we've boarded up all the windows and doors we could get at and there's pretty much nowhere to sit because all the furniture is in use as barricades. no guns, so we're armed with kitchen knives. and the animals, of course. caleb's barking ought to be enough to irritate them into staying away for a while, at least. the freakishly tall boy went off with his girlfriend and some friends to the beach before any of this started and none of us have heard from him since they showed up and given how unreliable the news is being we can't exactly be sure they haven't attacked the beaches too.

if i live through the night and my net connection survives intact i promise i'll check in first thing tomorrow.

i'm sorry if this post seems a little frivolous, but this is all so surreal and i think i've snapped a little bit.

i fear nothing anymore
see you all in hell

It still feels like I'm trapped in a horror movie. Not a good one, either. A B-rated slasher flick, maybe.

I'm safe for the moment, guys. They got in, but we got out, and it seems like the entire neighborhood is bunked down here at Wal-Mart, of all places. This isn't the most defensible city in the world--whose idea was it to build a city on flood land, anyway?--so in a place with two military outposts in the city itself the most defensible building is nevertheless Wal-freaking-mart.

I'm tired and stressed and way past scared.

My laptop is back at the house and quite likely in their hands by now. If they even have an interest in laptops. I'd kind of like to hope that they don't and that when this is all over I'll have it back. I'm writing to you guys from one of the store computers; Wal-Mart employees are apparently trained in apocalypses of all kinds, and it's in the procedure to stay as contactable as possible, so they're running interference to keep the nets up.

They've also stocked us up with guns for those who know how to use them, and for those of us who don't, water guns from the toys section, reloaded with soda, saltwater, and holy water.

I'm serious. Wal-Mart thinks of everything.

GUYS. If you haven't found a safe place yet, FIND ONE. I don't care if it's a military outpost, a superstore, or a bunker. I need to know you guys are safe.

i have to go. It's my turn to guard the east entrance. I'll check back in as soon as I can, promise.

If they don't kill you this'll make you stronger, but if they kill you you'll be dead,
