it's all right to say goodbye

In the end, I'm okay with the Ponds' departure because Amy got to make the active choice. It was under duress, yes, but what matters is that she had a choice -- take a risk and be trapped in the past but with Rory, or take the safe path and stay with the Doctor but without Rory -- and she decided that she'd rather risk it all for Rory. The right to choose was not taken away from her, at any point.

I still hope that Jenna-Louise's character, when she eventually departs, gets to leave both of her own volition and under happy circumstances. Martha's exit, but without the whole "You suck and make me feel bad about myself" thing hanging over it. But I'm feeling pretty zen right now.

That was exactly what I was saying to one of my friends. Usually when a companion has a tragic departure, it's not their choice.

I am kind of pathetically grateful to have a companion who can make choices and have them matter to the narrative.
