FROST FAIR.

This episode felt like it had a lot of callbacks to previous episodes. Not continuity nods, exactly, just...nods. The Doctor pointing Bill at the TARDIS to get period-appropriate clothes: The Unquiet Dead. Bill wondering about the ramifications of, for example, stepping on a butterfly: The Shakespeare Code. The Doctor insisting that Bill had to decide because it's HER people, not his: Kill The Moon.

This isn't a criticism, it's just something that I found very noticeable.

I'm an absolute sucker for companions getting to dress up in period clothes, but even beyond that I loved this episode. Mostly for id-appealing reasons. (Frost fair on the Thames! Bill and the Doctor both confessing their love for the TARDIS! Street kids! Con artists! The Doctor punching the bad guy of the week because he was a jerk to Bill! "History is whitewashed"! That lovely speech about progress! SEA MONSTER IN THE THAMES.) I mean, yes, very pleased with ALL of that, thank you for writing this show specifically to appeal to me, yes.

I'm also a big fan of any episode where the solution turns out to be "let the monster go already". It's not exactly new to Doctor Who but it works for me so well, who cares? The added resolution of "and then the Doctor forged the dead bad guy's will so that the street kids inherit everything" was just the cherry on top.

"I'm 2000 years old and I've never had the time for the luxury of outrage." I just want to flail incoherently over that line because it is a perfect line. Not to invalidate Bill's anger and grief in any way because she was 100% right to react the way she did and I love her for it, just...that is a perfect line.

I'm watching Class as I write this reaction post and it's making me forget exactly what I wanted to say. Which was a lot, because I really loved this episode for a lot of different reasons, although Bill herself is key among them. I love her, you guys. I love her a lot.

At least there was suppose to be another reason for Twelve resorting to physical violence. He was making a diagnosis.:D
