That's my theory, too, though I wonder how they're going to work that into continuity. (Moff leaves a note in the production offices somewhere that says 'in 20xx, Matt needs to grow a beard in character' and hopes that either he's still writing then or whoever is writing then pays attention to the note?) I overthink things too much. There's definitely some kind of timeskip involved, though.
