The pilot episode of the US remake of Being Human has leaked, and omg, I am surprised to discover that I don't hate it. It has nowhere near the level of charm and awesomeness of the original, of course (WHEN IS SERIES THREE ANYWAY? i am going through withdrawals), but it is not actually awful. Sally is pretty much adorbs.

Although the ending ~cliffhanger was really cheap and disappointing, bah.

For serious, though, I was expecting to loathe it on principle and then I DIDN'T and now I don't know what to do with myself D:

I think I'll watch it again tomorrow and see if I view it any different in the light of day.

Eh...the cliffhanger I like only because I love me some cliffhangers...and I think had they'd had more episodes than what they do, the BBC version would have had that scene be a cliffy too...the like one and only cliffy they had in series one was amazing though...but still...they'd have done it too.

AND speaking of series three...have you seen those wicked viral videos they've released for it? The "Annie transmissions" or whatever...dude..they're awesome and creepy and heartbreaking all at the same time.

I had in fact not seen them but now I have and OMG AWESOME. *flails over them* Poor Annie! I really want them to rescue her RIGHT NOW because omg. D: Heartbreaking is in fact the right word.



Just finished rewatching the US pilot, and thoughts on second viewing:

I think all the establishing shots of "OHAI WE'RE IN BOSTON" are making me warm up to the show faster than I expected.

I really, really like Emily. I want more of her.

I wish costuming had gone a different way with Sally's costume; as it is, she's dressed so similar to Annie that it just invites comparisons and that's not something they need to do.

When they branch out further away from the BBC version I can see them coming into their own. They've got the makings of a good, solid show, but trying to stick close to the original at points where they shouldn't is hurting them. You will never be as good as the original, show, so just try to be ~yourself.

I wish I felt more strongly about Aidan, but maybe that will come in time. Josh is adorable enough to make up for it, though. And I love their friendship, it's awesome. Now they just need to be an awesome OT3 with Sally, mkay.

I'm still not sold on the cliffhanger. It felt really...obligatory. Obvious. I'm going to go back to my original description of "cheap". It feels like the writers decided they needed a end-of-pilot cliffhanger and this was all they could thing of. Does that make sense? It felt half-hearted on the writers' part. IDK IDK.

^^That last one was great...with her seeing the people from the subway car that Mitchell and Daisy had murdered...she has no idea.

^^I like her too because it always bothered me in the UK version that we never got to see George's family..only his witchy ex...and it being Josh's sister who gets trapped with him..makes it all the more intense, and maybe that's just me loving the way that Sam Huntington played it...all weepy and desperate...hopefully she won't have the same reaction that the other chick did...that would just be heartbreaking and mean we never get to see her again.

Yeah....Aidan was just...flat to me...not as conflicted in his decisions...Aidan Turner's Mitchell is just amazing in that...so maybe it'll just take time to get used to it.

You know I love Josh so there's that....I wish that Aidan and Josh were as slashable as George and Mitchell are. Lol...something else that'll take time I guess.

Eh, we'll agree to disagree...if there's ANYTHING I've learned about Syfy channel shows...nearly ALL their pilots end on cliffhangers to draw viewers in the next week. I rather enjoyed it...but that's just because, like I said before, I love cliffhangers....so obligatory or no, I enjoyed the suspense of it...I mean we all knew that scene was coming but to have it end with it...leaves me on the edge of my seat because this being a "new" version, they could realistically have him kill Emily or turn her all Nina like.

Either way, I'll give it a try. :-D

Ooh, that makes sense! It hadn't occurred to me. But yes, Josh and Aidan aren't all that much like George and Mitchell, I could see them deciding to try to play it closer with the ghost character. Hopefully they'll diverge more as they get settled in.

Definitely going to give it a try. Pls don't break my heart this time, Syfy!
