As I work my way slowly backwards through my flist...

First Ten Songs playing on iTunes after hitting "shuffle":

March of the Winkies (feat. Male Ensemble) - The Wizard of Oz in Concert
Introduction - 1998 Chess Concert Cast [10/05/98]
Swing - Seth's Broadway 101 - April 14 2008
Capablanca - Chess 2005 Bergen Cast [Norway] [August 2005]
Evil Puns - Evil Dead: The Musical Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording
Pity The Child - Chess Karaoke
Finland/Fisch Schlapping Dance - Monty Python's Spamalot Original Broadway Cast
Locust - The Frames
911! Emergency! - bare: a pop opera original cast recording
When The Sun Goes Down - Kenny Chesney

On my iTunes can be found: 9131 songs, which would play for 22.4 days continuously

Most represented artist: Original Broadway Cast, with 551 songs, which would play for 1.2 days continuously. If that doesn't count since it's technically many different artists who I just group together, The Pogues, with 243 songs, 13.4 hours.

Second most represented artist: After the Pogues? and ignoring OBC-esque groupings...John Barrowman, with 126 songs, running 6.4 hours.

Top 10 most played songs:
Um. With the oh-so-recent laptop crash, all my playcounts were erased. If I remember correctly, and I did make use of my playcounts often so I might remember this correctly, the top four or five were Pogues songs -- "Turkish Song Of The Damned", "Fairytale of New York", "Rainy Night In Soho", "If I Should Fall From Grace With God", "The Boys From The County Hell", I think? And then "Acoustic Song" and "This Town Forever", both by Endway. "Defying Gravity" by Raul Esparza. "Sally Maclennane", again by the Pogues. ...and then a Dropkick Murphys song but I don't remember which one.

To everyone who responded to my last post: Hello, I love you, you're incredibly wonderful and I'm amazed by you all. *huge hugs* And I swear I did not mean to hide under the rock quite this long. But my laptop died a week ago last Monday, and I do mean 'died'. For good this time. It has been consigned to the electronics dustbin in the sky. I talked to the computer repair place I use and they said they might be able to fix it for like $400 and they remembered it and wouldn't it make more sense to just replace it?

So as of about an hour ago I have a brand new computer, which I am writing this to you from. I'm getting used to it, it's gonna take a while, but it's a huge upgrade from my antique POS, much as I loved that thing. This one's pretty and sleek and new and has like actual memory and stuff. Now I just need to build up something comparable to all the stuff I had on the old one...

Yeah, when I said the old one was dead? Completely dead. Not recovering anything off it. Everything I had on the externals I still have, so my music library and video files are safe, but everything else -- photos, documents, programs, fonts, all that -- pretty much completely gone. Um.

I have named the new laptop Sally Maclennane, Sally for short, because I am a dork like that. She also has a webcam, but I have not yet figured out how to use it. I'll figure it out, eventually.

In other, non-computer, RL news: Emerald Beat officially closed, a week ago last Monday. There were tears. There were hugs. There were pranks and general silliness. I miss my cast, I miss my crew -- I crashed a Monster Stomp rehearsal looking for a wrench yesterday, ran into one of my former spot ops, got tackled by a hug that took me off the ground and five minutes of conversation about how jealous I am of the MS lighting design and how much I wish I was working it. Yes.

But Jack Is Back is going to be...cheesetastic but not unfun.

I missed you guys! Once I get Sally here reasonably up to date I'm going to go as far back through my flist as I can, but if there's anything I really should pay attention to, anything you want to link me to, any news I should know about having been out of touch for almost two weeks, this is the place.

I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still alive, 'cause I <3 you guys hardcore.

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

[livejournal.com profile] morgeil asked me about:

speculative fiction -- or, in other words, science fiction, fantasy, alternate histories, horror, superhero fiction, and all that other awesome stuff. The kind of fiction that asks "what if?" I've always been fascinated by this, in a way I tend to sum up as "I'd like some escapism in my escapism pls" although that doesn't do the full awesomeness of the genre any justice at all.

chess -- the musical, not the game. Not that I don't like the game, I do, although I'm not very good at it. But no, I love the musical much more. It's my favorite musical, I collect it obsessively, I'm in love with all the characters and the music and the utterly cractastick nature of the seventeen million different scripts. (Sydney Chess? CRACKIEST THING EVER.)

catholicism -- I was raised Catholic, I went to a Catholic college, I still identify as Catholic even though I kind of fail at the going-to-mass thing and don't actually recall when I last went to confession. I'm very interested in the history of the Church and doctrine and the way things have changed and how spirituality and religion differ from each other.

