I watched this on BBC America with both siblings and my dad in the room, so I'm pretty sure I missed Important Things due to having to explain basic details of the show to them. That said:

I love Wilf. I love Wilf so much.

I quite like Donna's new boy, too.

Also, yay crazy OTT Master! I don't care, I enjoy him being nuts all over the place.

I would like to say that I'm sure the plot would make Complete Sense if I hadn't missed things explaining basic details of the show to my family, but I am in fact not sure of this, and have severe feelings that part 2 will be a trainwreck of Rule Of Cool. I could be proved wrong! Rusty might have a plan in mind to actually have his cliffhanger season ending episodes make sense for once!

RTD has a bad tendency to get way caught up in Rule of Cool and What Do You Mean It's Not Epic and... he just basically throws a lot of stuff he thinks is cool at the wall, hoping some of it will stick.

It feels like this episode was bits of twenty different stories thrown together with no regard for an actual coherent narrative. :/

Agreed. I also love how the Time Lords are batshit insane, and quite obviously not good guys this time. I mean, they've never been bad guys, have they, really?

I don't know that the Time Lords have ever been outright bad guys, but it's not that often that they were outright good guys either. I'm pretty sure this is the most outright Batshit Insane Bad Guys they've been to date! And it will be awesome.
