The LJ/6A team even created a whole new journal for talking to the userbase, [livejournal.com profile] theljstaff, so that individual members of the staff can't be held responsible. Which is cute, in a headdesk-y OMFG why do they keep learning the wrong lessons from their mistakes??!? sort of way.

[livejournal.com profile] theljstaff: You leave a bad taste in my mouth, and this post reads like a giant "STFU FANDOM". There are dozens of communities still running and flourishing that have been pointed out to you repeatedly -- pro-anorexia comms, self-mutilation comms, drug comms, hate comms, etc. -- that are far, far more dangerous than a couple of ambiguous art pieces., and yet you steadfastly refuse to do anything about those groups, instead unambiguously targeting fandom.

How long have I been in fandom? About a decade now, right? I'm a fairly active member of a few dozen separate fandoms. And, yeah, okay, you could say that I'm not affected because I'm not involved in the parts of fandom that deal with graphic sexuality, underage or over--I don't read, write, draw, or look at explicit sexual content in any form. Why? Because I don't enjoy it, it does nothing for me on any level, and, well, it's just not my thing. And, hell, I'm not involved in Harry Potter fandom even peripherally, and so far it seems like HP is your main target.

But this does affect me, because you're going after my home. Because even if you haven't gone after my specific fandoms, you're targeting the overall community of fandom, and beyond Lost, Doctor Who, Chess, Black Donnellys, whatever, I consider myself a member of general fandom first and foremost. And you're telling me in so many words that you don't care if I come to your site to talk about how best to starve myself, hurt myself, score illegal drugs, hurt someone else, so long as I'm not planning to talk about fictional character who may or may not be minors and who may or may not be aware of their own sexuality.

This would be what we call ridiculous, irrational, absurd, and/or insane.

Six Apart/LiveJournal speaks! Just, you know, not publicly.

And to both sides of this debacle: can I please ask you to stop using the word pedophilia to refer to adult/teenager or teenager/teenager situations? The word only refers to adults who are sexually attracted to prepubescent children. Adults who are sexually attracted to pubescent minors or post-pubescent teenagers are properly referred to as ephebophiles, and teenagers who are sexually attracted to other teenagers are called...um...normal.

Moar Strikethrough/Boldgate Links:

How utterly tacky of the staff.

LJ-SEC, for mass-exporting LiveJournal entries into other journaling sites.

[livejournal.com profile] ardath_rekha explains the problem clearly and concisely.

Okay, guys, I used LJ-SEC to mirror this journal over at GreatestJournal, as a precaution, and I'm going to try and keep them synched up. You can find me over there at chicafrom3.greatestjournal.com. I''ve also set up an account at InsaneJournal and can be found at chicafrom3.insanejournal.com and am working on getting it synched up as a mirror, and then I'm going to see if I can get [livejournal.com profile] fandomfrom3 mirrored both places.

I don't want to leave LJ. The idiocy of the 6A/LJ team aside, I've met a lot of great people here (that's you guys, BTW). I have 91 people on my friendslist and 393 communities that I watch. I feel comfortable posting here and sharing things with you and bonding over the awesomeness that is fandom, whatever that fandom may be. But Six Apart has totally lost it. If fandom migrates, I'll migrate with it, wherever that ends up being.

And a message to the 6A/LJ team: If you want people to calm down and stop overreacting? Then freaking deal with what you did. Twisting your fingers in your ears and shouting "LA LA LA" and "SAME TO YOU" and pretending like we're the problem for being upset over your arbitrary and unjust behavior isn't doing anything but making you look like a bunch of total jerks and assholes.

I'm just totally bewildered by how anyone in the 6A/LJ team can possibly think that they're making good moves. WTF, guys. W. T. F.

I just watched one of the The Librarian movies on TBS. It was cheesy and ridiculous and I'm not impressed by Noah Wyle's acting skills based on this movie alone which is terribly judgmental of me, I know, but OMG that man has great cheekbones.

What I've been journaling about )

...I don't know what at least half of those are meant to represent. And 's probably not dial-up friendly, ok?

Also, I've been reading [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz and the comments there and we all know that's not good for my mental health, so plz to be posting something totally unrelated, guys, k? Cat macros, especially cute ones, a major plus.

to get you started on the right foot... )

Update

chicafrom3: photo of the TARDIS (Default)
You may or may not have seen the link going around to [livejournal.com profile] stewardess's theory on the real reason behind the deletions. However, here's the updated version, sourced and ditching the misapprehension that the Confederate flag is the flag of the Neo-Nazi party.

It's interesting reading and disturbingly plausible. I'm not totally sure I buy it completely yet, as some of the information is over a year out of date, but it's definitely a possibility.

Yes, yes, I know, I said I was going to shut up about Strikethrough '07 now. Well, I is suck. Also I change my mind a lot which is something you've probably figured out by now.

Anyway, there is news.

I'm encouraged by the fact that they're going to look over their policy and hopefully fix it so this never happens again. I'm not thrilled that they still seem to think that listening to vigilante groups and deleting journals--rather than turning records over to, y'know, proper law enforcement--is the best course of action to "protect children".

In short: It's a step forward, but they ain't done yet.

ETA: And some fandom journals/communities are still not online...

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts has passed 30,000 members!

And now I'm going to shut up about Strikethrough 07. Because the drama's pretty much over and it's down to mostly wank. OK? Yes.

Well, so. Let's get caught up:

LJ finally puts a statement out. Unfortunately it's a half-assed apology consisting mainly of "Okay, maybe we made a mistake, but it's your fault for making us think you were pedophiles!!!1!"

Or maybe I am being unduly harsh because I have a cold and have been trying to get in to post this entry for over an hour? Your decision.

They've started undeleting communities. Randomly. Apparently some of the actual pedophilia comms are back up, while the fandom and literary groups remain down. Oh, LJ.

On a brighter note, I'd just like to say how proud I am of fandom in general. "The only time het, gen, and yaoi worked together", one of the icons going around says, and that's pretty darn accurate. Even as LJ made me question why I'm here, fandom showed me why it's the best place to be. ♥, guys.

Hopefully LJ and 6A will get their acts together now and 'net life will go on as normal.

Okay, kids guys, more links about the current drama:

If you are in fandom--any fandom--and you haven't already, go join [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts, which is trying to get a count of how many of LJ's thirteen million journals are fandom-related.

[livejournal.com profile] innocence_jihad is a community dedicated to keeping up on all the latest developments.

Similarly, fandomtossed is a GJ community tracking the drama.

[livejournal.com profile] kitsune13 is asking that we list every single piece of published fiction you can think of with ILLEGAL SEXUAL ACTIVITIES, like incest or underage sex. Something to support us when we fight this.

And finally: Why should pay attention even if you aren't in the affected fandoms.
