I have no idea how it will affect your paid time. If your account is set to expire in the middle of the time you'd be buying, it might request that you renew your account for whatever amount of time. Or it might not. I have no clue.

If your account is set to expire in the middle of the time you'd be buying, I'd say hold off on buying more userpics until LJ says something about it. Just because a few people have been complaining in the announcement post comments that they got screwed.
