We went out and saw Despicable Me at the cheapo illegal theater today, and omg it was adorable. ♥ I want a Minion of my very own.

Someone get on that for me, pls.

Sign that your iPod's music shuffle is kind of awesome: When it plays X-Ray Spex immediately followed by Ella Fitzgerald.

I don't know why this particular song combination made me so happy, but it totally did.

Unrelated: It is ridiculously hot here. Would anyone like to trade for some cooler weather? *hopeful*

30 Days Of TV:

Day 27 ♥ Best pilot episode

Um, LOST. It's kind of amazing. It does a lot to set up the show, throws in touches of the mythology, introduces all of the [original] major characters, and has fantastic cinematography on top of it all.

My love affair with LOST, let me show you it.

HARPER:If you really want what happened to my parents to be worth it, Brendan, then stop the revolt.
BRENDAN: I would, Seamus. For you I would. I can't. Revolution's not like a switch, you can't turn it on or off. It's like a fire; once it's lit you can't put it out no matter how much you might want to. And even if we could, if I did... it might never light again.
HARPER: All right, well, what about you, then? Just let me get you outta here.
BRENDAN: That's the thing, cousin; I'm part of the fire. I need to be.

Worrrrd.

chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Ghostwriter - seal of approval)
You know how I said that you'd be hearing more about my love of Ghostwriter this month? WELL, THIS IS IT.

And this is the reason why.

My copy arrived late yesterday and I spent six-plus hours today watching the first two discs. (Which initially set my brother complaining but by mid-disc-two he admitted to me that it was entertaining and one of the brighter parts of his day. SCORE.)

It is dorky, hopelessly nineties, incredibly PBS, and bordering on so-bad-it's-awesome, and oh God I love it.

Randomly, I found this post about what the cast of Ghostwriter is up to these days; very few of them are still involved in acting. Also, apparently Ghostwriter was Tram-Anh Tran's first and only foray into professional drama, which I did not know.

Day 18 ♥ Favorite title sequence

Tell me that's not kind of awesome.

(It's made even better by the fact that they do different versions for ~special episodes! There's the one where Boyz II Men did an a capella cover, there's the one where it's in Spanish, there's the holiday version... I tried really hard to find a clip of the extended version for you all, but no luck.)

30 Days Of Who:

Day 11 ♥ Your Favorite Season (Classic or New)

Series 1.

The original one, Team One&Babs&Ian&Susan Series 1.

In addition to setting up the basic premise of the show and establishing characters (including the Doctor, for the very first time ever!) it's also one of the most adventurous seasons of the show's entire run. It does things that have never been tried again! (Edge of Destruction!) It introduces the Daleks! (Albeit in a very different form than any of their other appearances but whatever.) It goes deep into history and far into space!

Barbara's leet history knowledge gets them both into and out of trouble! Susan shows off her telepathic skillz! Ian is surprisingly action-hero competent for a science teacher! The Doctor is by turns terrifying, creepy, badass, and the best grandfather you could ever ask for! Also it is slashy as all get out and sets up the tradition of female Who companions having major subtext with female guest stars.

Series 1 is awesome, you guys.

Day 13 ♥ Favorite childhood show

I admit it: I was a massive Ghostwriter geek. I had a pen on a necklace and a composition notebook devoted to following cases and everything. SUCH A DORK.

I had a huge crush on Alex at the time. And I'm pretty sure I didn't see the immense embarrassing dorkiness of Lenni's raps until I was older.

You'll be hearing more about my Ghostwriter addiction later this month, just so you're forewarned.

I spent today with teh Niki. Who is awesomesauce incarnate. Trufax.

...it was a good day. Exhausting. But good. <3

I missed a day with this meme, so here's two at once:

Day 20 &hearts A hobby of yours

...um.

I collect musical theatre recordings.

(That totally counts as a hobby, right? Collecting stuff?)

I have ~50 recordings of Chess. Possibly this is a warning sign of either a hoarder or an obsessive personality.

Day 21 &hearts A recipe

Triple Chocolate Brownie Cookies

Ingredients:
3/4 c. butter, cubed
4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. baking cocoa
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. semisweet chocolate chips, divided
2 tsp. shortening

Directions:
In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter and unsweetened chocolate; cool. Transfer to a large mixing bowl; add sugar and eggs. Beat until smooth.

Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually add to chocolate mixture. Stir in 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or until easy to handle. (This is important! Your dough will be more like brownie batter before you chill it--it's okay, it'll firm up in the fridge.)

Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 7-9 minutes or until edges are set and tops are slightly cracked. Cool for 2 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely.

In a microwave-safe bowl, heat shortening and remaining chocolate chips on high for 1 minute or until chips are melted; stir until smooth. Drizzle over cookies. Let stand 30 minutes or until chocolate is set. Store in an airtight container. Yield: 6 dozen.

Day 13 ♥ A fictional book

*pokes at bookshelf* Hmm.

I'm going to rec you guys "Fragile Things" by Neil Gaiman. It's a short story collection and it's fantastic. Favorites: "Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire", which is just indescribable in its awesomeness; "The Flints Of Memory Lane", which may be my favorite ghost story ever; "Fifteen Painted Cards From A Vampire Tarot", which does fabulous things to vampire mythology; and "The Day The Saucers Came", which, again, defies summation.

Srsly, go read.

Day 10 &hearts A photo of you taken over ten years ago

YEAH, I'M CHEATING AND SKIPPING IT AGAIN. I don't have any digital photos of me taken over ten years ago, and even if I had a scanner I have no idea where any photos of me taken over ten years ago are period.

Sorry, guys.

Here, have something awesome to make up for it: A set of directions for what to do if you're the first human ever to make alien contact! (Yes, I know, pretty unlikely. Probably isn't going to be you. That's a given. But it would be a good idea for us to spare a few minutes and think about it. Why? Well, for one: Most historians and scientists agree that this would be the most important moment in all of human history!!)

Read it all, it's totally worth it.

chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Young Wizards - go ahead and panic!)
So I just claimed a prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest. SO WE'LL SEE HOW THAT WORKS OUT. [/has not posted a fic in over a year now and has never written fic for this particular fandom]

Excitingly, my copy of A Wizard Of Mars arrived today and I am ridic excited about it and I have been waiting like six years for it and I can't decide whether to indulge in a fast read because I waaaaaaaant it or try to make it last me for a while. ...I am so bad with new books. Intellectually I realize that they are a pleasure that should be savored, but then I start reading and going "OMG I wanna know what happens next!!!" and wind up blowing through them far too fast.

Shallowly, it is shiny and has a fabulous cover image.

This pretty much destroys my plans of rereading the series before reading the new book, you realize.

...Hullo, my name is Chica and I have the attention span of a goldfish on cocaine.
chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Dresden Files - sleep deprived)
I don't think I realized until just now just how much is coming out in April. The new series of Doctor Who, the new Young Wizards book, the new Dresden Files book...

And I have been waiting for all of it for so long!

...okay, objectively it hasn't actually been that long since we last had new Doctor Who on our screens. And it's only been about a year since the last Dresden Files release. A year is a long time, but, still.

On the other hand, it has been basically forever since we last had new Young Wizards.

In the leadup to release, the YW site is posting wallpapers inspired by the new book using Mars Global Surveyor imagery, Jim Butcher's site is posting previews of the first four chapters, and Doctor Who spoilers continue to leak with the production team being...really closed-mouth.

In unrelated news, I just broke out my Fuselage account for the first time in years in order to read LOST spoilers. Some of them are encouraging, some of them are depressing, one of them I think [livejournal.com profile] riviyan_questa would be excited about. Just sayin'.

☆ Some generous application of zipties later, I am now able to run my EHDs without worrying endlessly about the dog pulling cables out. Yay, zipties! Almost as useful as gaffe tape.

☆ ARD:U has updated their site with three more books. *bounces* I want them to update more regularly, man, all that time spent without those guys in my life makes me sadface.

☆ Thanks to the ~magic~ of MyCokeRewards giving me stuff for drinking as much soda as I would anyway, I am now the proud owner of some fairly nice wireless headphones. I love free stuff, it's awesome.

☆ Current DW spoilers being leaked are adorable and happymaking.

☆ Yesterday I wrote about a thousand words in Better Than It Sounds, which objectively speaking isn't that much but it got me up to the band breakup, which I have been struggling to get through for, like, a couple months. It's been a major writing block and I finally got through it and that is very yay.
