...this makes me wish my Des/Penny "love ain't a fairytale" icon was still my default. Oh well...
The letter came addressed from John Berkeley, Oxford University.
Charles Widmore examined the envelope suspiciously, but could find nothing to criticize, and in the end relinquished it to its recipient.
Penny didn't recognize the name either, but opened it. A card fell out into her hands; a sentimental store-bought Valentine, with a typical cheesy message, the kind that schoolchildren sent to each other. But she smiled at the note scrawled in familiar handwriting on the inside of the card:
For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make.
