I can has disjointed opinions?

There were things that made me go "glee!" Like how UTTERLY THRILLED everyone seemed to be to see Mickey. And Mickey himself, of course. Mickey telling Jackie "I'm going to miss you most of all" because OMGLOVE. Jack and Mickey's BIG HUG and teasing each other and Jack flirting. Jack flirting with Sarah Jane, and saluting her, and everything. Rose's glee at Jack being alive. Rose acknowledging how awesome Martha is. The reference to how utterly freaking awesome Tosh is. Martha being brilliant and cool in a crisis and ready to commit genocide but giving the Daleks a chance first because that's what the Doctor would do. Martha in general. Martha's mum, Donna's family, Jackie and Mickey, Ianto, Luke, Mr. Smith, K9, even Gwen. Yeah, I know, they were totally gratuitous cameos and nobody actually did anything, but I love them. The hug scene (especially SJS/Jack and Martha/Rose).

And OMG MARTHA AND MICKEY IN TORCHWOOD YES PLEASE IF ONLY TOSH WERE STILL AROUND THAT WOULD BE MY DREAM SHOW.

And Donna. Oh, Donna. Donna, Donna, Donna, doctor!Donna, Donna the most important woman in the universe, I love you. You were brilliant and wonderful and I wish you could believe that about yourself.

There were small, minor things that bothered me. Like the utter lack of any Jake namedropping. *pout* Or did I miss something? Because when Mickey said he had nothing back in the alt!universe for him, I yelled at the screen "YOUR BOYFRIEND'S STILL THERE!" [/tinhat] (Speaking of, Mickey specifically pointing out that ROSE doesn't need him? Sweetheart, I love you, you should have gotten over that a LONG time ago. JAKE. JACKIE. Hey, Jack! Is there any chance we'll get some Mickey/Jack going on in Torchwood? 'Cause apparently I like shipping Mickey with people whose names start with JA. And include a K.) And with all the cameos, none of Martha's family but Francine could show up? [...no, really, /tinhat] And the fact that with all the cameos, nobody actually did anything. And totally retconning the movie with that "THERE COULD NEVER BE A HUMAN/TIME LORD HYBRID" nonsense. Not that that was a terribly good part of the movie, and I've never really believed it anyway, but dammit Paul McGann is canon and he should stay canon. Davros was a total mess; in the previous episode, he was wonderfully creepy, here he's just...shouty and OTT and ineffective.

And then there was the mind-boggling bad. Like uh, most of Rose's storyline, especially the ending. She gets the parallel universe -- again -- this time without awesomeMickeywhoistoogoodtobetreatedthatway, but with a cheap clone of Ten who is cute and otherwise has none of the real qualities that make the Doctor awesome. But he'll stay with her and grow old with her and die with her! *flail* It's like badly written fanfic. Jeez, I'm not a Rose fan, as we all know, but I wouldn't have wished such a character-destroying ending on her. You know, when they shot down the idea of a "Rose Tyler, Defender of Earth" spinoff because they didn't want to damage her character by showing what happened after Doomsday or whatnot, did it not occur to them that showing her coming back with an awesome life and her parents and a baby brother and an awesome job and awesomeMickeywhoistoogoodtobetreatedthatway but still not happy because she doesn't have the Doctor would do a lot MORE damage?

Donna's ending just makes me want to hurt people. At least with Martha and the Year That Wasn't, she remembered what happened. She remembered being awesome, she remembered being the blessed St. Martha Jones, the woman who walked the Earth, she remembered saving the world with nothing but words, even if no one else remembered. Instead, Donna gets the exact opposite: everyone else knows that she's lovely and brilliant and wonderful and the most important woman in the universe...and she doesn't remember any of it, she's back to believing the worst of herself. RTD, sometimes I wish you had the courage to ACTUALLY kill off your companions instead of saddling them with fates worse than death.

The only thing that gives me hope is that it is a deliberately open ending -- the memories are still there, the awesomeness is still there, she just needs to find her way back to them again. And even if she doesn't actually remember as such, the awesomeness and self-confidence could bleed out and affect her regardless.

And finally: the plot. Or lack thereof. Threats and plot elements were introduced only to be solved in twelve seconds. Nobody actually DID anything, just ran around and shouted a lot. It was a completely incoherent mess saved only by how fantastic most of the characters are (especially Doctor!Donna and Donna!Doctor, can I point out).

I just...*flails a bit more* It was very disjointed and my reaction to it is also very disjointed. I'll rewatch it eventually and form a more coherent response...but can I just mention again how glad I am RTD is giving up the reins?

...but today was a very silly day at work, so that helped me recover, at least.

...I need a "Donna Noble, Most Important Woman In The Universe" icon. Or maybe a Doctor!Donna icon. Or both!
