Twelve years ago on September 22, 2004, the first half of the pilot episode of LOST first aired.

It does not feel like it's been twelve years.

The BBC is animating and releasing The Power Of The Daleks and I'm so excited I can barely stand it.

Doctor Who: The Power Of The Daleks will initially be exclusively released on BBC Store, with episode one available from Saturday 5th November at 5:50pm, and the others released on consecutive days thereafter. Readers can register their interest in the download at the BBC Store.

The story will become available online more widely from the 14th November, and will also be released on DVD in the United Kingdom on the 21st November (no other regions have been announced at present).

BBC America has confirmed that Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks will be screened on the channel shortly after its U.K. Release. The animated serial premieres Saturday, November 12 and will be available the following day to stream on and on the BBC America app.

Next week: IDK, man. Based on the promo and description this could either go in a way I'll hate or a way I'll love and I don't know what's more likely. Based on the title I'm gonna hate it. Whyyy.

I have the cold from hell, which is a) unfair (IT'S JUNE), b) the reason I didn't post a reaction to Girl Meets High School Part 2 (I just went to bed on Sunday instead), and c) the reason this post is going to be short (and then I will go to bed).

Today I went to see the second national tour of Once.

cut for length and gushing )

It's almost 9PM, I attended the matinee, I'm still very emotional about this show right now, okay.

In related news I just bought the shoes featured in the new companion promo stuff. On the one hand, purchases like this are probably why I shouldn't be allowed to have money. On the other hand, I do need new sneakers and wearing the same shoes as a Doctor Who companion will be a self-confidence and mood boost at the same time.

Seriously, I love her far too much for having seen only two minutes of footage.

technically spoilers for next season of Doctor Who )

This was also a good reminder that I needed to update my DW icons.

Which kind of renders that spoiler cut pointless. Sorry.

So my copy of the Hamiltome arrived yesterday; I got it after work and promptly sat down and started reading. I read it cover-to-cover in two sittings.

First of all, the book as a physical object is gorgeous. It's substantially lighter than you'd expect a book that size to be, beautifully printed, and full of photos both black-and-white and full-color -- a mix of shots that everyone in Hamilton fandom has probably seen (though I'm always up for seeing that picture of Lin in full costume sitting at his laptop during a tech rehearsal!) and new photos (special love to all the dressing room shots).

The content is a mix of things: the full libretto (extensively annotated by Lin), a few cut songs/lyrics (the full Adams Administration takedown, the Cabinet battle over slavery), and essays about the cast, the development of the show, the influence and work of various people (the chapter before Hurricane is primarily about the lighting design and it's fantastic), Lin's writing process, and the impact of the show, with a particularly moving section on the student matinees.

Some things that particularly hit me: Lin's description of Leslie and why he's perfect for the role of Burr ("He is cool, his blood runs cool, he is elegant. It sounds like I'm reverse-describing myself as feral monster. Anyway he's my opposite."); every single description of Phillipa Soo (Pippa and her performance of Eliza means everything to me); Vanessa Nadal-Miranda's favorite line in the show is "I'm a trust fund, baby, you can trust me"; everything about the description of recording the cast album; there is quite a bit of confusion over when Lin-Manuel actually got the idea for a hip-hop musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton; in early workshops Lin sold Chernow on the idea that he had Hamilton, Laurens, Lafayette, and Mulligan meeting in 1776 out of dramatic necessity, but admits that he actually just forgot they hadn't met yet (lol).

And as for the essay immediately preceeding It's Quiet Uptown and the fact that it's the only song in the book completely unannotated . . . I needed to take a breather after that part, let's put it that way.

Another quote: "Keep it in mind the next time you go to the theater: Some gifted men and women have built a community in that room, and the immigrant is you."

Five stars out of five. I'd rank it higher if it wouldn't break the ranking system.

