THE RETURN OF HARPER BURGESS.
That is probably not the #1 thing the writers wanted me to take away from this episode, but I like Harper a lot and I'm glad that we're seeing more classroom scenes that aren't in Cory's history class.
Lucas's description of Charlie asking him about Riley's party ("he gave me this weird Charlie Gardner bow and walked away. I still like him.") was delightful. It made me like both Lucas and Charlie a little more. Charlie is still kind of a stalker, though. "He's like a creepy-creep-creep," indeed.
On the one hand Farkle pressuring Riley to tell everyone about her feelings for Lucas has unpleasant implications (it's not his decision how she deals with her complicated relationships!) but on the other hand it's exactly the same thing Riley did to Maya in Girl Meets Texas (also shouldn't have been Riley's decision!) so I guess she kind of asked for it.
Baby New Year!Auggie and his refusal to perform were adorable. Almost as adorable as Farkle and Smackle's matching sweaters. SO CUTE.
"I'm not your third wheel, Smackle! I just arrived at the same time!"
"Desperation doesn't look good on you, Lucas. Even though everything else does."
I'm calling it now, Lucas/Smackle is endgame. (Lucas/Smackle is probably not endgame.)
Cory/Topanga are eternal OTP. "You and me, no matter what happens. Next year? Bring it on."
I guess "is it possible to love two people at the same time?" may actually be the most important part of this episode. Because, yes. That's the problem Riley, Maya, and Lucas are having. All of them. (I'm calling it now, Riley/Maya is endgame. (Riley/Maya is probably not endgame, except inasmuch as Cory/Shawn was. BFF forever with romantic overtones.))
This show's timeline makes no sense to me (why is Riley in school (at a public school!) on, apparently, New Year's Eve?), but whatever, I can live with that.
Topanga giving Maya advice is my kryptonite. Those scenes just kill me. And then it's followed up with Riley being honest and strong and smart: "A good relationship needs more. I'm sorry." Riley, my bb. I love her so much, but especially when she's doing things that are hard for her.
"I did the right thing. I hope you can forgive me." And now everybody has to deal with everything.
Bombshells.
(Also Yogi and Darby are still my favorite ship on the show that didn't carry over from BMW. They're so weird and adorable.)
