Just got back from the dentist. Yes, again. This is probably going to be a regular thing for a while. I promise not to tell you every single time it happens, though. But this time my mouth is numb, I'm probably bleeding, I can still taste anesthetic, and I'm on a soft diet with no soda for the next three days, so I'm going to whinge in my journal for a bit.

WTF do you mean no soda. :( :( :(

...my priorities may be slightly skewed.

My dentist told me no soda EVER last week. Haha. So I've had maybe three sips of soda since last Tuesday. I don't know that I can quit cold turkey. Phosphoric acid be damned.

Man, if my dentist ever told me "no soda EVER" I would laugh in his face. (Not really. I would nod nervously and then ignore him once I left his office.) I could never, ever quit soda completely. ...my caffeine addiction, let me show you it. The closest he's come to saying that is endlessly checking that I'm not drinking six Mountain Dews a day. (I don't even like Mountain Dew.)

I'm just off carbonated drinks for the next three days so the bloody hole in my mouth can heal. *sadfaces* But "no soda EVER" is much worse. I feel ya. *sympathizes*

Well before one of my tooth got chipped, I hadn't been to the dentist in.... ahem.. a WHILE... and so I am having to get more work done than I anticipated. I have a few cavities. Dentist said the cause is most definitely soda so I just shouldn't drink it.

I did a little research and it's not really just the sugar that's the problem. Sugar does cause cavities, yes. But the real problem is the phosphoric acid. Anyway, my dentist is pretty much like "teeth or soda?" Hahaha.

So... if I do drink soda at all I'm going to follow it with water and a brushing, because letting it sit on your teeth is really bad. I'm not as upset about this as I thought I would be, to be honest. I am a big water drinker as well. If all I ever drank was soda, I'd probably be more distraught about being banned from it. Though it still is terribly tempting.

Ahaha. Yeah. You sound exactly like me. The amount of time between dentist's visits may have involved several years.

But apparently my one-can-a-day habit isn't too bad, according to my dentist. I think he's more concerned by my high-carb diet, so now I'm trying to cut back on potatoes and similar.

Also I've been brushing kind of obsessively since I broke a tooth so I don't think the soda's having much of a chance to sit on my teeth. I have learned that lesson.

Carbs are bad for your teeth? Eeek! Yeah I'm totally brushing constantly. I'm like "NO! MY TEETH! MUST PROTECT THEM!"

I know! It really freaked me out when he told me that. I love my carbs. :(
