The Tony nominations are out, and as predicted Hamilton is dominating -- with a record-breaking sixteen nods, which seems appropriate. (Five men are nominated for Featured Actor in a Musical. Three of them are from Hamilton. *swoons*)

The one I am most invested in is Leading Actor in a Musical. Dear Tony committee, if you don't give Leslie Odom Jr. an award, you are WRONG and you should FEEL BAD. (Please give this to Leslie because he deserves it.)

The other Hamilton noms are well-deserved as well, of course, though I think I personally would've put in Oak over JGroff. Because JGroff did a great job with a comedic/scene-stealing role, but Oak is doing an amazing job with two incredibly different characters that don't get enough attention. But I will live with the committee's decision. (I'm rooting for Daveed, but I won't be upset by a win for anyone in this category, Hamilcast or not.)

Outside of Hamilton, I am most pleased by Megan Hilty being nominated for Featured Actress in a Play. YAY MEGAN. I hope she wins. I am not actually qualified to say who most deserves to win, because I have experienced none of the performances of the women nominated.

I am surprised that Annaleigh Ashford was not recognized for her work in Sylvia; she got stunning reviews and practically everyone making nomination predictions put her in as a lock for Leading Actress in a Play.

I am also surprised by Audra McDonald not being recognized for her work in Shuffle Along, but maybe they figured it would be unfair. Or maybe after her life-changing performance in Lady Day it's hard for anything else to measure up. Who knows. I'm sure Audra's okay with it at this point.

I'm pleased with Deaf West Spring Awakening's nominations, even though I don't actually like Spring Awakening. Regardless of my feelings for the show itself, the production was phenomenal, and it took a bunch of risks; they deserve to be recognized for that.

Shuffle Along scored ten nominations, and I am very happy about that.

Seriously, this has been such a great season. Hamilton dominates because it's Hamilton, but there's so much great theater being produced and so many fantastic performances being given and so many incredible designs being showcased that aside from the off-chance of Leslie losing Leading Actor (which he BETTER NOT I feel strongly about this) I think I'll be happy with almost any outcome.
