Evil!Senior!Maya/Riley/Lucas give me life. That is just an excellent set of foil characters. "Yeah, he's not even with us."

You know what else is great? Including Smackle and Zay in the gang's adventures! YAY SMACKLE AND ZAY.

Also the new credits. The new credits are great and fill me with notalgia.

But, man, Corey Fogelmanis has grown up a LOT, hasn't he? He would not be cast as the dorky unattractive nerd friend today. (I feel old. I feel old a lot, watching this show. It's not the show's fault.) Farkle and Smackle's relationship is lovely, and I love that they're actually playing it up more as Farkle develops more into the cute charismatic confident dude.

And Cory's teaching style gets called out as being completely unprofessional and not teaching them much of anything! Aww. I like you, Marly. (Not to mention Smackle chewing Cory out for not preparing her for being unimportant. "YOU DIDN'T EVEN GO TO OUR SCHOOL." "But I'm here now and I catch on fast. I WANNA BE IN THE TRIANGLE.")

"I better . . . you know . . . this is when he does something." Zay ♥

The Ava/Auggie subplot is cute. I like the developments about Ava's family, although I wish Auggie got something to other than be adorable. (I am wishing for too much.) The 'growing up is hard' conversation was lovely. ("You're a good teacher, aren't you?" "Stupid Marly doesn't think so.") And I am 100% here for Maya/Ava bonding over deadbeat asshole dads.

"I've always been sure. Except for four times. It was maybe more than four times. It was definitely more than four times. It was 50,000 times."

"You sure you still want to know me?" "Always."

And then evil!senior!Riley/Maya/Lucas turn out not to actually be evil, just jaded and cynical. "What matters is us, Farkle. We don't leave."

On the negative side:

I . . . still hate the triangle. I still hate the triangle a lot. I like that Riley and Maya still love each other best no matter what, but I hate the triangle. Please resolve the triangle and then never revisit it. Or just drop it entirely, that's fine too.

I understand the desire to exaggerate the trials of high school to reflect the way the kids view them, but portraying the football team as literal giants was a step too far. There's not that big of a difference between high school freshmen and seniors, and it throws me out of the story. (And it's all about me and how I view the story. Obviously.)

I enjoyed evil!senior!Riley/Maya/Lucas turning out not to be actually evil, but spelling out the lesson for Maya and Riley was a little too on-the-nose, even for this show which is never subtle even at the best of times.

Haaaate the triangle.

I cannot say enough times how much I hate the triangle.

We'll see where it goes from here . . .
