Oh my God 2016 is nearly over and it sucked and I'm terrified of what 2017 is going to bring.

2016 resolutions:

* Do PopSugar's reading challenge again, since it worked out well this year and their 2016 challenge has a bunch of interesting things on it.
Failed, but only slightly. (I was two books short! I just. Couldn't find anything for either of them that remotely interested me. Oops.) That said, according to Goodreads I read 151 books, and according to my own record-keeping (which includes rereads) I read 551 books. That's. That's a lot of books.

* 250 new-to-me TV episodes. Why mess with a resolution that works?
Didn't even have to try. 596 new-to-me episodes of TV.

* 35 new-to-me movies. I'm going to try a little harder to watch more movies, but I don't want to go too far outside of the achievable.
45! I'm surprised, actually, I thought that number was much lower but looking back of the list I managed to watch at least one new-to-me movie every month and multiple movies in most months.

* Finish a closed comics canon.
Failed.

* At least one non-exchange fic posted. I'm worried that this year's three was an outlier, so I'm giving myself some wiggle room here.
Failed.

* To start keeping track of new music that I listen to.
LMAO, failed, I don't think I even started.

My main non-media resolution is to try to focus more on the positives in my life.
Oh my God, so much fail. Well. Not so much fail in the first part of the year, actually, I think I did a pretty good job of it for a while, but then came fall and ever since November it's been pretty much wall-to-wall "everything in the world is terrible I don't want to live on this planet anymore".

I'm not making resolutions for 2017, partly because I don't feel like it and partly because I'm like 73% sure the world as we know it is going to end in 2017. (That said, I'll probably set up a reading challenge on Goodreads and watch a lot of movies, so.)

I finally saw Once in person! It was just as good as I wanted it to be. ♥ I just really love this musical, okay.

Also Hamilton won a bunch of well-deserved awards at the Tonys, including the one I was rooting for hardest, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Leslie Odom Jr. 100% deserved.

Speaking of which, Leslie Odom Jr. released two albums this year, a reworking of his self-titled debut in June and a Christmas album in November, and they're both wonderful and I highly recommend them both. I listened to them a lot. (According to last.fm I listened to his self-titled for 87 plays and his Christmas album for 67. And the original release of his self-titled 72 plays. I don't know what to say except that I really love this man's voice and song choices.)

You know what other album I highly recommend? The Hamilton Mixtape. Congratulations is flawless.

There was a new Star Wars movie and I loved it and I know some people didn't love it and they are entitled to their opinions but they're wrong, it was fantastic and I loved everyone and the ending wrecked me but was perfect anyway.

The new Doctor Who companion was annonced in April, and last week we got a trailer with her in it, and she looks fantastic, I'm very excited for her.

There was new X-Files, and who cares that it wasn't that great overall, it was new X-Files and who ever thought we would be able to say that in this day and age. Besides, Mulder And Scully Meet The Weremonster more than paid for the price of admission.

I quit the shitty job that was making me suicidal. I mean, I haven't found a less-shitty job to replace it (yet) but that's still something.

I got a new computer, paid for by my shitty job that made me suicidal. So. Pluses and minuses there.

And then there were a bunch of things that made the year suck, but you already know all of that, I don't have to recap it, maybe the species that inherits the Earth next will never realize just how much we as a species sucked and will instead just wonder why this seemingly pretty advanced civilization didn't do anything about climate change and how did they manage to wipe themselves out anyway maybe it was an asteroid or a famine or something.

Some stats are available at Goodreads (shortest book: 3 pages; longest book: 640 pages) and last.fm (average 8 scrobbles per day; 59% new artists), in the unlikely even that you're interested.
