Asexual_Fandom on DW is running an Ace Manifestos Project (think [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto but instead of arguing for why your pariing is Meant To Be, you're arguing for why this characters is Like, So Ace), and omg I am so tempted to sign up to ramble about my headcanon for Kevin Donnelly. Or possibly my less reasoned thoughts on Tobias from Animorphs, IDK.

(Also, some of the claims that have already been made, I AM SO EXCITE to see people make their cases about. Although I wish there were more any female characters on the list, I'm not sure I can make a good case for that since the only female character I have ace!headcanon about I only watched the first season of the show she was on. And I'm pretty sure she was sexualized in canon after I quit watching.)

First, a few pimps:

A flashmob in celebration of Lin-Manuel Miranda! Seriously, even if you know nothing about In The Heights you should watch this just because Lin's glee and surprise is so adorable.

The Asexual!Comment-Fic Meme! I have not actually posted anything here yet BUT I WILL as soon as I think of something. There's a bunch of fandoms already being represented, it could always use more!

The first two installments of ARD:U's Season 5.555555! They're reading The Decision, and it's kind of amazing. ILU, ARDU guys.

Now, meme responses:

30 Days Of TV:

Day 27 ♥ Best pilot episode

Um, LOST. It's kind of amazing. It does a lot to set up the show, throws in touches of the mythology, introduces all of the [original] major characters, and has fantastic cinematography on top of it all.

My love affair with LOST, let me show you it.

30 Days Of Who:

Day 20 ♥ The Character Who Is Most Like You

...probably Mickey Smith. Earnest, well-meaning, and in over your head; trying and sometimes screwing it all up; the one left behind.

Mickey was totally my identification character when I was first getting into Who.

Has everyone read this post? It's about the desexualizing of same-sex relationships in fandom and about asexual relationships in fandom and about asexual invisibility in slash (and wider) fandom and many related things and it is very very good and I thumbs-up it. A lot of the comments are excellent as well.

In very much related news, I have an itch to write fic about Kevin Donnelly coming to terms with his own asexuality even if he doesn't have a label for it (because I'm not sure Kevin would have a label for it).

There's a part of me that keeps saying no, I can't do that, it would be entirely too soapboxish and using someone else's character to explore my own thoughts about my own sexuality. On the other hand, that voice says pretty much the same things when I want to make an original character asexual and actually explore that in my original fic, as well. And you know what? I want asexual characters, and I want fic about asexual characters, and nobody's going to just hand that to me...the best place to start is by writing some myself, right?

To complicate matters more, actually writing that fic would probably necessitate a canon rewatch and also I'm not in a great writing space right now...aside from a couple hundred words of Better Than It Sounds every few days, I'm not really writing anything worthwhile right now. And it's up for debate if Better Than It Sounds is worthwhile anyway. ;)

...I swear tomorrow I will post things that have like squee and whatever in it.

Bah. This post popped up on my flist via [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes. The [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes post was cool. But now I'm driving myself crazy by reading the [livejournal.com profile] sf_drama post and all its comments.

That said, [livejournal.com profile] alexandraerin is endearing themselves to me muchly. ♥

Serious question for you: cui bono? Who benefits from this bit of exclusivity? As a BT who has varyingly identified as both a G and an L in my life, I'd say we get a boost from including asexuals. They are closer to mainstream, but further below the radar. Increasing awareness of them increases awareness of the spectrum of human sexuality, it inculcates in people the knowledge that variety in human sexuality is natural and normal. I can't see a downside to including them.

You say they have no business in the tent; I say, their goals and our goals are taking us in the same direction and I don't see any downside to hitching their horse to our cart. They've got less baggage? Great. We'll get further, faster together.

To the extent that gender is a binary, you could express it in binary. We have 10, 01, 00, and 11. 10 have proclaimed themselves to be King Shit of the World. 01, 00, and 11 can all play in 10's court, to the extent that they're able to pretend they're like 10. So, 01 and 11 have teamed up to say, "Enough of this, we're as good as you."

Why leave 00 out in the cold? 00 has as much a claim. 00 fits into the same grid. 00 is an ally.

Or, on a lighter note, [livejournal.com profile] beoweasel's attempt at an asexual rallying cry:

WE'RE HERE! WE'RE...NOT REALLY BOTHERING ANYONE, SO, JUST MOVE ALONG.
