THIS IS MY EXCITED CAPSLOCK

So our Internet was down basically all yesterday, but that is completely secondary to the fact that when my brother came home from work he brought a copy of Windows 7 with him and installed it on Sally, my beloved laptop. !!!! I forgive him every bad thing he's ever done to me.

Windows 7 is basically amazing and I am already in love.

I'm still replacing a bunch of programs, mourning the loss of a couple others, and copying files from my EHD backup back onto my internal drive. But this is a necessary part of moving on to a new step in my operating-system life. And it is an awesome new step.

Ooh. I'm still using Vista (though I've heard the transition from XP to Vista is harder than the Vista to 7 transition). I've considered the upgrade but having no money it's not an option. XP What programs did you lose?

Oh, Vista. I used Vista for like two weeks last summer on a rental laptop while Sally was ~in care~. And I learned to loathe Vista in those two weeks.

But, honestly, 7 is very similar to Vista except with all of the annoying stuff, the memory-chewing processes, and bad design features engineered out of it. It's so cool. And not annoying. In fact I think it's faster and works better than XP. And I didn't have to pay for it, which is the best part!

I lost a handful of games, a foreign-language-tutorial program, Photoshop CS5...probably some other stuff I've forgotten. I'll live.

I don't actually mind Vista all that much. It's adequate for what I use my computer for. I have no particular attachment to it, but I don't hate it.

Free stuff is always awesome. XP

My ex's uncle did something with programming or whatever and so she got a beta version of Windows 7 before it was officially released. It had a lot of bugs then and she hated it. But the point of beta versions is to figure out what needs to be fixed before it's released, so... XP From what I've heard, the bugs she had were all fixed before the full release.

Well I can't help with any of the other programs, mostly because you're not specific, but I can tell you that Photoshop CS7 is very easy to obtain online, and serial codes are easy to find as well.

CS7? Really? I didn't even know that existed. Is it amazing? Should I go hunt it down? ...I found a source for CS3 and installed it, but is CS7 a lot better? *is unsure*

I don't remember what the language program was called, which is frustrating me because I'm pretty sure it was freeware and legal and also amazing so I would like to get it back. If I could remember what it was. I may have a link to it in an email somewhere, I'm going to see if I can hunt it down.

The games were largely of the Diner Dash series, and my original source unfortunately no longer exists. :|

...in tangentially related news, I have discovered that one of my EHDs is apparently not yet compatible with Windows 7 which is incredibly frustrating because...there's a lot on there that I would like easy access to.

CS7 is amazing. You can work in 3-D. I'm still not sure how all of the fancy stuff works, but I'm playing with it (in between making quote icons, which I seem to make a lot of... way to have a super powerful program to do the same thing I did with Photoshop Elements.) It also has intuitive background filling.

Of course, I'm not sure how to animate icons yet as it seems to have changed (sometime since Elements, anyway XP). But holy crap CS7 is amazing.

Hm.. that is frustrating. Google freeware language programs or something?

Really sucks about the EHD though. Mine went smoothly from XP to Vista, though I was worried it wouldn't. And I have a lot of stuff on there.

That sounds incredible. And possibly a little overwhelming. But amazing.

Two out of three EHDs transitioned smoothly, so that's something, at least. I still have access to my music and a selection of TV!

...possibly the fact that I have three EHDs says something about my obsessive packrat nature. :|

Oh it's very overwhelming. But awesome all the same. :)

Music would be the most important thing to me to have access to right away. And you have some TV to occupy yourself as well. Not sure how you're going to get the third EHD to work, though.

I am in absolutely no position to criticise your obsessive packrat nature. XP
