  • I made fudge! It's currently cooling on the counter. I'm looking forward to it.

  • Today's mail brought the concert tickets! *celebrates* This Friday, the House of Blues, kids. Shane fuckin' MacGowan.

  • ...sometimes I feel bad about how much I fangirl Shane without stopping to note that, yes, I am a fan of the band as a whole, and, no, Shane-minus-the-Pogues wouldn't be quite as awesome. So take this as a note that when I fangirl Shane, fangirling the rest of the band is implied to be part of it. ...but I really am a huge fan of Shane himself.

  • On a different note, vidders on my flist, could you offer any help? I've been trying to render a vid in Windows Movie Maker (yes, yes, I know) for about three days now. Every time, the actual rendering seems to go fine -- it'll hang for a couple seconds, then continue on -- but when I play the video the image will freeze at a certain point. The audio will continue on fine, but the picture will be frozen -- and it's at a different point each time I try rendering. I have no idea what's going on. Any advice?

  • [livejournal.com profile] metafandom is covering RaceFail09. I wish I had something enlightening to say here, or a good way of summing up the whole thing, but I don't and I can't. So I'm just gonna say that there's a lot of intelligent, eloquent people saying a lot of things that a lot of people -- me included -- ought to listen to. Also, there's a lot of fail in fandom. Well, in the world in general, but I like to think fandom slants towards more intelligent, accepting people, and it's always sad when that belief is proved wrong.

  • This is another one of those "I'm sure I had other things to talk about but I don't remember what they were" bullet points. Sorry.

Sorry I have nothing helpful to add about windows move maker I can only applaud you for ever getting it to work at all. If you've been making all your vids with that I salute you.

I my self just left a visit from my mum with all her best software (my mums ace)I now have some fancy vid editing software so I should probably you know edit a vid or its all rather pointless. I've only ever made one and that was not my finest work, but I have an idea I just need the right song my music collection is not being forthcoming so far.

It sucks so much omg. :( If I had a better program I'd use it if I could figure out how but WMM is what I've got. Very sad.

I have an idea I just need the right song my music collection is not being forthcoming so far.

Isn't that the worst? I hate when that happens. *hugs* I hope you find the right song! If I can help at all let me know.

I hear you on the Shane thing, I'm a fan of Echostream, this japanese band that covers rock and ambient type music, but i'm more of a fan from the lead guitarist Tomo, whom i'm in love with him XD.

and for the WMM problem, I work with it too and don't i know the pain that it gives us users XD! Are you on Vista version or Windows reg?

Before Vista when I had it the problem was that the clip itself had an improper format, or was corrupted, or possibly that the decoder, codex wasn't compatible with the WMM processing of rendering a video, so any of those things can be a problem. Also, I found that when using certain effects, if it doesn't flow smoothly, it will stop the clip for some reason, i guess it's low quality like that. Do you have a specific effect or transition happening during the frozen frame or one coming up that may be slightly complicated? If so, taking that out and test running it by rendering it again to see if it renders completely during that time around may help pinpoint where the problem lies at.

I love my crazy Irish rock band, but...yeah. I would not be dropping all this money to go see them if not for Shane. ♥

I'm on XP -- I've thankfully not been forced to use Vista yet. I've been periodically rendering the vid so I can see what it looks like so far, and this is the first time I've had this problem, so if it's a bad clip it shouldn't be too hard to figure out where it is.

The frozen frame is a different one each time I render. Which is...y'know, bizarre. But I'll try taking out the last few clips until it renders properly again and see if I can fix it that way.

I hate this program so much. *sigh*

I wound up cutting it into three chunk and rendering each of those separately, and then rerendering with the three chunks, and that seems to have fixed it! :)

Yay! Congrats :D I use to do things like that.

Man, I always felt proud of myself for making WMM movies, simply because even if its crap compared to Sony Vegas users, I knew I actually TRIED to make a good video, whereas the other users simply just put the clips in and let the program basically do it for them. Now I know this isn't always how it is, and I know AMV must have skill to make beautiful videos and all, but they don't understand the obstacles us WMM users have to go through just to produce a video itself, and I always like to admire myself as well as the many others that go through it to continue doing something they love for the sake of showing a ship they support, a creative idea, or whatever it is that drives them to do the things they do :D

I know what you mean! It's such a hassle getting WMM to do anything, I like to think it takes an extra level of talent to produce a good video with it. (Even though I know a ton of excellent videos who do things with Sony Vegas and the like that I wouldn't be able to do even if I had the programs. Point still stands!)

This is not to say I wouldn't upgrade to a better program if it were an option. XD

Haha I understood the implicit rest-of-the-Pogues loves in with the Shane fangirling. Interestingly, however, the Pogues MINUS Shane? Not so great. Well, still good, but just not the Pogues. I probably would've liked Pogue Mahone a LOT more if they had picked a new name.

Exactly! The post-Shane Pogues are still a good band -- hell, they're a great band full of very talented people -- but they're not the Pogues. Accept no imitations.

I generally feel that way about any band that loses it's frontperson. The strongest association people have with a band is the frontperson. Doesn't mean the other members of the band aren't talented and can't be awesome without that person; it just means that people associate the band with the frontperson and so you should probably try again as a new band with a different name. Look at Guns and Roses. GnR - Axl Rose = Velvet Revolver.

On the other hand, if they had renamed themselves, would we still have gotten more-or-less the original lineup for the recent years' tours? Am I getting quantum now?

You're getting a little quantum. It's hard to say what would've happened, obviously. But everything turned out okay, so really... LOL
