I love time travel episodes. We need more Des-time-travels episodes. Especially if they feature Dan Faraday being AWESOME. And, well, killing mice, but that's beside the point!
AND OMG PENNY I LOVE YOU PLEASE BECOME A REGULAR.
Alright, POINTS!
-"You're not worried." "I'm sorry, should I wring my hands and say a little prayer for them?"
-Dan trying to explain the time differential while Charlotte's all "STFU, Dan, we don't wanna confuse them": AWESOME.
-Military!Des is cute. And I spent a chunk of that first flashback thinking it was a lucid flashback/time travel like "Flashes Before Your Eyes" before I realized he really didn't know WTF was going on in the future.
-Des freaking out on the helicopter: weirdly cute. And Sayid trying to calm him. The Des/Sayid team is Pretty Damn Awesome. Frank is also awesome. I would watch a spinoff featuring the three of them.
-Billy charmed me a bit.
-"This is wrong. I'm not supposed to be here." ...am I wrong, or is that a callback to FBYE and Desmond telling Penny "This is wrong, we're not supposed to be together"?
-PENNY!

-NO SERIOUSLY PENNNNNNNNNNNY! *incoherent for several minutes of Penny glee*
-Dan is seriously awesome, no really. He taught at Oxford! *glees* And he has horrible flashback hair! What is it with this show and bad wigs to indicate flashbacks? And he thinks Des is playing a trick on him! This adds more credence to the idea that sometime between 1996 and the Island he either had some kind of accident that resulted in brain damage (he wasn't wearing head covering re: radiation?) or a nervous breakdown that fucked with his head. Yes?

-Widmore continues to be an ass, but the auction was kind of awesome. The Black Rock! Hanso! Charles Dickens! How many LOST references can we cram into one very brief glimpse of an auction!
-"I'm trying to make a clean break from you." *crumples* *bawls*
-"In eight years, I need to call you, and I need your number." Penny's WTF face is so awesome. "How do I know you won't call me tonight, or tomorrow?" "I promise. I won't call you for eight years. But you have to keep that number. December 24, 2004, remember that, okay? If you believe in us at all." *ded*

-She's all decorated for Christmas and adorable in her sweater and crying into her phone because Des called like he promised he would. Oh God. *dies more* "And then I talked to your friend Charlie and that's when I knew I wasn't crazy..." It wasn't just faith that's had her searching for him for three years, it was that promise of December 24, 2004. *sobs*
-She's been researching the Island! I wonder how much she knows? Probably more than we do, really.
-"Are you okay?" "Yeah. I'm perfect." LOVE.
-"If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant." *loves psychotically*

December 24, 2004! *flail* We have an actual date, not an estimation based on how much time we think has passed on the Island and the flight date! AN ACTUAL DATE. CHRISTMAS EVE FOUR YEARS AGO.
No Miles this week, woe, but no Kate/Sawyer/Jack drama either, so I'd call that balanced.
I want Desmond's flashback jacket. Flashjacket? Anyway it was awesome and I want it. I also want Penny's entire wardrobe, period.
I spent most of the episode vaguely thinking the 1996 bits were going to lead up to showing us how Des landed in military prison, but 'twas not to be.

In somewhat related news, watching the rerun of last week's episode has reminded me of my season-one desire that Kate's crime would turn out to be ecoterrorism. Clearly that didn't pan out, but wouldn't it have been awesome?
