"Sometimes I hate it when I'm right."
Watched the Elementary pilot tonight!
(In all honesty, I acquired the leaked version weeks ago and intended to watch it, and then never got around to it. Oops. So instead I watched the final version on CBS tonight. Late but legal!)
Anyway, I actually really enjoyed it. Lucy Liu is flawless, and Jonny Lee Miller's take on Holmes worked well for me, and the Holmes/Watson dynamic was brilliant and rang true. There's a couple things that don't entirely work for me (mostly Holmes' relationship with his family and Watson's backstory), and the cinematography is sadly very dull, but overall, it gets a thumbs up.
...So far, anyway. It's CBS, so better-than-even odds that it'll turn into a very formulaic procedural within a few episodes. Then again, the Sherlock Holmes mythos lends itself well to procedural-format, so maybe it will Overcome The Genre. Or something. IDK.
