TURNER IS THE SUPERINTENDENT. Of a New York City school district. But whatever, the center of the Boy Meets World universe is Cory Matthews, it works for me. AND HE HIRED CORY. That's so great.

"But things happen for a reason, I married my nurse."
"You fell in love with her?"
"Nah, in case it ever happens again."

RILEY CALLS HIM "UNCLE JON". HE COMES OVER ALL THE TIME. One of the things that I really love about the way GMW brings back old characters is the implication that they've been continually part of the Matthews/Lawrence clan's lives. It works so much better for me than just bringing them back, suggesting that they all lost touch after college, and having the kid characters go lolwhosthat. AND TURNER SAYS HE LOVED SHAWN LIKE A SON AND STILL DOES. I was initially somewhat disappointed that he wouldn't be coming back in an episode Shawn was in, but now I think it was the right decision to make; bringing him back with Shawn would naturally lead to a desire to provide onscreen closure for the viewers, which would either undercut or preempt the whole "Uncle Jon comes over to dinner every week" think, and it would also clutter up the episode. This was better. Good decision.

Also an excellent lesson in this week's episode. "Any hero with real power doesn't need to hit a kid with a ruler to get them to learn."

I like Harper. I hope she sticks around. Mostly because I like Harper but also because I like having the kids in classes that Cory doesn't teach.

And they continue to push the "it's okay not to grow up too fast" thing they've had from the first season, which I love. And yes, please, continue to make fun of Cory's on-the-fly teaching style and background. "Was my daddy a good student?" "He was a wonderful student." "Why would you lie to my kid?" "He did the best he could." "Why would you lie to my kid?" "He was so bad that he became a teacher so he could go to school again."

This review has so far been really light on the kids. Which is unfair to the episode; while Cory dealing with Harper, Principal whatshisname, and Turner is a big part of it, Riley and Maya were too. (Farkle and Lucas less so. Zay was absent again. I would like more Zay, please, writers. You brought him on, you made him delightful, keep him around.) It was great to see Maya getting excited about learning something, and worrying about her rep being ruined by it. And Riley get so passionate about right and wrong, it's wonderful to see. Whatever she grows up to be, she's gonna be good.
