Well, so. Let's get caught up:

LJ finally puts a statement out. Unfortunately it's a half-assed apology consisting mainly of "Okay, maybe we made a mistake, but it's your fault for making us think you were pedophiles!!!1!"

Or maybe I am being unduly harsh because I have a cold and have been trying to get in to post this entry for over an hour? Your decision.

They've started undeleting communities. Randomly. Apparently some of the actual pedophilia comms are back up, while the fandom and literary groups remain down. Oh, LJ.

On a brighter note, I'd just like to say how proud I am of fandom in general. "The only time het, gen, and yaoi worked together", one of the icons going around says, and that's pretty darn accurate. Even as LJ made me question why I'm here, fandom showed me why it's the best place to be. ♥, guys.

Hopefully LJ and 6A will get their acts together now and 'net life will go on as normal.

Did you hear that [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants was reported by some fuckturd from Warriors For Innoncence because someone apparently caught their 12 year old reading the comm? These people are insane. I can't believe they're being allowed to hound and harrass LJ users like they are doing. People need to take a stand against them because it's really not on. Hunting down peadoes and psychos online is a job for the real police and people who are professionally trained. WFI seems to have a very scary obsession with LJ and coming after people here and it's making me so angry because they obviously have no fucking clue about what they're doing and are only causing harm to those who mean no wrong.

The whole thing is seriuosly disturbing. I'm so sad at what's been happening with FanLib and now WFI. :(

I heard! I really want to yell at people like that--parent your own kids, the Internet won't do it for you. And the only thing WFI is doing is making it harder for actual organizations to catch actual online predators. (Did you hear the news from MySpace? They turned over data on a bunch of sex offenders. Of course, because of WFI's assault on LJ, most of those offenders had already shut down their accounts, and that's what vigilantism gets you.)

It's...I have no idea what anyone involved is thinking, and that bothers me horribly. :(

Someone on [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants said that the dumb cunt who leads WFI actually more or less admitted that they only drive the real offenders deeper underground, thus making it harder for the real experts to catch them.

It's just totally mind boggling, these people. Their logic just makes no sense however you try to look at it.

Don't get me started on parenting! I could rant for ages about the idiots who complain about offensive material in TV shows and movies because it might upset little Johnny or Jennifer. Um, if you don't want them upset DON'T LET THEM WATCH IT. Why should the rest of us be parented along with your brats? For fuck's sake.

My mother was always terribly worried about the impact of greater civilization on her kids. So she monitored our TV intake, kept track of what we were doing online, and taught us how to discern right from wrong.

What the hell is wrong with people that "let's shut down everything that might possibly be a threat!" is what they default to instead of "let's teach our kids how to be good kids!"?

Well, at least something is being done, and I'm extremely proud of fandom for what's been done also. ^__^ I'm glad to be sticking around if only for that sense of community.

Doesn't it just? *loves it*

As long as they keep moving forward, I'll keep my reservations in check.

*shakes head* I've been a total observer in this. Actually, I had no idea this was going on until you started posting about it. (No comms I'm a member of where affected... and I'm already in the habit of f-locking anything that goes into slash, etc territory anyway because some of my family and old college friends are in that scary extreme-Christian conservative mindset... *sigh*)

Re: WFI. Oh joy. I love it when vocal, closeminded idiots give Christians a bad name, don't you? *rolls eyes* ("Eeeeek, the scary secular world is against us! Why, why?? Revolt!" No shit? Then maybe you should stop making all of us look like arrogant, elitist jackasses then.)

My whole flist imploded when it started. None of the fandoms I'm in were actually affected (although I hear a Heroes comm that I don't belong to was threatened? but not actually shut down), but a lot of people were worried about where it was leading. I hope it's over, I really do.

UGH. On a bunch of the manymany posts about the issue, people have been pointing the finger at the Christian community in general rather than just a handful of lunatics, and it drives me crazy. I couldn't actually tell you how many times I've commented to say "Hi, Catholic here who thinks LJ was in the wrong, kthnxbai". I hate it when the crazies make my side look bad. :(

I'm so far over it. I am satisfied with LiveJournal's response and I am satisfied with the timeframe in which it was given. Sure they could have come out and made a statement immediately, but wouldn't that have been jumping the gun? No? And isn't that the exact thing that got them in to trouble in the first place?

Livejournal does have to take care to please its members, but livejournal is under no obligation, constitutional or otherwise, to allow us do what we do, and say what we say here. This is their house.

They acted hastily and fucked up and now they've admitted it and have taken steps to remedy it. I don't see the point in being angry anymore.

I'd really, really like to be over it. But I'm sick and grouchy and holding a grudge.

Sure they could have come out and made a statement immediately, but wouldn't that have been jumping the gun?

That's the thing, though. They didn't have to make an actual statement immediately. All they had to do was let us-the-users know that they'd heard our complaints and were looking into it. Before talking to the press. That's what really hurts, they issued several comments to the press while totally ignoring the thousands of comments asking "WTF is going on?"

That and the fact that their apology doesn't actually take any responsibility. :/ That bothers me, too.

Probably I will get over my mad when I get over my cold, but in the meantime...still mad. :(
