life's more painless for the brainless
lj_biz finally comments
The LJ/6A team even created a whole new journal for talking to the userbase,
theljstaff, so that individual members of the staff can't be held responsible. Which is cute, in a headdesk-y OMFG why do they keep learning the wrong lessons from their mistakes??!? sort of way.
theljstaff: You leave a bad taste in my mouth, and this post reads like a giant "STFU FANDOM". There are dozens of communities still running and flourishing that have been pointed out to you repeatedly -- pro-anorexia comms, self-mutilation comms, drug comms, hate comms, etc. -- that are far, far more dangerous than a couple of ambiguous art pieces., and yet you steadfastly refuse to do anything about those groups, instead unambiguously targeting fandom.
How long have I been in fandom? About a decade now, right? I'm a fairly active member of a few dozen separate fandoms. And, yeah, okay, you could say that I'm not affected because I'm not involved in the parts of fandom that deal with graphic sexuality, underage or over--I don't read, write, draw, or look at explicit sexual content in any form. Why? Because I don't enjoy it, it does nothing for me on any level, and, well, it's just not my thing. And, hell, I'm not involved in Harry Potter fandom even peripherally, and so far it seems like HP is your main target.
But this does affect me, because you're going after my home. Because even if you haven't gone after my specific fandoms, you're targeting the overall community of fandom, and beyond Lost, Doctor Who, Chess, Black Donnellys, whatever, I consider myself a member of general fandom first and foremost. And you're telling me in so many words that you don't care if I come to your site to talk about how best to starve myself, hurt myself, score illegal drugs, hurt someone else, so long as I'm not planning to talk about fictional character who may or may not be minors and who may or may not be aware of their own sexuality.
This would be what we call ridiculous, irrational, absurd, and/or insane.