crack pairings -- a good portion of my fannish love comes from shipping pairings that make no logical sense, the "you'd have to be on crack to see it" kind of pairings. Like Michael/Shannon (LOST). Or Ignatius/Maru (Andromeda). Or Babs/Martha/Tosh (Doctor Who). Or Kevin/cereal/sandwich/jacket (Black Donnellys). I could go on for a while but I'll shut up. I do, in point of fact, ship based on personalities and possibility as much as chemistry, so it's very easy for me to go from "these two characters have such and such in common" or "huh, you know, this canon relationship could be seen as a parallel for this other totally untouched-upon and cracky pairing" or "hi, awesome and hot characters who are not appreciated enough" or "wow, he has amazing chemistry with inanimate objects" to "OMGLOVESHIPPINGTHISNOW".

theme parks -- I work for one. Yes, it's just that simple.

nipple erectors -- notable for being Shane MacGowan's first band (and we all know how I love my Shaney Mac) as well as having the hit single "Gabrielle" and only one officially-released album. They recently had a reunion concert with Shane! I wish I'd been there. :(

bad movies -- the campier and worse the writing and special effects, the better. This specifically refers to the sci-fi/horror/Bruce Campbell end of the spectrum although I can on occasion be persuaded to particularly bad examples of other genres. Fun on both the "point and mock" level and the "I could do this better!" level. And usually full of comedy gold.

And another meme from a few different folks on my flist:

Name any character from any of my fandoms and I'll tell you...

(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon
(b) a reason he/she sucks
(c) a reason he/she is awesome
(d) five things that never happened to that character and/or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and why

...Any ideas for a good nickname? Undewar? Rustler?

In other news, Shane MacGowan disputes rumors of health problems.

He adds, "I think the reason I'm still here is because I have a strong constitution. I don't feel 50, I feel younger every day."

Most awesome-tastic thing heard in a while: The Pogues covering "Do You Believe In Magic?" *laughs*

Close second: The radio-friendly version of "Boys From The County Hell", mainly because the lyrics stop making sense when you replace all the profanity. "We got him out the back and we beat him 'til he bawled"? Really?

Ten Things I Love

1. [livejournal.com profile] nikiness...well, duh. Obviously. She's my nonsexual life partner and bestest friend ever!
2. Shane MacGowan. Specifically, Shane MacGowan's music. It just makes me happy, even when it's angry- or sad-making songs.
3. My cat, Thomas, who spent today apparently thinking that the best way to cure my vague illness was to lie on my chest with his head buried in my eye socket. Uncomfortable? Yes. Ridiculously cute and makes me love him even more? Yes.
4. New books!
5. Broadway and Off-Broadway and West End musicals. Yes, all of them. Yes, even that one.
6. Chess, which is technically a West End musical, a Broadway musical, and an Off-Broadway musical, but whatever, it deserves its own notation just for the sheer amount of glee it instills in me.
7. Fandom in general, even when it pisses me off by being stupid.
8. Being able to write. Which, I can't seem to right now, but when I can, it makes me so incredibly happy.
9. Opening night.
10. Clever writing in television/movies -- Pushing Daisies is winning on this score right now, but I can point to almost all my TV/movie fandoms for examples.

...in other news, I'm dying to see Cloverfield. J.J. Abrams + Michael Stahl-David + monster flick = Chica's idea of an awesome movie. And pretty much my entire friendslist is squeeing about it right now. So, yeah, I gotta get to a movie theatre and see this.

Happy holidays, kids! Hope everyone who celebrates Christmas had a lovely Christmas.

In addition to being Christmas, you may or may not know that it is also My Boy's 50th birthday. And they thought he'd die before ever seeing thirty-five. Tch. Stop predicting my boy's death, he's immortal, haven't you figured that out yet? So in any case, to celebrate, here's some Pogues videos -- starting with the Best Christmas Song Ever, the one that the BBC is for some unknown reason censoring this year WTF you're about twenty years too late:

A WEEK FROM TODAY I WILL BE BACK AT WORK. *flails* And then a week from tomorrow is dorm move-in, and a week from this Tuesday is the first day of classes, and WHERE DID MY SUMMER GO? I didn't get half as much done as I wanted to. :( And I'm running out of time to finish my [livejournal.com profile] tindogs_fic entry--it's about half done, admittedly, but I keep looking at it and flailing and going "Is this really anything like what they were asking for with the prompt? Can I figure out a way to write the other half? WTF was I thinking when I signed up for this?"

So I'm kind of a loser but aside from that everything's cool and I'm looking forward to going back to Boston even if the thought of going back to work and classes is making me *flail*

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag whoever to do it.

1. I am almost completely incapable of holding a coherent phone conversation. If voice mail or an answering machine is involved, remove the "almost".
2. At one point or another, I have been on very nearly every antidepressant currently known to Western science. None of them worked for me for longer than one month.
3. I will only take aspirin for a headache under two circumstances: one, if the headache has persisted longer than two days; two, if I have to be onstage soon.
4. Whenever I'm walking somewhere, I periodically burst into a jog for about three paces, and then revert to walking. I have absolutely no idea why this is.
