haven't figured out a date yet and I can't afford to take another week off work (or, more accurately, I can but I've already marked that vacation time to spend Christmas with family and that takes precedence over a me-trip to Boston) but I think I can leave work early one day + due to working 10-hour shifts I have a three day weekend every week anyway + I can come in late to work another day, and that should give me enough time for travel and actually spending a little time in the city. I will make it work. Somehow.
Otherwise, yeah, work and recovering from work and not much else.
One of the reasons I haven't been posting much is because most of what I post is Doctor Who reactions and there won't be any new TV Who to react to until next year. I've still been working on the comics (currently getting caught up on the 13th Doctor comics, which are delightful) and the books -- a Target readthrough reaction post for the Fifth Doctor's era is coming . . . soonish . . . but has gotten delayed by my determination to finish first the Complete Works of HP Lovecraft and then the Confessions of Saint Augustine of Hippo. Both are books I'm very glad to have read, both were a grind to get through. But I'm back on the Target train now and only have a few more Five serials to complete.
Otherwise my TV consumption is currently Killjoys (enjoying the new season so far, fake!married amnesiac Dutch/Johnny was weird and delightful), Elementary (we're in the homestretch and I'm not ready to let Sherlock and Joan go), Blown Away on Netflix (glassblowing competition show, really interesting), the newest season of Father Brown (cozy murder shows are such good comfort watches), and rewatches of Farscape (Jool's just joined the team! heading into the dual!Crichton arc), the second season of Derry Girls (it just hit Netflix Worldwide and if you haven't watched it WATCH IT NOW), and Star Wars Rebels (I watched it on Disney XD first go-round which meant I missed episodes and saw chunks of it out of order so this is really nice). I'm also trying to get enough time to rewatch the Amazon Prime adaptation of Good Omens because I've only seen it once straight through so far and it deserves multiple rewatches.
Also worth nothing: Netflix has announced they're adapting The Sandman with the first season being an adaptation of Preludes And Nocturnes "and a bit" and the anticipation is REAL.
As far as theatre nerdery goes, one good thing about being gainfully employed is that I can spend money on my theatre habit more than once a year -- so far this year I've seen the national tour of Anastasia (in Memphis with my parents and brother, who pretty much only go to the theater when they're with me, and who were all really enthusiastic about the show afterwards, it's was lovely) and a local production of Chess (which was fantastic and I'm looking into getting season tickets for the theater in question -- they've got some great shows coming up in their next season). (Also about this production of Chess, they (mostly) used the original London script and at the end, teh Niki (who went with me and whose previous knowledge of Chess was just knowing that it's my favorite show and nothing else) turned to me and goes, "Florence was the main character, right? So how come she doesn't get anything at the end?" Because it's not Chess with a happy ending, that's why.) I've also got season tickets to the local Broadway-tour set coming up, first show being The Band's Visit in October, and I'm excited about that. It's a good year for theatre for me!
Also Once is launching a new national tour! I have no idea if they'll be coming anywhere remotely near me but if they do I'm going.
And then in music nerdery, Declan Bennett released the second installment of his Unsolicited Material trilogy, Unsolicited Material: NY. In contrast to all previous releases, it's EDM remixes of previously-released songs, and it's a lot of fun. (Although I don't think Run Away From New York had been previously released before? Possibly it was on the Kitchen EP which is the only one of his official releases I can't find anywhere and therefore don't have.) It will probably be three years or something before he releases the last one. Meanwhile Taylor Swift is releasing her new album later this month and I'm excited about that as well; the lead single was underwhelming as is the usual for her, but YNTCD was fun and The Archer is pretty much exactly what I listen to TSwift for. Also later this month, the Walker Roaders are releasing their debut album, the Walker Roaders being James Fearnley of The Pogues, Ted Hutt of Flogging Molly, and Marc Orrell of Dropkick Murphys, and you better believe I'm thrilled about that. So. A pretty good year for music. (Also the full Hadestown OBCR finally dropped and I am addicted.)
I think that covers the basics, at least. Hopefully more soon <3
