So we finally got a good quality online copy of the BBCA Doctor Who trailer. Yay! It's got a fair bit of footage we've already seen in other trailers but it also has quite a bit of new stuff.

I was right about Amy wearing a Ghostwriter pen; you can see it more clearly in this footage. You can also see that Amy isn't the only team member on the TARDIS; River has one of her own:



This is not how the TARDIS usually materializes. Just sayin'.



I have also come to the conclusion that the overarching visual themes of this season will be: eyes (as per the usual with teh Moff), breaking glass, plaid shirts, and River being badass.

I approve.

IS IT APRIL 23rd YET?

That materialisation is bothering me too, actually thought of two possible explanations.

1)

You can definitely hear the dong! that usually happens after the vorpvorpvorp. And we still heard the dong! when River landed the Tardis in The Time of Angels.

So maybe River is flying? OR it could be a case of '11 can land the Tardis without the vorp because he saw River do it and River can do it because she saw 11 do it here'!

*goes cross eyed* That's totally Moff!


2) *and this is rambly and speculative*

This weird materialisation coupled with the reappearance of the RTD era console kinda suggests someone has tried to copy the Tardis and has done it badly.

See if you think about it, if you wanted to build a Tardis, you'd try to copy the only one known to still exist as somewhere to start.

The outside is easy enough to copy just find CCTV or maybe a scan of the exterior. The inside though, that is hard, a Tardis is scan shielded.

If it was me, I'd start looking for people who'd been inside. There's currently 4 people on Earth who are intimately familiar with the Tardis and are pretty much unprotected against a serious alien threat; Martha, Mickey, Donna and Jack (who is in America btw). And they all travelled in the RTD-era Tardis. And Donna knows full well how the Tardis works (thanks metacrisis).

So maybe it's not the Tardis?

Well, there's also Sarah Jane, Jo, Barbara&Ian, Tegan, Ben&Polly, and either Ace or Dodo -- and those are just the Companions that SJA has confirmed for us are definitely still around. (And, well, there's also Liz, if she's not on the moon, but would she be really familiar with the TARDIS interior? IDK. She probably doesn't count.) But I take your point.

You know, I really don't trust a word said in SJA any more.

They dragged Katy Manning in last series, only for her to be completely overshadowed by Matt Smith being there (and don't even get me started on RTD's crap writing for 11).

Roy Castle, Jacqueline Hill and Michael Craze all passed on in the 90's... and I felt it was really wrong to suggest their characters were still alive.

I'm just glad that both SJA and especially Failwood have to respect DW canon.

no, just new!who. i tried watching some classic who with the third doctor earlier because it was streaming on netflix but couldn't get into it. i settled for spending a week reading really conclusive episode summaries. next best thing!

Actually that's a pretty good idea. Theres quite a few early episodes that dragged insanely.

Plus most of the 6th Doctor era is worth skipping.

Why do you think S3 is a trainwreck? Not saying it isn't, because it totally is, just curious as to your opinion on it.

That and it's not a capability my phone has anyway. Y'know.


As to S3, it's partly that the writers can't make up their mind whether they want the season to be about Martha, the Doctor, or Rose; partly it's that the writers don't seem very interested in Martha so her character arc is all over the place; partly it's that S3 is when RTD starts getting really interested in the whole ~lonely god~ schtick which wound up being his era's major downfall. We get it, Russel, he's emo and powerful.

And it sucks 'cause Martha is fabulous and wonderful and I love her, and she deserves so much better than to be stuck in that wandering, thoughtless, Tinkerbell-Jesus-Doctor-finale trainwreck of a season.



Also, LJ is being annoying and I am annoyed at it. *pokes* LOAD PAGES, LJ.