Good things:
- I pre-ordered the Hamiltome and it is on its way to me now! Because I'm cheap-slash-poor I got free shipping so I won't actually GET it until Saturday, but still, that's pretty great.
- Less than a month until I go see Once. I have finalized the plans for the day, including transportation and a nice dinner afterwards and it's gonna be fantastic omg.
- Slightly less than that until the Tony nominations! I am excited for all of Hamilton's nominations. Also for all the other nominations (Audra McDonald? Megan Hilty? Jenn Damiano?), but let's be honest here, it's gonna be the Hamiltonys.
- I went out this weekend and bought Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital. Also they had the original trilogy in a set right there so I bought it because as much as I love my ancient VHS tapes they're a pain in the neck to actually watch. This is the only problem with me regularly getting paid money, I feel like I can spend it freely.
- I haven't had a chance yet to watch the original trilogy on Blu-Ray, but I did have time to watch The Force Awakens. Guess what? IT'S STILL A GREAT MOVIE. ♥♥
- On a related note, the Rogue One trailer was released and it is incredibly awesome. I suspect that eventually I'll be annoyed at Disney for their freely-stated intention to beat Star Wars into the ground with a new movie every year for roughly forever but right now that sounds like the BEST PLAN EVER.
- Flogging Molly is rumored to be releasing a new album this year. And yes, they've been "rumored to be releasing a new album this year" for the past several years, but they've released a new single and are promoting it and I feel like that's a pretty good indication that the rumor has legs this time.
- Also Declan Bennett mentioned working on his next album on Twitter and man I would give a lot for a new Declan Bennett album.
- The TV adaptation of American Gods has gone into production and everything I see about it makes me MORE EXCITED. I know it's early days yet and it could turn out to be massively disappointing, but so far it seems like they get it and they're dedicated to doing a good job with the material.

Bad things:

I really, really hate my job. Like. A lot. Dread getting up in the morning, countdown to the end of the day, fantasize about dying of a heart attack so I don't have to do it anymore. That kind of hate it. It's bad.

I'm fully aware that the whole "spend the work week praying for the weekend and then spend the weekend dreading the start of the work week" culture around employment in the US (and other places! but lbr, the US) is incredibly unhealthy, and also unhealthily normalized, and I can't help it I hate my job so much.

I'm looking into getting a passport and applying for stage tech jobs on cruise ships. Apparently I've got a distant cousin who works for a cruise company, so who knows, maybe I can use that connection somehow. But I can't keep doing what I'm doing.

IDK. It just sucks.

Girl Meets World 2x30 Girl Meets Legacy )

I have to dock a point for the stupid love triangle (I really, really hate triangles) but otherwise this was a grade-A episode and I love it. Now onto season three and high school!

I'm still trying to get used to having a full keyboard. Shanne was (is) a tenkeyless, so now whenever I start typing I'm slightly too far to the right and I have to reorient myself and start over. But I'm sure I'll adjust soon.

Other than that I am deeply pleased with Jocasta. Part of this is the low expectations that comes with having struggled along with a slowly dying laptop for the past several months (I can leave her unattended for a few minutes while I go do something else and she doesn't crash! Files copy quickly! She works reliably and I'm not afraid of losing data!) but also, I'm in love with the 2TB hard drive and multitasking and how quickly everything works. I even like Windows 10 despite being so used to Windows 7 I keep trying to do tasks wrong. I'll get used to that soon, too, probably. I don't use the touchscreen very much so far but it's nice knowing it's there.

Oh, and a presumably working DVD drive, though I haven't actually used it yet.

The Star Wars features are super nifty, too. Admittedly I opened the desktop R2D2 widget once to play with it and probably won't again (it's cute! it's also kinda useless), but the photo galleries are great, I immediately watched all the trailers despite having seen them all before, it keeps making BB-8 sounds and filling me with glee, and while I have never been much of a screensaver person before, now every time I don't touch a button for a few minutes I end up getting distracted by lightsaber duels. LIGHTSABER DUELS.

Engadget's review of this laptop literally calls it "dorky" in the title.

I embrace my dorkiness wholeheartedly.

Lightsaber duel screensaver and BB-8 system notification sounds, mm.

LONGER POST COMING later this week, because I don't have time to write one up now, but in the meantime two things:

1) My new computer came today! I have named her Jocasta Nu, and she's lovely and I love her and I'm so happy. Still getting her fully set up, which is one of the reasons I don't have time to write a full post.

2) I'm also watching the Muppets season finale as I type this, and so far Rowlf has made a guest appearance for a Veterinarian's Hospital sketch and Willie Nelson has sung On The Road Again. This show has gotten so much better since the beginning of the season, and I really hope it gets picked up for a second season. ♥
