OH MY GOD A MARCUS BELL EPISODE

It is my new favorite episode.

The subplot with Holmes trying to train Watson's self-defense instincts against her will and the truth about her employment coming out and Holmes' reaction and that utterly perfect ending scene with the two of them only made it even better.

But mostly OH MY GOD MARCUS BELL YOU ARE THE GREATEST

BEST EPISODE?

BEST EPISODE.

BEST EPISODE.

I was squeeing like continually through the whole thing, partly cause Bell, partly cause Sherlock and Joan feelings, ughhhhh so goooood.

Also I like to look at the writers' twitter, and they mentioned that they specifically tried to avoid that big conversation sounding at all romantic, and I'm just like OH GOD YOU WRITERS. ♥ Writing a male/female relationship completely devoid for romance without diminishing the emotional value of their relationship. Is this real life?

Also I still can't get over them writing Gregson and Bell as competent, non-obstructive cops, who while not letting themselves be walked over, are still very helpful to the investigation. It's almost as if you can make the lead characters still seem impressive without making everyone else incompetent!

And related to that, making Sherlock sympathetic, fallible, relatable, and making Joan competent, active, empowered and with agency, I just... Best decision. I have a love affair with this show.

And then finally Bell backstory and depth and wonderfulness (and really muscular upper body, whoa), and emotions and handling it so well and Sherlock complimenting his work and trusting him, and them trusting in each other and looking out for one another, and the writers not pitting the characters against each other just for cheap drama, I JUST CAN'T OKAY.

I may be tearing up as I'm writing this.

I also forgot to mention that ACTING IS PERFECT. PERFECT.

Especially JLM's face. His face should win an award all by itself.

I am still FLAILING WITH GLEE over how perfect everything was. Everybody was competent and hard-working, an easy excuse for cheap drama was forsaken in favor of discussing things like adults, a male/female partnership where they make each other better and yet no romantic overtones... and things like Sherlock telling Joan "go talk to other people and decide if staying with me is the best thing for you" instead of just going "I need you so you should stay"!

I JUST. IT'S SO PERFECT.

*flails more*

AND YES I NOMINATE JLM'S FACE FOR ALL THE AWARDS
